HKU or HKUST

@fridayevening- im sure they’ll email you when they get it, student visa is important! But, you had a deadline for the student visa arriving? I dont think HKU has a deadline…i hope not! b/c i wont be sending mine til this friday!(my dads gone for the week and i forgot to have him sign something, gahhh)

@SDG1- yea, like just a simple note that says they will finance you and that youve included documents with proof of ability to finance, with a signature and maybe staple it to your bank statement or whatever you have. also make sure you include a copy of scholarship offer if they gave you any, since it cuts cost =)

@quincy-I’m sorry, i’m a little confused, are you saying that you have a dual course offer at HKU that is science and econ/finance, or did you get an offer from both departments? or just one?

Oopps…yup, no problem , TheGrand… thanks for your advice!

Sorry, I have made a mistake. The course that HKU offer is BEcon&Fin .

ok crap. i am freaking out. i sent it out on the 7th of may and i still haven’t heard from them. oh no!!

fridayevening, depending on where youre mailing from it might take awhile. when HKU sent my acceptance docs it took forever! i asked if they had sent it because it had already been like 2 weeks, they said they had and it was at least another week til it arrived. so it was like 3 weeks or more for my stuff to get here in the regular mail. maybe give it another few days?

I don’t think a late Visa application really matters. I mean seriously you got your offer already, what can they do to you? Haha… my Visa was due today but I don’t even have a bank statement right now.

@ Quincy. I am malaysian too ! Another fellow countrymen ! I will be heading to UST.
Have you confirm UST as your choice?

@ ysbera : they don’t. But I couldn’t stand my parents nagging to complete it so I am done :P

Hey Rubichino, bit late but I paid the deposits for both HKU and UST as well. Haven’t officially informed HKU that I changed my mind and won’t be going there come September, but either way, I’m throwing $20K down the drain. :stuck_out_tongue: Don’t want to imagine the number of shoes/bags/clothes/books I could’ve bought instead… grr.

Anyway, might join you guys and camp out on the beach too :stuck_out_tongue: The dorms ARE the cheapest form of accommodation available in Hong Kong. $1500 won’t even get you a tin shack in some remote ghetto area. (Maybe it will. But only just.) But couldn’t we flatshare? I think I’ll spend the first year in the dorms, see how it is, and if it’s absolutely hideous and impossible to live in, I’ll go get my own place/find a roommate.

I hear Hall 4 = party hall… And erm, 1 & 2 are more into activities while 5 & 6 are the newest (I think) and are therefore cleaner/nicer.

Ysbera: Are you getting cold feet? Don’t let the exams get you down… Will you not be going to UST any longer? :c

You really don’t need your own car in HK… especially if you’ll be living in the Central District (where HKU is). Apart from the fact that you can’t really go for “drives,” (no space, unless you live in the South side of HK, or in Sai Kung/Clear Water Bay) parking’s a complete pain and maintenance costs > cab fares.

Digressing from the topic here, but I’ve been wondering for quite some time now: what made you choose your CC usernames? E.g. fridayevening, why are you called fridayeverning? And TheGrande? Revolutionary? Ysbera? Rubichino? SDG1? Dqbonafide? Merrypips? (You get the idea.)
Obviously it’s more self-evident with Michelleger, Sam and Donutz…

@spillcanvas: … I actually have not paid HKU deposit yet. I extended the acceptance deadline though… I feel so bad that i am surely not gonna pay them even though i asked for a little more extension due this thursday… :(

To everyone, do you think there will be ‘college idleness’ among HK students? For example, students in my country get so lazy and just mess up the first or even second year of college after the bloody hell entrance exam… Yea, feeling of first relief… ANd they try to make up in their third and fourth year. Do you think it is the same for HK students? Just wondering~

^to an extent, my friends mom(from HK) said that students try so hard in high school, by the time its over theyre burned out. when they get to college she says everyone slacks once theyre accepted! but idk if this is as true now, since it seems like uni is still competitive once youre in.

Hey just done with IB exams haha so happy Freedom at last.

Hmm about HKUST, I really need to visit all my schools first, see what I get on IB and then make my final decision. I am not 100% set with HKUST but I am definitely leaning towards it right now.

Ugggh, I’m STILL not DONE with IB and this is annoying me.
Haha, I started enjoying myself already over the weekends and I still have business to finish… Zzzzz…

I’m pretty set on HKU - well provided I won’t flunk my last exams :P

@spillcanvas: Do you have any idea of what’s the typical offer for IB in UST’s GBUS? One of my friends just did an interview and is just wondering…

@TheGrand

One person in my school got an offer of 36 for it.

@dqbonafide : Wow, that’s cool! by the way , i also got another class mate who are heading to HKUST. Maybe we could meet up when we reach Hong Kong. Well, i am already confirmed going to HKUST as i already paid them my deposit…Are you studying A level ?What is your requirement of entry?

@ysbera: Thanks! I never knew requirements were different for Global Business and IBGM, I thought they would be the same, given that IBGM initially was introduced by HKU so as to ‘copy’ UST’s idea. I was talking to my other friend then she speculated that the conditional offer from UST’s GBUS would be 36 too, so I was like, are you sure kind of thing. Woah, thank god I was admitted then…

@TheGrand: AHh, I feel your pain. I haven’t finished all my exams either! Only around 8 people in my school still have exams…and the rest of them are done =/

I’m set on UST, but it really depends on the my IB scores. So far my exams weren’t terrible (except for the chem options today), so I’m hoping that I’ll get the IB grades needed and go to HK =D

@spillcanvas: thanks for the little dorm info! I wonder when we get to decide our housings…I’m currently thinking of applying for the new one that’s opening since it’ll be the newest haha but I guess I’m going to ask the current students at UST about more info =]
and as for my CC name, I’m quite a Tolkien fan hahahahaha

haha I don’t feel your pain. But if it makes you feel any better I had 4.5 hours of chemistry testing yesterday + today combined.

But yea I just bought an Xbox, gonna start playing GTA 4 yay and I just realized I have fallen behind a lot on movies because of the IB, so gonna need to catch up. (I am probably going to get bored of video games and dvd’s in about 2 weeks though haha)

Btw I have a question. Are most HK politicians graduates from HK universities?

Nah, that doesn’t make me feel any better. I’d rather get it done now than later… Regarding your question on politicians, I am guessing so, but I’m not definite on that. Why ask though?

Politics other than business is = my passion. Not that I am interested in becoming a politician in HK but I was just curious.
