HKU or HKUST

@michelleger: Yup I did, so when exactly did you send in your application? I've sent mine in around Mid Jan :( and I haven't received anything from HKU yet...

ANYONE ELSE GOT ANY CONFIRMATIONS FROM HKU?

@theGrand- I sent mine in Dec.20-ish, my school might not have gotten around to mailing it until around January 5 though. not sure. it mightve been because i emailed them so much that they got back to me...=P or maybe my choice of major?

pfffff.. i guess i'll wait for another week or two before harassing them :P

gahh...im disappointed..i just got a letter today from HKU but they said my app is under provisional consideration after telling me basic entry reqs...i think its bc my SAT essay subscore is too low, i got 7 and min. is 8...everything else was fine tho...so i have until aug to retake SAT's or take another AP Exam and get at least 3, which shouldnt be a problem...but i need a solid answer before may!! boo, i think ill email them. it says meeting basic req's finalizes admission decisions so maybe thats what they mean, that they will accept me as long as i meet those req's...=(

Uggggh o.O
Thank god I didn't send my SAT scores in :P
BUT I'M NOT GETTING ANY REPLIES/CONFIRMATIONS...

Between HKU and HKUST, which university has a better environment and facilities? Anyone?

HKUST is in clear water bay, next to the sea and facilities are quite new. HKU is in the city. If you want the most beautiful campus, then HKUST but if you would like to be near HK City center, then HKU is better.

I come to CC all the time, but I never thought to find a thread about HK universities here haha

anyways, I also applied to HKU and HKUST.
Haven't heard anything from HKU yet...
but I am getting an interview with HKUST in about few weeks.

It's quite funny though..because when they emailed me they didn't ask for a phone interview but they asked me if I was going to be in HK during march/april.

so yeah, I'm off to HK in few weeks! and plus it's during my spring break so it's pretty neat. (I'm an international student living in Shanghai btw)

I hope I do hear from HKU soon though..I've sent all my apps during the first two weeks of December and I only heard from HKUST in february =/

Are you sure you are not looking at transfers admissions?
You might want to mail/cal them to clarify things up.

@merrypips- congrats on the interview! what major did you apply for? they might be a little lax with your apps since it seems like most schools in China can send out acceptances as late as august. system is quite different in US, decisions to attend school must be declared by May 1st.

I guess I wasn't really clear enough haha
I go to an international school in shanghai (I'm not Chinese) so I'll be graduating in May.

Oh and I applied for BBA. apparently they want an interview to see if I'm fit for the program..whatever that means. hopefully it's nothing bad lol

ooo, cool! i think an interview is a good thing, means they like what they saw so far, right? =) ive read some weird things about hku interviews tho, dont know if they are true, like for one there were 3 men, one was nonchalant, one was somewhat negative, and the other was very negative always shaking his head and seeming displeased. mine was pretty standard i think, just basic questions about me and interest in school, yada yada yada.

Merrypips, I applied for BBA for HKUST too and they just sent me an e-mail yesterday for a telephone interview. But yours is special I think, they ask you to go to HK for a direct interview. Good luck for the interview.

@michelleger: I hope so !! crosses fingers but that's pretty cool about HKU..I hope HKUST isn't like that though..lol I'll be so freaked out.

@Donutz: Good luck with your interview!! Is HKUST your first choice? It's my first choice, so I'm hoping that the interview goes well =) haha I just realized that people here can be my future classmates =P that's pretty cool.

Congratulations guys...

I still haven't gotten anything haha... but yea the deadline March 31st is coming soon.

can I just ask what qualifications and what courses did you guys apply with to?

I did 1st choice dual degree 2nd choice Global Business (I tried to change last week to engineering but it was too late) and 3rd choice Chemical Engineering.

I applied with IB and SAT scores that exceeded the minimum by quite a lot. I am wondering why is it taking them so long to respond?

mm, i havent gotten any response from UST yet either, sent in my app early january. youre talking about UST right?

yea HKUST .

Can any of you guys who had a bba phone interview please tell me what sort of questions that they ask you?

@merrypips: HKUST can be considered my first choice because I was stupid enough to apply for MBBS in HKU and I don't think there is any hope for me to get in. Perhaps we can share our experiences here after the interview so that future interviewees can benefit from it. Thanks and goodluck to you too.

@ysbera: It is strange that HKUST invited me for a interview so soon because I just submitted my application a fortnight ago. I didn't expect it to reply me until April or May because I am not applying for the early consideration. BBA is my first choice, BBA (Professional Accounting) is my second choice and BBA (Global Business) is my third choice. I used my forecast STPM (a public exam in Malaysia equivalent to GCE A-Levels and HKALE in Hong Kong) results for the application. Don't worry because I think sooner or later they will definitely respond to you. Goodluck.

thanks you too,

I just received a request for a phone interview for the Dual Degree program. Quite excited and nervous haha...
