@SDG1: Yea… relax… no offense, but you sounded really provoked…

niksy: I know and what you said makes sense. But my cousin got into mech eng without interviews, then when she changed it to elec she was told she’d have to give an interview. So you should be prepared.

Does anyone know where I can see some pics of the triple rooms in the dorms? Are you all going for double or triple rooms?

SDG1- im glad someone rebutted for HKU =) jason’s post had a bite to it, word choice and way he said things were asking to provoke ppl =/ but of course, being the HKU-ers we have some bias, and him too since im guessing he is from UST. ahh, i dont like this rivalry, i feel like people will get superiority/inferiority complexes about their schools…after all both are representing HK right? and both are top-notch =)

@Shabab: Where r u from?
Well it depends on the candidate whether they require interview or not .
HKUSt has diff. procedures for diff country.
Like for students in us they need sat scores but from india they see how u score in std 12and merit certificates ,academics . As i told u, i got excellent grades/marks.
When did ur cousin apply .Did she get a scholarship?

Yeah, I am slightly offended because Jason did not provide any evidence to support his agruments. For example, he is saying that UST b-school is renowned but that has nth to do w/ undergrad study.

Wait now I am offended. If HKUST B-school is renowned, that would mean it’s professors are good. And btw undergraduates are taught by the same professors…

Lol sry about that, but with the stats that he provides, it only shows that mba/emba is good. So I don’t know how he jumps to the conclusion that bba is equally good.
Undergrad and grad school are totally diff. For example, UVA Mcintire is no.1 for undergrad, but for grad school… not quite…

i think we all should be glad and grateful that we are accepted into hku or hkust. this so called ‘rivalry’ is uncalled for. both universities, as shown in the recent asia rankings are among the top 4 in the region. whether who is better than the other is just one’s opinion because i believe each university has its advantage over the other. there is no point in arguing which is better when both are top-notch universities.

Can sumone tell me bout hkust placements of comp BEng.
Whats the highest and average salaries and do companies like apple, microsoft ,ibm ,intel go there.
What if one does UGrad +MBA from hkust then wat will be the salaries like. After mba can we get a high post in these companies.
Thanks

Till now watever ranking i have seen hkust is above hku except one or two.
Is HKUST degree recognized in the US

Okay I am not a big fan of ranking… but um… Are you saying that hkust is above hku overall on those ranking, or only specific fields? If you’re talking about specific field, I’ll buy that. If in general, not really… I can show you at least 3 rankings showing HKU above HKUST

pls reply to my previous posts,
hkust is offcourse better than hku in BEng thats what i know
and ranking also support that

ok i agree, for engineering yes…

pls reply to my previous posts

well i am not one of the ust ppl, so i can’t really answer your questions.

Is HKUST degree recognized in the US
will top it companies recruit me in the us or any other country if i have beng. fom hkust,
Is it a prestigious degree.
Will i be given prefernce if i wanna do MBA from HKUSt after BEng.
Can sumone tell me bout hkust placements of comp BEng.

but u must be knowing bout hku then,is its degree recognized and considered prestigious in the rest of the world

what i meant by HKU is dying quickly is this… HKUST is the future MIT/Cal Tech of Asia, HKU will remain a solid school in law/medicine, thats it. Science is the future of the world not humanities…

hku might attract better quality students from HK… but hello, hkust attracts much better quality applicants from mainland and us/europe. its a good thing that classes are crowded with students from all over, unless you are anti-social and want to study by yourself and not open up to other cultures/countries.

In general, I think that getting a US degree will be better if you plan to work in US. I am not sure, but I don’t think they will prefer you more just b/c you graduate from BEng. I mean, if UST is biased, then UST’s MBA will not be as prestigious as it is right now.

Can you prove that hkust attract “much better quality” applicants from mainland and us/europe? I said more top hk students go to hk because HKU students have a higher AL/HKCEE grades than UST’s
