^ Warwick and LSE aren’t that hard to get in. I got into both. Certain course like Medicine in HKU requires 42 points from the IB Diploma which is way higher than LSE’s highest requirement in a course which is 38.

The obsession with United Kingdom continues :P

@ust-ers hey guys, anyone know when is the student package arriving? or has anyone receive it already? the university says it’s this month, but we are already in the middle of the month so i am pretty concern about it.

phoebs,
Warwick is fairly easy to get in.

@ fridayevening: I am waiting for the student package to arrive too. It is already quite late isn’t it.

@donutz: yes exactly. when they say which month, it’s usually early in the month, which was the case for the acceptance letter and student visa. plus, i need several details to make certain arrangements.

@ fridayevening: And how about the application of halls? I feel very insecure without being guaranteed a place to live. HKU mention about this very much earlier, together with the offer letter.

so what do you guys reckon? if i wanna work in hk in the future, hku might be a better choice, but i seriously wanna go abroad and see the world. im pretty sure the job prospect when i come back from warwick/LSE would just be the same if i come out from hku.

back to the question, do you think i should go to hku JUST to save a year? or should i struggle my way through IB and go to england?

I’m worried about the student package as well. Has someone mailed them about it?

Nope, nothing even on the grapevine about matriculation package from HKUST. People, let us update on this here, shall we?

pls help me people ,
i had been accepted at hkust in mech eng.
I have requested them to change my program to Comp.
I had not been given any scholarship offer with mech.
And the scholarship department says that as I have requested to change my program they are reviewing it.PLs tell me if they refuse me again for scholarship,
Shud i straight away tell them that I cannot come if u cant offer me scholarship.
Has this happened to anybody and then that person was offered scholarship.Pls help me.
2 years back ,a person wid same grades from my country got full scholarship.
Thanks

I didnt get any packages from HKUST either. sighs

I’m getting a phone interview from Singapore Management University soon…I forgot about that school since I thought I wouldn’t even pass for the phone interviews but I’m getting one… Ahhhh, now my parents are saying that SMU might be a better choice… =/ I guess I’ll just have to see if I even get in first but it sure is a dilemma…

@merrypips: SMU is a good school. it’s actually my dream school if i could get into their business program. from recent local articles, smu graduates’ salary are higher compared to the graduates of nus and ntu. but i thought you were already accepted into hkust and paid the confirmation deposit? and u got into bba right? it kind of suck if we hkust-ers lost a schoolmate. hahaha.

@niksy : 2 years ago. 2As 2Bs for GCE can gain full scholarship + living expenses.
But today is 2 years after , so unless you have at least 3As for GCE ,
it is hard to get a full scholarship. Maybe scholarship was not offered to you yet
because you have not submitted your final grades? I thought you had excellent
results? Based on academic merit you are suppose to be offered something i am
guessing.
@merrypips : SMU is a tough nut to crack. Friends with 4As in GCE was unable to enter last year.
Darn competitive if you ask me.

@dqbonafide
i am from india.
for indian students they have diff criteria, they see the marks u get in std 12.
I got 95 each in PCM out of 100,
which is quite good.
I alsohave various certificated of olympiads and merit.
A person havin same marks got full scholarship .

Yeah, I was set on going to HKUST but then SMU just decided to call me and tell me that I’m getting an interview. But yeah, I hear it’s super competitive…that’s why I thought I wouldn’t be shortlisted since my scores aren’t exactly up to that Singaporean level (if you know what I mean =P) Anyways, I’ll still have to see IF I even get accepted, but I think I’ll stick with HKUST even though SMU has really long holidays haha

SMU is really not as hard as you think. One of the deans came to my school to advertised and he told me I was almost guaranteed in based on my predicted academic results. And I was going for Double degree - Law and Business Management.

@merrypips : SMU is pretty new. Thats a point to be considered

@thegrand : I think it depends on the year you applied. But I am guessing your
IB scores are excellent anyway. IB scores are more highly rated i presume.

@niksy : That seems pretty good to me to land scholarship.
When I did the interview , they did ask me about how much can I afford.
I guess they took it into consideration when they offered me scholarship.

Open for debate : I understand there is a certain worry among international students like us about the usage
of English in HK. As international students I think we can at least to the minimum , be
able to communicate and interact in English. There are alot of comments about hk universities
inability to instill quality English in some of its teaching process.
I feel the knowledge is there , the university is situated i in a place where
locally everyone speaks cantonese , hence it is understandable if problems like that crops up.
As long as you put your heart into where you are going , you can adapt , learn about the place ,
it is going to be one fun of an experience ! So what if their English is not comparable to UK/USA?
So it is your job as English speakers to spread the language !

@dqbonafide:
thanks for ur reply.
n I even got 93% in 10th std.
man having so many certificates +good grades (90+%) since i started skool, amongst top 5 in my class.
The problem is dey never asked me about how much i can afford.
They accepted widout n interview, now dey r sayin dey r reviewing it as i have requested dem to change my engineering to comp.
Shud i send dem my report cards of 9 and 10 (coz it has all AAA and 90ies.)
well i think the reason can also be that i sent the supporting documents late.
I dunno wer i lack,gotta ask dem
n also will der be a lang problem, as eng is my 2nd language.
I think all of the professors wont be chinese.
wat r u doin bba or beng

niksy, I would really appreciate if you type in proper English - it will help readers who want to help you very much.
