I chose Intro to Political Philosophy, Public Speaking: Persuasion and History: The American Civil War (one intro course and two more advanced courses all in fields I'm interested in, I was dissapointed that I couldn't choose a Russian class).

For activities I chose Athletics-Soccer, Drama and Debate Team. I think they use these to match you with your host, it would be cool to be hosted by a soccer-playing debating actor.

Dima and Willywonka, do you see much urgency in calling W&L now to arrange which classes to sit in on (and starting to make flight arrangements, etc.)? I'm still sort of on the fence here but leaning toward going.

Emilia, you arrange the classes you sit in on when you register. So, if you're registering online, that's where you take care of it. Flight arrangements took me 4 minutes and some seconds (according to my cell phone), so you can wait until the last day if you choose to.

Cangel, thanks for the kind words, but I'm afraid the decision won't be that easy! It's true that I did find out how much I like Dartmouth after I found out how much I like W&L, but my mind is far from made up. My parents are determined to not let money be a factor in my decision, and the only expenses I'll incur at Dartmouth are the summerly contribution, daily charges and whatever loans are included in the package. That will still end up being more than the potential $0 at W&L, but like I said, I'm just not sure how it's going to turn still.

Even though my parents say that money shouldn't be a factor, it really is for me. I applied EDII to W&L and think I'll get in, in which case I'll be bound to attend. However, I have an extremely good shot at getting at least $10,000 from Rhodes (They give TONS of scholarship money to lots of people), which would make the cost of attending there about $14,000 cheaper than W&L. Hower, W&L is definitely a better school and I would not feel bad about paying that much more money.

In your case, Willlywonka, if I got any money from W&L I would definitely attend. Dartmouth is obviously an amazing school, but so is W&L, and if you can graduate with no debt over your shoulders, it will be extremely beneficial to you and your family. Besides, you'll get an education as good as, and in some cases, better than you would at Dartmouth. I started to regret not applying to Dartmouth, but then realized even if I get no scholarship money from W&L that it will still be about $7,000 cheaper than Dartmouth. That is honestly enough of a difference for me to not think twice about applying to Dartmouth.

Just an idea for slipstream and all those who haven't received any word yet: would it work if you go to the Honors Scholarship website and try to log in with your last name and SS number? Because I'm sure all finalist information was plugged into the W&L system as the letters were being sent out...

Check your private messages, slipstream - I sent the URL to you there ;). This may be an unnecessary course of action but I well recall the days when CC strongly discouraged the posting of links in messages.

For classes I'm trying to decide between the following:
Biology 301: Statistics for Biology and Medicine (want this one for sure)
Biology 215: Biochemistry of the Cell
Computer Science 315: Artificial Intelligence
Economics 102: Principles of Macroeconomics
Physics 112: General Physics II
Spanish 215: Intro al Analisis Literario

For activities I am going to do:
Academic Team/Quiz Bowl
Student Government
Can't decide third one. What is Language Honor Society?

I imagine Language Honor Society is like the Spanish Natinal Honor Society in high schools. A group for people who really like a language, are competent in using it, and want to do activities/service activities/have fun in a way that involves the language and those who also are interested in it.

Totally! Maybe we can all hang out or eat or something. There's one or two other finalists on the Live Journal W&L community as well.

The picture they want emailed to the school is just for identification purposes, right? I didn't know what to do, so I just went outside, sat the camera on the steps and set the timer, walked out far enough into the snow so that I would be in frame and let it happen.

Just wanted to say congrats to those who have recently found out...I've been asked to host an Honor Scholar so--who knows?--it might turn out being someone from this board. ;) At any rate we're excited for your arrival in March!

I got my letter the same day as ya'll and it happened to correspond to when I was outside shovelling 6 inches of snow. I wonder why I want to go to college in the south? For activities I picked Honor Council, Track and Cross Country, and Cultural group. For classes I picked Small Business management, Intro to political philosophy, and the Poverty program. I live in Pennsylvania and they didn't seem to mind that I wanted to fly. See everyone there on the 1st.

Trust me, day-to-day it's not much warmer here than up north...especially on the nights it's windy and we get the lovely 15-below wind chills that last well into the following morning. We don't get as much snow, though. They were predicting up to 10 inches for the storm we got last night, and I believe we got about 1. ;) And the people that work here FREAK OUT when it snows; they were out with a mini snow plow on the sidewalks here at 6 AM, and promptly at 7:20 AM, proceeded to send a troupe of four people out to scrape at the ice that was left behind with shovels. At the moment there's some kind of machinery around. :P

Haha, but anyway...what can I say? 'tis my new home. :D
