@NotVeryHappy2015 yeah. i think the rigour of davis and UC’s changed this year. someone with a 2200 also got wait listed. in 10 years, i reckon merced will be the new berkley and 15 new UC’s will be created to accommodate the space. Also, the USD wont be the reserve currency anymore due to our skewed up economy and leftist political ideals.

I’m sorry for your disappointment today. It’s truly a numbers game and very difficult this year.
FWIW, my kid had a 35 ACT and around a 3.9 uw/ 4.0 uc gpa with a bunch of APs and got in at UCSD but wait listed at both Davis and Cal Poly SLO.
Guys, don’t worry about the wait list and how that means rejection to UCLA and UCB. I am waitlisted for Davis and accepted to Caltech.

@albert69 Yeah, it is really crazy, but it is true.
This obviously shows how admissions don’t rely a lot on GPA or test scores; unless they didn’t already fill in those “academically strong spots”.

@ItsHydro but there are people with 1600’s getting in this year. Scores have to play SOME role.
My friend got in with a 4.0 UC GPA, <1500 SAT scores, 23 ACT score, and not many ECs, if any at all. She got rejected from UCSD and UCLA.
The reason is pretty clear to me. I was accepted to UCSD but waitlisted to Davis. Why? I applied as Cognitive Science at UCSD but as Computer Science at Davis. If you apply in the engineering school for any UC the bar gets raised much much higher. I wasn’t suprised even though my stats are higher than most applicants that I got waitlisted for Davis because I applied for the most competitive major. The UC’s have become a crap shoot really. Same stats kids with similar extracurricular prowess can have wildly different results. There were a lot of shockers last year in our circle. You expect to see some top notch students rejected from UCLA or Berkeley but when they are getting multiple rejections from Irvine, UCSD, UCSB…and NOT just in engineering/computer science majors… it’s disheartening. I suppose it’s due to the record amount of applicants.
They are waitlisting a large amount of kids this year they do hope to have the budget to enroll… hopefully that will be the case for you.
the UCs are always going to accept those with really high GPAs, even if they have lowish test scores…that’s because the UC system wants to make sure that those from weaker schools have a chance.

Not sure how that happened? I applied for Mechanical Engineering and got accepted yesterday with a 28 ACT (equivalent to a 1850 SAT).

Case is kind of crappy that way. They seem to waitlist overqualified students. Maybe because they expect those students are using them as a safety.
