How Far Away Is Your College From Home?

over 500 miles

Around 900 miles away from home. Any closer and eww. Yes, it was hard for the first month, but it also depends on the type of person that you are. Plus, the opportunity was present to live elsewhere. Why would I turn that down? I'm way too young and there is too much of the world for me to see.

350 miles and about 6 hours

randomgranduer - could you elaborate more? Specifically the "what type of person you are" part?

I live in California and am interested in some colleges really far away (Notre Dame, George Washington) but would be scared of going since they are so far away. I'm only a rising junior, so there is no hurry, but nonetheless, it is still something that has been on my mind...

about 250 miles.. takes about 5 hours to drive because we have to go through NYC, about 5.5 on amtrack, and only an hour flight but then hour commutes to both airports.
Central Jersey --> Boston. im going to miss the beach

nearly 1,000 miles, and kind of thrilled about it

45 minutes away here.

Does anyone else measure distance in time and not in miles? I have no clue how many miles there are to anything really, just how long it takes.

That's how I am, erhswimming. I just measure how long it takes; I don't like miles.

I use time too. it's really easier that way.
I'm going about two hours away.

1000 miles away

If you can easily adapt to new environments, then go for it. I grew up a military brat when I was a little kid, so adapting to new places is exciting for me. If you're an introvert and close-minded then hey, you may hate the change.

If being in a new place, meeting new people and trying new things excites you, you may want to give it some serious thought.

Plus, there's nothing to be afraid about, because there will be other students going through the same jitters that you are. When you look back, that experience, the adapting, it'll only make for a better person. So, if the opportunity is present, go for it. Get familiar with the unfamiliar and live it up.

mine is about 700 miles, but only a two hour plane ride

3.5 hours. Just far enough away not to get the parents knocking at my door but close enough to visit when I feel inclined to do so.

1800 miles.

2100 miles

Thanks randomgrandeur :)

9443 miles
Singapore to Providence

~3,000 miles.

3000 mi, possibly the most exciting and scariest thing ever.

...About 15-20 minutes without much traffic

I absolutely hated the idea of being this close to home (and in-state), but it was the most affordable option so I went with it, and I must say, being close has some perks. If I need to be home for some sort of family get-together, I can easily get home. Also, if I need anything I can pick it up or have it dropped off without it being too much of a hassle. ...And I don't do my own laundry. Despite being more than willing to do it, my parents insist of picking it up and doing it at home.
