How far is everyone on their essays?

^^I’ll help you! I need something to distract myself from midterms, school, EC’s, etc etc. argggh.

cc honor code.

Do you all know exactly by what date teachers have to send in recs to SSAT so they are sent out to all the schools?

You should estimate the time it would take for it to get there eg. from california to boston on standard mail maybe 10 days?

Oh okay, thanks. Do any of you know how to indent or underline a book title on the essay portion of gateway to prep schools app? I’ve been writing the essay in Microsoft and it indents and I underline book titles, but when I copy it into gateway it undoes it.

Last time I checked, andovers interviews were full

Choate’s 600 character limit (INCLUDING SPACES) is annoying. I can barely fit a paragraph in…

Commenting on some previous replies, I heard somewhere that the essays weren’t supposed to be treated as “formal writing.” I’m definitely using contractions and I’m even putting in a few sentence fragments in mine for effect. It just matches my voice.

@helloel: I would say use quotation marks, but that’s not grammatically correct…so idk.

Yeah I feel like my essay seems to formal for the subject matter, but I don’t want to take any chances. The online app is so annoying with word limit and text format! There’s no way to be grammatically correct if you can’t indent paragraphs so that makes me think that using contractions might be acceptable, also because of the word limit. I don’t know I just don’t want to take any risks!

i know this is an iffy question, but I have an ssat tutor and she read my essays and suggested some changes. They’re all grammar errors so its not content and i still feel that it’s my voice. It it dishonest to make these changes? Im really paranoid about my essays being too good and them thinking i didn’t write it.

its your decision. was your essay on the ssat good? as long it is similar
and honestly I think some people will have their parents or friends read it before the y submit it.

Helloel just ,make the book capitals like the book Harry Potter and The Sorcerer’s Stone

Okay thanks what would you say I should do about indentations? Just use the spacebar to move it over or leave it as it is?

I didn’t use indents. so just leave it

What I did is hit extra twice.

Like that lol. I wouldn’t use the spacebar as it will probably take up unnecessary characters which could be very useful. As for the titles, I’m just using commas.

extra? whats extra?

Theatregeek: Thanks I’ll try that I’m on my phone now so I’m not sure if there’s an extra button on my computer. And you’re using commas for book titles?

Oh woops I meant enter haha brain-fart. But yes I’m using the commas

Oh hah okay so you just put commas before and after the title?

brain fart… lol

Yes for example: “Uglies”. (thats the book.im writing about)

Oh you mean quotation marks! Hah
