How soon will we hear about admission decision?

mommaMafia - Monday would be the soonest, the average is about a week, so you might not see it until the end of this week. But you just never know, I have seen as little as 2 days and as much as 3 weeks (the latter is very rare). But the vast majority seem to be in that 5-10 day window.

At least you know she is in!!

Congratulations to everyone who has received positive news! As of last week, my Ds GC had still not forwarded her transcript, secondary school report, and rec letter - very frustrating. My D submitted appl on Oct 20. Now that the Nov 1 EA deadline has passed, hopefully she will send the info. I did notice her Gibson acct said…

Undergraduate Admissions (2013 Fall) :Incomplete/Items Outstanding

but did not list whats missing as it had before. She and my husband had registered for the Nov 10 Campus Preview Days but had to cancel due to Field Hockey playoffs. They will go down on their own Nov 30. Hopefully, we hear something by then.

My D did NOT have top credentials of the rest of the students who were accepted. Tulane was her first choice. She visited, went to a college night, did online chats, and kept in contact with her counselor. Wrote a great "Why Tulane " essay that was genuine. In essence really showed interest. Applied SCEA. Plus had great community service and extra curriculars. well rounded but grades were at low end. So there is hope for the ones who are not posting crazy good stats!!! Thank goodness she was accepted because there was no other school she loved… Sending deposit in as soon as I get paperwork.

That’s good I hear madre. There is no other school that I have really come to love (although I haven’t visited yet) as much as Tulane and I feel like Tulane has everything I am looking for in a school.

To hear* sorry, on my phone and am not entirely accurate with my typing.

Thank you all so much!! I really, really appreciate it.

@fallenchemist- thank you again! You really did offer some great advice earlier in the process  I will be applying for the DHS, the Paul Tulane, and the community service scholarships. Anything that I could be offered would be amazing! And you’re right, I am waiting on Vandy. I applied ED there, but who knows what’s going to happen? I’m not sure about my chances at vandy, but that’s okay, because I love Tulane and would be overjoyed to end up there!

Madre, Thanks for your response. It confirmed what FC said. I am trying not to be obsessed, but we all want our kids to be happy. This is the only school my DD wants to go to. ( Although I do agree with FC, she’ll have a great experience wherever she goes and she has been accepted to her backup school) Madre, IF you don’t mind sharing…what were your daughter’s stats? I totally understand if you don’t want to share BUT since this is totally confidential, it would be encouraging to me, Bowler and all the other non posting non 36 ACt 3.9 GPA students!

Yes, fallenchemist, I am just so glad to already have the decision! I texted DD at school, and she got the message just before theatre class 8th period. Her friend announced it to all the drama students. 'Was a very exciting day and a big boost I think for DD before a theatre competition today.

I love the stories of when students find out they got in, they got a nice merit offer, they got the DHS (and now the Paul Tulane)… Always fun.

Is anyone knowledgeable about the need-based financial aid that Tulane offers? I read about it on the website but I am not sure if I am interpreting it correctly. My dad does not make much money and my parents are divorced so I might be able to receive a lot of need-based aid.

I don’t know about “a lot” but a private school probably offers more in need-based aid as it does with merit-based aid than public schools…

I know something about it, lots of people know more, but here goes. You have to have both parents fill out the FAFSA and CSS forms, it does not matter if they are divorced. From these Tulane will calculate what is called your Expected Financial Contribution (EFC). So let’s say that after all factors are taken into account, they think that your family should be able to pay $5,000 per year. Given that Tulane will cost about $60,000 when you are ready to go, that leaves $55,000 to be made up via merit and/or need-based aid. Merit aid, if you get any, is essentially a discount on your costs. It is Tulane bonus bucks, if you will. Or you can look at it as being an asset that is added to your EFC, except it is only good at Tulane. So if you got a $15,000 merit scholarship, now you still need $40,000.

So now Tulane will offer you a financial aid package that will most likely consist of some combination of grants (like merit money, this does not need to be paid back but unlike merit awards this can vary from year to year), loans, and work-study. Tulane does not promise to meet 100% of the remainder, either, but you just have to see what they offer to determine if they have or have not.

The other thing you can look into is if the combined income of both your parents is less than $75,000 you may qualify for the NOLA (NO Loan Assistance) program. Here Tulane promises to cover tuition, fees, and transportation costs without any loans involved. You still may have to cover room and board and other miscellaneous expenses, but at least it becomes far more manageable.

That’s about all the insight I have, and I think I got the facts right. Certainly the people in the financial aid office will work with you to get everything you need in place. There is a Feb. 15 deadline to get the documents in, and I recommend starting much earlier.

Hi all! Power is back on here in central New Jersey! Finally warming up! Congrats to everyone else who received their acceptances. Haven’t gotten the official letter yet Very interested to see if there is any $$ offered. I will keep you posted.

Glad you have your power back, jozuko. Just in time before it gets really chilly tonight, form what I hear. Certainly is nippy here in RI.

Does anyone know when to expect to see Gibson back up and running?

Thank you FC. I am not sure about how much money bot my parents make together… It MIGHT be less than 75k… I know the FAFSA doesn’t ask about non-custodial parent income but the CSS profile does. But I know that my EFC is 0 because my brother had an EFC of 0. He got the full Pell Grant. I think the NOLA is what I was reading about and I am not sure if I would qualify. I also read that if we can have the 2012 income info on the CSS profile then it is better to have it on there than to have to estimate, so I was going to wait until January to do it since the FAFSA isn’t available until then anyway. Or should I do the CSS profile now?

That is a question better asked the financial aid counselor assigned to you. My feeling is they will say submit everything now and they will then adjust for 2012 returns, but I am not sure. Here is the list of financial aid counselor assignments, it goes by your last name. Of course you may want to wait until you hear about your EA decision.

Okay! I just thought I’d ask. I will be sure to contact them after my decision, if it’s a good one. Thanks for your input.

Oliver- DS received an acceptance today w/ 20k academic merit scholarship. ACT 28, 4.0 gpa, top 5%, rigorous course load, and above average ECs. Student body pres, 3 yr letterman, class pres for 9-11, other clubs and outside volunteer work ( nothing extraordinary). Needless to say the entire family is shocked and overjoyed.

That is wonderful news! That makes me feel better about my chances since my ACT score isn’t as high as those of the people that typically that post on here. It’s good to not only see he was accepted but with some scholarship money. Congrats to you both.

Oh, by the way, my status no longer says incomplete/outstanding items with nothing listed. It is now back to completely blank, if anyone was wondering.
