Thanks to fallenchemist for helping us first-timers. I contacted my child’s guidance counselor again about the 11/15 deadline. Like many other counselors, she was tending to the 11/1 deadlines first. My child submitted his SCEA application at the end of September and has yet to receive a response from Tulane because of the missing doc from school. Maybe I’m just being paranoid because there are still 10 days left, but it’s really frustrating (especially when your child is a NMSF with high stats). Is it pretty standard for schools to get docs in just under the deadline?

Justmehere - I don’t know about standard, but all too common I am afraid. I fully realize some schools have too few counselors for too many students, but at most schools I would say that they are just not putting in the time needed during these critical few months of the year. I know I would get howls of protests from GC’s if I said this in their forum, and there are a lot of really good ones that care and put in the time. There is one on here in particular that is amazingly caring (talking about you, R!). But these ones that just can’t get the job done to meet the needs of the students and maximize their chances of getting into the best schools they can just make me very angry.

Now to be fair, I have also seen parents that have unrealistic demands as well, so it cuts both ways. But bottom line it is the GC’s job to help these students get into the best school for them.

My child’s counselor recognized the importance of getting materials in as soon as possible and had everything in by 9/15. They were correct as we heard back by 11/1 . If we were denied then it gave us time to do a ED or EA at other schools. Plus it alleviated so much stress waiting to hear and we did not need to visit some back up plan schools. I would be furious if it took our school that long to get out transcripts and recommendations.

Wuhanddrummer - I think a resume is fine, but assuming your resume is in Word or whatever, can’t you just cut and paste? You can still attach your resume, but it shouldn’t require retyping everything to fill out the online application.

fallenchemist-
It is in word and I can cut and paste however, I have more then 10 extra circulars so I would not be able to fit all in the amount of fill ins available and would have to submit a resume anyway? Do you think it would be better to cut and paste to fill ins?
Also what do you think about my situation with part one of the application?

Wuhandrummer: My son emailed his resume to his admissions counselor. She suggested that at the Tulane Comes to You function we attended. She said it was easier to review and I would agree. The format on the application (not just Tulane’s) is not really meaningful when you are breaking activities out into hours per week. You might try emailing yours if you can’t upload it to the additional information spot on the application.

I defer to kreativekat and the admissions counselor on this one! Also, I answered your other question on the chance thread.

I just checked gibson during school today and saw that I was accepted. This makes me so happy I cannot contain my excitement!

Congrats Bowler!!

Congratulations, Bowler!!!

Bowler!!! Way to go! You must be over the moon. I am proud to have played a very small roll in helping you maintain sanity as you waited, lol.

Congrats to you Bowler! I guess that answer was worth the wait!

Congrats Bowler!!!

I hate to be so unoriginal but…Congratulations Bowler!! I am very excited for you. I can tell you were starting to obsess!

Thanks everyone! I hoped for but did not expect a decision so soon. Thanks FC for helping me keep my sanity. That’s always important!

Congrats Bowler! Remind me, when did you apply? SCEA or EA? When do you believe your app was complete?

CONGRATS BOWLER!!! Can you remind us again of your stats? So happy for you!!

Thank you! I finished the first part of the application on the 14th of October, had everything in by the 23rd, and marked as complete last Thursday, the 1st of November. I applied EA. I am not sure how long they had everything or when they started reviewing my app but it wasn’t marked as complete until last Thursday.

Bowler, do you mind sharing your stats?

Sure,
4.0 UW/4.4 W GPA and a 30 on the ACT.
I had fair amounts of ECs and community service too. I had 2 letters of rec sent (not sure if they even read the 2nd one since it was just sent at the end of last week).
