How soon will we hear about admission decision?

Yup. I hope so. Do you think a week or two is reasonable? Or does it really depend on the applicant and who your officer is ?

It really does depend on those two factors, although I don’t want to give the impression that who gets in depends on your officer, apparently just the speed of a decision.

Has anyone heard back from kasey Bruns?

Is it possible they are holding out on some apps because of the Paul Tulane award, like if they want to send all that out in one letter? I didn’t think so, but I’m not really understanding the “rolling” aspect of that scholarship (or why my acceptance is taking so long haha)

The Paul Tulane scholarship is due on DEC 15 so not sure how that could affect our admissions?

but with any college with rolling admissions, there is an official due date, but you can turn your app in prior and get a decision on a rolling basis (even before it is due). so, i’m not sure if the scholarship is being handled that way or if it is rolling after the december 15th deadline…does that make sense?

That’s right Wuhandrummer. I didn’t think about it until just now, but when the web site says rolling notifications for the Paul Tulane Award I am confident that means rather than announcing them all at the same time like the DHS, which has always been in late February like the week after Presidents’ Day, they will notify winners of the PTA as they decide them. But I think certainly this would be after November 15 since one has to apply EA or SCEA to be eligible, and almost certainly after December 15 when all the PTA apps are due. I just have a hard time imagining they would start deciding before at least having a general idea what the pool of applicants looks like.

km - I understand your analogy to admissions and it isn’t that your logic is flawed, it is just the difference in availability and competition. With admissions they have a pretty good idea based on history and other factors that even when they admit students before seeing the entire pool, they will end up with a class pretty much like they are trying to get. With an award like this, on the other hand, they would want, I think, to truly have the entire pool in hand before starting to make assessments since the number of “slots” is so limited.

Flyboy2tf - I have. I was accepted on November 5th and have exchanged emails with her a few times before then.

If the admissions officer for my area (Kohn) will be out of the office for two weeks (as stated in an automated reply from her email address) does that mean I will not be notified until she comes back?

I suspect these adcoms are not really out of their offices. They just need uninterrupted time to review the apps and send out the emails/letters.

When was your app completed by Bowler?

I had everything sent in around the 27th of October, I don’t remember exactly but it wasn’t marked as complete until the 1st of November.

@mavitale- I have Hannah Udell and my acceptance was posted to Gibson on October 29. I received my letter several days later. I think a few students mentioned earlier that they also have Hannah and they’ve heard back.

Has anyone been accepted yet in California?
If so what region???

Has anyone seen any rejections or deferrals posted here yet? Maybe it is just the “easy admits” that are getting their decisions so quickly and the others wait to see how the app pool is shaping up.

@pushydad- I was wondering the same thing, I haven’t seen any deferrals or anything yet either. It also seems like most acceptances have come along with offers of many, indicating strong students. I mean, it could always be that those who were deferred aren’t eager to post about it online, but still!

You are both right, and there is a third factor.

1) Deferrals especially tend to come later in the cycle, since in many of those cases it will probably go to a group decision, but also a lot depends on how the pool is shaping up in general, which cannot be known until they take stock of offers already made late in the EA cycle;

2) People that are deferred or denied are generally not that eager to post. Last year the people that did post this news were usually very high achieving students that were shocked when Tulane turned them down or wait listed them. I guess they just didn’t believe us on here when they were told that stats alone were not enough, it takes showing some real interest in attending;

3) The CC group are highly skewed towards the upper end of academic achievement and in showing interest in Tulane, the very fact that they are here tends to support the latter. So they tend to get in at a far higher rate than the general applicant pool and get merit support. If you went by CC alone, you would think the Tulane pool was equivalent to the Harvard pool! I love Tulane and think in some ways and certainly for many people it can be better than Harvard, but from the limited view of academic stats, obviously Harvard and similar schools do have higher numbers. My point is only that one cannot view the applicant world through the CC lens. Doing that would put it highly out of focus.

Can I still submit my “why Tulane essay” even though my application is shown as complete on Gibson? Does it even matter at this point?

Yes and Yes. E-mail it directly to your admissions counselor. I recommend getting to them before the Nov. 15 deadline.

I got accepted in mid October via Gibson notification, but since then the “congrats you’ve been accepted!” message changed back to “your application is being rendered by admissions we’ll give you an answer soon etc”. We called the office of admissions and they said I was accepted, but I’ve yet to recieve a formal letter in the mail. My friend who lives nearby applied and got in after me and recieved theirs. Is the system messed up or should I be worried?
