I think I will talk to my guidance counselor about sending out those grades tomorrow. Thanks for the advice. Pushydad, good luck to your daughter! keep us updated! Because we are similar I will definitely be curious to see what happens

my DD’s stats are similar to PushyDad and renul11 as well. We are also getting very concerned- same story- visited the school twice, SCEA, good Tulane essay etc… I was also wondering if she was borderline. My DD’s application was sent in Oct. 31st and showed complete via Gibson November 10th. We have seen applicants with higher scores accepted that have the same rep as my DD. Good for the school, not so great for our kids! Good luck to everyone that is still waiting.

My son got accepted about 2 weeks after application’s status complete on Gibson and the letter came 5 days later. Good luck to everybody!

Same boat as renuI11, pushydad and oliver17. DD has ACT of 30, 3.7uw, 4.56w. 6 AP’s including 6 advanced math courses, and Varsity drill team Captain. Multiple clubs, honor societies and community service. She is Hispanic and plans to double major in Chemical Engineering and Environmental Science. Applied EA and submitted 10/6. Visited Tulane on 10/20 and personally delivered additional recommendations. We also had a meeting with the Director of the Engineering dept. and was told they were heavily trying to recruit ChemE students. Gibson consistently showed incomplete and missing documents since login was initially received. Called 2 weeks ago and told application was complete but Gibson did not change from incomplete/missing documents. Called last week again and Gibson changed to complete. Getting nervous. She’s applied to 5 schools and she’s been accepted at 2 so far. We’re in Texas.

OK, time for one of the alternate theories. Now I don’t know if this is correct, but it also would explain some of the time differences. There are three admissions counselors that are new this cycle. It could be that they are having their decisions reviewed by more senior personnel until they have more experience. That would make sense to me, and would also slow down the process for all parties, potentially and possibly randomly.

I don’t know if my theorizing a bit helps or not, but I do encourage all to try and relax a little. You clearly have outstanding students and children, who will do well wherever they end up. I hope it is Tulane as well, but I honestly do not think the timing here means anything. There are just too many variables that might be totally unrelated to the viability of the application to correlate the two.

So deep breaths (my universal solution to everything) and have a fantastic Thanksgiving, because even being in this position is absolutely worth giving thanks for. I see so many situations where going to college is so far off the table you can’t even see the tablecloth, even the prospect of going to Big State U would be a miracle. We are all blessed indeed.

^^ well said Fallen Chemist!

Well, FC, you’ve been thru this twice and seem to know what you’re talking about. I am going to take your words to heart. Thanks for putting things in perspective. It’s nothing we don’t know, but sometimes we just need to be reminded.

My child has slightly higher but similar stats to PushyDad, renul11, gonzo531 and oliver17. Mine applied back in September SCEA, has 8 APs, huge EC, visited the campus, spoke with the Admissions Rep and met the Rep at HS. Had all of the Gibson issues with no login, status ups downs and now sitting for weeks. I am now going with the theory that there is an SAT/ACT threshold that gets reviewed immediately upon receipt and the rest get reviewed sometime following… the stats we have put my child right in the middle 50% of those accepted so I am really puzzled.

Y’all need to keep some things in context:

For most schools that are peers of TU, early action means you hear back in late December or maybe even January. It often also means that everyone hears back at the same time. So it is still very early in the whole process and you’ll still be hearing back from TU sooner than you will elsewhere.

TU isn’t really a rolling admissions school (i.e. first app in, first decision out). It would make sense that some applicants would get a quick turn around – no brainer admits with way way above average stats. If TU’s 25/75 range is 29-32, a 34 ACT probably is going to be a quick yes. A 31 ACT is still above average (i.e likely to be accepted and get some money), but you’d expect the turn around wouldn’t be so automatic. Although they’re not posting here, you’d also expect that there are some very quick rejections going out too.

TU draws a LOT of its applicants and students from the Northeast. Because of Sandy, the SCEA/EA deadlines have been extended from 11/15 to 11/26. If EA apps are still coming in at this point, it is reasonable that the turn around on median-type apps this year might be running slower than previous years. Plus, TU itself was shut down for a week for its own hurricane.

Just hang in there guys! My app was submitted on September 1st and I received my acceptance letter on Friday! I also had stats in the middle 50% (30 ACT, 3.86 uwGPA) so just have faith!

Callie and Duke- Congratulations to both of you!

Callie And Duke Congrats!! Now im just waiting for my letter!

Hi everyone! I’ve been following this post for some time now and I thought I would finally post something. Congratulations to everyone who has been accepted!! I’m extremely jealous. I too have been having issues with guidance counselors waiting until 11pm on the day of the deadline (she wasn’t aware that it was extended) to submit required forms, even though my application has been submitted for nearly three weeks now. I have a 3.73 GPA (my school didn’t specify weighted or unweighted), a 2050 SAT score, lots of extracurriculars, over 500 volunteer hours, a few minor leadership positions, a part time job, NHS, 8 APs, and part of an honors program for all four years of high school. I’d say I’m a pretty solid B+ student, with my only major weakness being my complete lack of skills regarding any type of math. What are some opinions on my possible acceptance chances? Best of luck to everyone!!

I would say your chances look good. I will assume the 3.73 is weighted, only because you describe yourself as a B+ student, which is a 3.33 and you have taken/are taking 8 AP courses. So with that plus the honors program you are in, most likely that is weighted. So while a 3.33 UW might be a bit on the low side normally, you have taken a very strong schedule of courses. That plus your solid SAT plus all the EC’s/community service seems to me to indicate a strong app. The big unknown is how much interest have you shown in Tulane so far? Attend a local program or visit campus? Do the Why Tulane portion of the app? Communicate with your admissions officer at Tulane at all? These are important factors.
