Thank you for your insight fallenchemist! I wrote a very strong Why Tulane essay, have visited multiple times, attended the admissions presentation in my town and at my high school, and am in contact with my admissions officer.

Hey!
I’ve been following this post for awhile and I am excited for everyone that has been accepted! I was just accepted this morning and I am from Southern California. Now I’m just waiting on that letter to see how much scholarship money Tulane will give me!!

Very nice, emutt. What are your stats, etc.?

33 ACT, 3.93 UW GPA, 4.54 W GPA, AP Scholar, State Recognized for National History Day, 9 APs by the time I graduate, Multiple Leadership ECs, National Honor Society, Volunteer Organizations, 3 YR Letterman Water Polo, 2 YR Letterman Swimming, Section Leader for Choir.
I do have a question regarding scholarships if anyone knows… I received my scores back for my last ACT (34) and my SAT Math 2 Subject Test (800) within the last week. If I call Tulane, explain this, and send in my scores, will I have a better chance of getting a better scholarship and admission into the Honors College? Or has Tulane already made up her mind about that?
Thanks!

Emutt–Call right now and email your adcom!!!

Vitrac is right, always put your best foot forward. I think an e-mail is more effective than a phone call, just tell them what your new scores are and that the official reports are on their way. Send it directly to your adcom. Do you know who that is?

In this case I suspect you will get the Presidential and the Honors invite anyway, but of course that is just MHO and carries no weight. Hopefully you are also applying for the DHS and the Paul Tulane awards.

BTW, congrats again, this time on having such a stellar high school record. Also, I never understood how you water polo types can swim that long without getting exhausted much earlier. I thought playing ice hockey was tough, and we changed lines every couple minutes!

Vitrac- I emailed my admissions councilor and called Tulane Admissions. It seems that every time I call the admissions desk, they are unavailable…

Fallen- Emailed my adcom! (That is the admissions councilor right?) The Paul Tulane and DHS awards are due in December, right? And thanks!! I’m thankful to have had all the opportunities that I’ve had! Water Polo is intense. I thought about quitting multiple times haha. It’s the hardest sport I’ve ever played!

emutt - Yes, postmark must be December 15 for both. They can technically receive it a few days later as long as the postmark is there. I recommend sending by some method where receipt is logged, such as FedEx or UPS or USPS certified.

Yeah, adcom is admissions councilor, I know the shorthand makes no sense. I guess it comes from admissions committee and just got used for the single person also. I just wanted to make sure you emailed the person specifically and not the general admissions office. It is REALLY busy there right now, peak season so to speak. So no surprise you are getting voice mail.

Let us know when you get the letter!

We had a similar situation with newer, better ACT scores coming in the same day we heard acceptance. Called Couselor but was told they won’t change the amount they offer in the letter . We can ask in the Spring for more if need based. Too bad as I think we would have not only gotten a bit more money but might have had honors invitation.

Myboyz - How much did he get? Did his score go up to a 33 or 34? In the past they have sometimes adjusted the offer, but usually it is also after they see the first semester grades. So for example if he happened to make all A’s or very close to it, that plus the higher ACT might make a difference. It might have just been too soon to ask.

Also, the academic stats does affect the ratio of grant-to-loan money offered in a need-based FA package. Still, come back and let us know how his semester turned out. Maybe there is still a chance.

He went from a 33 to 34. I am wondering if that qualifies him for honors program and if we should call adcom. Also, I think he can now apply for further scholarships, rights?
By the way, this has been the most informative, nicest forum I’ve followed. Makes me want him at TU even more!

Oops, I meant 32 to 33! Sorry

hmmm 32 to 33 alone might not cause them to reconsider, so my thinking would be to see if he has a great semester that is above his current GPA level and then talk to them about the whole package. He can certainly apply for the DHS and the Paul Tulane Award, the 33 will definitely help there. Of course keep in mind they are always hard to get, with many more highly qualified students applying than there are awards to give. But since those have a Dec 15 deadline, you cannot wait for his first semester grades before applying for those. However, they should see those grades before making the awards, at least for the DHS.

Hope that helps a little, certainly come back with any other questions.

What about the honors program? Do you think the 33 makes s difference?

I think that is part and parcel with getting a increase in the merit scholarship. They are both pretty much stats based, so an extremely high correlation between them. But I am sure you have read my comments on here that of all these things, the HP is the least to worry about. He can still take any honors courses he wants, and as long as he gets a 3.6 after his first year he can enter. It really is more about where you end up in that program (graduating with Latin Honors, doing a senior thesis, applying for prestigious fellowships likes Rhodes, Goldwaters, etc.) than if you start out in it. Even wanting Butler as his first dorm is not an issue, there are definitely students that are not currently in the program that aspire to similar goals that choose that dorm.

Finally,!!! Received the acceptance letter today. Applied 9/15, Saw it on Gibson 11/1. Then it was off. Called Admissions multiple times. Finally last week back on Gibson as accepted. Letter dated 11/15…Whew,

Finally! That’s great news - Congratulations Madre1956.

Good to know. Thanks for the info.

Always good to have the real, tangible thing. A good Thanksgiving arrival.

So just to be clear- anyone who got accepted this early didn’t also necessarily get both Presidential Scholarship and Honors Program?
