Hey guys! I just got home from my long Thanksgiving weekend to find my acceptance letter. I received the founders scholarship, 22K a year!!!
Thanks for everybody’s help!

Excellent news. Nicely done.

Wudhandrummer, very exciting. I’m happy for you.

That’s great Wuhandrummer! Congrats!

Yeah congrats Wuhandrummer. That’s amazing!

Thanks again! Best of luck to everyone who has yet to hear about their decision.

congrats wuhandrummer! happy for u!

Wuhandrummer: Congratulations! Great news!

Just logging back on after being away for Turkey Day. Congrats Wuhandrummer and others who have gotten great news. Best of luck to those still waiting and hang in there!

I have asked this before but I am asking again, has anyone heard about any denials or deferrals at this point. My D’s EA application has been complete since mid Oct. She’s fine but the waiting is killing me. ;-)

I haven’t seen any rejections or deferrals on CC, but that doesn’t mean they haven’t happened. ;)

Pushydad: In our area, we have only heard about many acceptances of what appears to be top tier and higher end but nothing on the rest. I have not heard about one denial or deferral and I know of ALOT of acceptances. I am sure they are far from done working on all the remaining and there will be acceptances, denials and deferrals coming in the next three weeks.

We are still waiting too…Gibson is doing its crazy thing again between stating that the app is complete and incomplete with multiple entries - even blank earlier today. I have only heard of acceptances up to this point - this worries me since we have not heard yet…

FC- why do you think some kids are hearing so early and others are not?? Is this bad news for us??? Tulane is a top choice and we are getting more concerned w/each passing day. According to Naviance and the stats I am seeing on here, my son is right where he should be with his numbers…what do you think the hold up can be???

I haven’t checked in on this thread in a while, and am way behind on congrats to everyone’s recent acceptances. I am so proud of our students!

My DS got his SCEA app in and, like many of you, he is in waiting mode. We would not be surprised if he was one of those waitlisted, only b/c his GPA is on the bubble (does have upward trend, though, and worked hard on his “Why Tulane” essay.)

Will keep you guys apprised if anything happens on our end, even if it is not so good news. Because he only recently submitted his app, we are not expecting to hear anything soon, though.

Ah, now I am concerned you are investing me with insight I simply do not possess! LOL, but as always, I can speculate. Here are some of the reasons I can think of:

1) The app is not complete. With Gibson being glitchy on this matter, it makes it especially hard to know for sure. If there is any doubt in your mind on this, contact admissions and ask for a simple confirmation that they do have everything they need.

2) The app was accidentally not marked EA or SCEA, and so they think it is an RD app. If you are checking with admissions to be sure the file is complete, ask for confirmation it is also tagged as EA/SCEA. If you already know the file is complete, you might want to just confirm the EA status.

3) Perhaps some admissions officers are just behind/not as organized as some others. As I have pointed out earlier, three of them are new I am fairly sure. As with any new job there is a learning curve, and while that is unfortunate for those who are affected by this (if it is really even a factor), I can see where it just cannot be helped.

4) The file simply got placed out of order. While I would think they would try and do this FIFO (First In First Out), perhaps that is not always possible. And as we have seen on here from a number of people, when the file was completed may have nothing to do with when the application was put in. Clearly some high schools have waited until the last minute to send in the materials. That certainly could have pushed things down in the pile.

5) Some decisions are easy and others less so. Stats are not the whole picture, and since none of us can see the entire file and what it contains, there may be factors of which we are simply unaware. Not so likely, but maybe there was something that Tulane felt needed to be double checked or whatever.

I think only time will tell if there is any correlation between the timing of the acceptances and the percentage that got accepted. In the past there have been quite a few that got accepted close to Dec 15, but I won’t kid you, that is also when most of the deferrals and denials come as well. However, if your child is a good student that does have the stats and the rest of the record that matches up well with Tulane, and showed interest, you and they have done all that can be done. Worrying won’t help. The odds are on your side, but college admissions is just not 100% predictable anywhere, and the more selective the school, the less predictable it is.

Wow FC - you provide very good insight into the process. We know his app is complete - we have called admissions already because Gibson threw us for a loop a few times before we knew it had glitches…we will have to follow up on the EA piece of it - that was a great suggestion!
There are so many variables - I like to think that the delay is not based on his credentials but I guess we will never know. Reading about what others have experienced on this thread is very helpful, and we are happy for those who can rest easy at this point - and jealous!

I know, Bloomy. I guess I had it easier in a way with my D, because we are lucky enough that she is one of those “perfect students”. For us it was the tension of waiting on the DHS decision because of the affordability issues otherwise. But luckily that came out positive as well.

My son (older than my D) was a bit of a different story. He was a late bloomer as far as academic discipline. Typical of so many boys at that age, did very well in the courses he liked, just did OK in the courses that he didn’t. Started coming around second half of junior year, too late for getting the grades up to the point where he could get decent merit money. Fortunately we found a school that is academically very good, about the same size as Tulane, excellent in the major he wanted (and stayed with) which was Russian, and affordable. Anyway, I am rambling, my point being that it is indeed a tortuous process on various levels.

There are people that have no fingernails left because they are worried their baby won’t get into Harvard or Yale, while others suffer the same medical condition over far less high class issues. Stress is stress, no question. But after some years of observing and my own two, I can tell you with great confidence that he will be at a very good school next year, and he will have a great college career. The vast majority do.

FC - I appreciate your words of encouragement - it really helps. I too believe that when the dust settles and options are weighed, that my son will go to the best place suited for him - as most other students do. I have an older daughter but forgot how stressful this process can be - guess I blocked it out (it is different with each kid). He will hear from 4 schools by the end of December - can’t come soon enough. We will remain optimistic and keep checking Gibson…

Just found out I got into Tulane. GPA 3.5 UW 31 ACT 2000 SAT. Probably not going but that could change after I go to NO and vist.

dadler-what are your other top choices?
