Bloomy, what are his stats?

Newjersey17 - I received your pm, but cc now doesn’t allow me to respond unless I have a certain number of posts, which I don’t - just very lengthy posts. Please PM me with your contact information and I will respond. Thank you.

@Fallenchemist Yes.TCU is Texas Christian …got acceptance there this morning as well, but no idea yet how much merit aid she will get from TCU…Tulane was way more than expected…but also way more expensive…
How easy is it at Tu to get campus job if you are not on work study? How easy to become RA as a sophomore?

hugoblack - his stats are 2080 SAT (800 math), 31 ACT, 4.0 w w/19 honors classes and 3 APs, 800 SAT math II, 770 SAT math 1, NHS, Science NHS, President of a club, varsity soccer, tons of community service - 80+ hrs in NOLA building houses, etc. He had strong essays too…visited TU 2 times. So upset right now - Tulane is a top choice.

Bloomy-You need to CALM DOWN. He is getting in. Looking forward to the day I can say I told you so and you will have to buy me a drink. Please, trust me. I am writing this on a public forum. My reputation is at stake.

I have to say that you made me laugh Vitrac - thanks for that!!! It is hard when I see so many acceptances and we’ve heard nothing. He applied in August!!

Bloomy, if those of us with lesser stats haven’t given up hope, you certainly shouldn’t. But I have to say that between the way the decisions come dribbling out and the Gibson snafu, it is a terrible process.

My stats aren’t as impressive as your son’s Bloomy, but I applied in August as well. So it’s obviously has nothing to do with date of application.

Calmomofthree - I see what you are saying now. TCU is about $10,000 less sticker price, so if they give you $10,000 in scholarship it is about a wash, if they give you more it is cheaper, less it isn’t. Do I have that right?

But I was looking at your posts in the TCU forum and I want to make sure something is clear here. This is merit money, not need-based aid. So the net price calculator doesn’t apply, it won’t predict merit aid. At least that is my understanding, I have never actually used it. You are still eligible for need-based aid, although certainly the merit award will be figured into the equation.

Also, I have to take issue with another poster there that was comparing the two schools. There is really a fairly significant difference in the stats of the entering students at the two schools. About a 100 point difference on each section of the SAT and the Tulane mid-range on the ACT is 29-32, which to me is quite a bit higher than TCU’s 24-29. To be clear, I am absolutely not putting down TCU at all, and one can obviously get a great education there. And if the choice were Tulane and major debt/draining expense vs. TCU for much less, I would also take TCU. There are obviously a lot of factors to take into account when the time comes. But to me, these schools are academically at different levels. However, as I have said many times, that is only one factor albeit a major one. Besides expense, there is overall fit which breaks down into numerous factors.

Anyway, just wanted to clarify a few things, if they needed it. Perhaps they didn’t.

P.S. I meant to add that as far as the scholarships, if your daughter has a strong record of community service she could apply for the CSS, due January 15. Can be worth up to $15,000.

Bloomy - I think the other posters say it well, so I will only add that doing the Universal App in no way is a problem unless it somehow caused two files to be started on your child. But since you know the file is complete, it just isn’t an issue. I don’t think there is an issue except for whatever reason your son’s app has not had a decision yet. He may have applied in August, but it is very unlikely his file was complete by then.

Again, unless there is something we just cannot see, his stats and overall record seem solid enough. His chances seem very good.

I learned on campus tour the other day that non-work study jobs are available at the rec center. Can’t specifically say it is “easy” (who’s to judge) but the tour guide pointed out that they are available and work within a student’s particular schedule.

I will say that cc has been therapeutic for me - I thank you all for that…It is nice to be able to get info, see what others are experiencing and get support. I have never been on a forum like this before - I will recommend it. It makes me less stressed that several of you feel that my son is a good candidate based on his credentials - hopefully admissions will feel the same way!

FC or anyone else- Does anyone know if Tulane admissions realizes what a mess Gibson is ? They have had enough time to fix or at least acknowledge that there is a problem. It has caused added stress and anxiety to applicants and their parents!

Yes, I absolutely know that they know, because some of them look at CC from time to time and Jeff Schiffman, one of the senior people in admissions, posts here from time to time as TulaneJeff. Besides which I know there are more than a few parents that would not be shy about letting them know. Some on here have said they have called to check the status when they saw the screen status change, and surely some of them said something as well.

That is why I think that there must be some overriding reason they cannot do a fix at this time. I am not smart enough to know what that is, but I know they don’t enjoy this problem and the fact that it looks bad for the school at all either.

Is anybody here an international?

Just got in with a 3.3UW/3.5W and 31 ACT! There’s still hope for people with borderline stats

sdstar did you find out today? what time?

Congrats sdstar - 31 ACT not borderline. How many AP courses have you taken and are taking? Where are you from?

Yep just found out today around 9am pacific time! (I’m in San Diego, CA)
I only have 2 APs and a few more honors classes
