How was Admit Weekend?

Tell us all about it. I really want to go to this school really bad. I'll be applying for the 2009-2010 school year.

Amazing... Best school in the world....
During the weekend, I tried to avoid some of the advertising gimmicks and sugar-coated things that are at all admit weekends. This opinion is based off of an unbiased, genuine and authentic judgement of the school.

I had such a great time, one of the funnest weekends in a while. The biggest difference that I saw at Stanford's Admit weekend vs other east coast top schools(Yale n upenn) the students there were so much happier and way more down to earth.

If I were tell you about the whole weekend, then I'd be at this post for an hour or two. So I'll make it short: Best school in the country. Period.

-Now I just have to make sure i don't get rescinded!

Fleet Street's metrosexual and pee in the shower ownz.

^^ haha, I loved that. They performed it in Roble and that's when I really started to like Stanford's a cappella groups. =p

Fleet street is amazingly awesome - they definitely saved the best a cappella group for last with the choir concert =)

Branner ftw! Roble was pretty fun too though

Admit weekend was really fun. Stanford met all of my expectations and more. The students are so down to earth....they don't give off the elitist vibe that I got off of some students at east coast schools. I also liked the "just say yes" banners hung in front of the alumni center. And fleet street rocks. :)

SO MUCH FUN!!! fleet street rocks, but I've been a cappella'd out...you'll see more a cappella than you ever wanted to :D

Am I the only one that thought AW was just decent. I mean it's better than most other ones I've been to, but I was a bit disappointed. Maybe it was just the hot temperature--got a nice tan from that weekend.

^ya i thought it was ok, nothing really spectacular. the a cappella groups were great, but i'm sure most other schools have them too. same with MITs CPW...it was just kinda meh.

Did you guys not like your hosts or stay with your parents or something? I LOVED AW!!! It was the most fulfilling AW I've been to and I went to two others.

I had a bad host and was terribly annoyed with the preppy annoying people at the hohopalooza dance that ran off to a frat party. I hate, absolutely hate people like that, they are so fake. I might have to say no if there are too many people like that.

really? wow i had the opposite experience...i think stanford has the least preppy people i know. the people there are one of the reasons i'm choosing stanford. they are so welcoming and unpretentious.

AW was seriously the BEST EVER!!

im deciding between stanford and penn too. i was at penn for 2 days and didnt get the feel that kids were stuck up or unhappy at all. i didnt think the AWs were much different, and wish i couldve been at penn a few more days (sooo much i couldnt see, my analysis might be mistaken). main difference was that stanford's was mostly student-run, while at penn everything was with the admissions officers (which was cool for me. i really liked my a.o. at stanford but met her after a few days there and only talked to her for about a half hour with her other admits. my penn ao was always there). one big difference that favors stanford, however, is that the students were amazingly friendly and were really excited about us. they were for the most part geniunely interested in seeing us pre frosh have a good time and trying to convince us to go to stanford. students would stop and ask me if i needed help when i walked around with a map and really lost. i have no complaints about the people i met at penn, most were great, but no one asked if i needed help even tho i heard a girl say "these are all pre frosh". having said that, everyone was helpful once i asked for help.

overall, admit weekend was great. my biggest complaint is that the campus is way too huge and i wouldve enjoyed it much more if id had a bike, but they cant really do anything about that. stanford is awesome, it is most unreasonable that i chose penn but what the hell, for some reason i think its right for me. they really do care about you there and want you to have a good time. i think if stanford werent an entire day's worth of traveling away from home for me, and if it werent so "suburban", i def would chose stanford if only for the people i met at AW and the chillin, laid back attitude under which they handle so much stress. and u cant beat palm trees, warm weather, studying in a swimsuit while getting a tan, and the fact that its perfectly acceptable to "hop" into a fountain if it gets too hot (idk if the last part holds true when its not aw thoguh).

sorry. i was gonna write that aw was great and ended summarizing all the thinking ive been doing. big decision tho so dont hold it against me :P

andy_g-from your post, it seems like you genuinely like stanford more and are convincing yourself to like penn.

perfectly acceptable year-round andy_g-just as long as you're properly clothed.

See, I sorta saw otherwise. Most of the current students were great, but many of the profros seemed sort of arrogant/elitist (especially once I mentioned that my other top choice is Berkeley--which they then proceeded to bash). Then again, I don't know how it compares to the Ivies--I didn't apply to them.

Pretty much the same. I didn't come back from it jumping with joy...

All the dorm spirit got kind of annoying too. CASA ZAPATA ES TU PAPA **** OFF.

^Yea, I really don't like how people bashed berkeley so much. It was kinda annoying. The amount of caltech/harvard bashing at MIT's CPW wasn't even close to this. The people at the stanford student store wore a shirt that read "Cal sucks -- that's what she said". But they can't sell those anymore because they got sued by berkeley. lol.

well, kyle...that's just not nice language...i thought you were in roble anyway?

Oh, I'd also like ask, what's with all the "I see you _____!"? I mean, no crap we can see him/her. He/she is on the freakin stage. Is that a Stanford thing or west coast thing?

kyledavid80: I hope you can ignore the attitude of a lot of the profros when you make your decision. I think a lot of the profros are just a little insecure and so they feel like they have to compare SAT scores still haha. I remember during AW thinking the same thing as you. But once I started attending Stanford, most of the students became MUCH more down to earth (especially after their first midterms).

And don't let the whole anti-cal stuff irk you guys. Most of the people here don't REALLY hate Cal. We have more of a rivalry with them. If we hate anyone, we hate U$C and their one note band.
