Howard University Class of 2020!

Was wondering if anyone has received notification about the School of Business’s honors program yet? I talked to the honors director on Monday and she said the email would be sent out on Tuesday. She said that I was accepted, but I’m worried about the lack of notification :-/

@Snowybuny as it is the middle of finals, turning in final grades, preparing for graduation, etc. I would be surprised if you here this week or even next. But, HU does sometimes surprise you! Congrats on the business school as it is well respected on and off campus. Get your work attire ready. I remember D’s friend having to dress ‘business appropriate’ now and then for class.

@JustinPon it can take awhile to update. Under Student Requirements in Bison Web is it showing that you still need to accept the scholarship?
As for changes in scholarship status with new financial aid information, well my guess it might depend on the scholarship. It seems that this year only Founders and Presidential do not consider your income and aid eligibility at all. If you got the Capstone, it seems to be based on your need.
For all, be sure to submit, now and in years to come, whatever documents and items you are told to submit.

@ReturningFavor Thank you for the reply! I know that Howard doesn’t have the most fastpaced administration, but since the director had told me it would be sent out on Tuesday I was concerned that they didn’t have my correct email or something.

@ReturningFavor It is written that the contract is still missing. Is it true for international students; that financial is a determining factor for CAPSTONE? They told me on the bisonweb that the award totals to $24,173. Will it change once they receive the financial information?

@JustinPon you may have to call. The capstone changed effective this year and my understanding is that it is now need based in part. But I don’t know how that impacts international students in general (as you don’t file fasfa, correct?)or you in particular. Does the contract mention adjustments based on their receipt of all financial required data?
If not than perhaps you were awarded a definitive, already determined amount.

Yes we do not need to submit FAFSA or rather, cannot apply for it. In the contract it is stated that federal verification can affect the amount. Is federal verification a factor for international students, as I feel that it somewhat means the FAFSA?

For those who don’t know … Howard raised the criteria for scholarships because the new incoming class have such strong test scores and GPAs. Way to go #HU20 … one of the strongest classes in recent history I’m reading.

But to all of #HU20 who do not have good scholarships or have to take out massive loans each year. Do not attend, go to a cheaper school. Howard is not worth $50,000 debt for an undergraduate degree. TRUST ME … NO SCHOOL IS WORTH THAT MUCH DEBT WHEN CHEAPER OPTIONS EXIST.

An undergraduate degree is almost like a high school diploma now. A master’s degree is the new bachelor’s degree.

@NuScholar I absolute agree with everything you said. I even reject some tippy toppy schools for Howard because nothing can beat a full ride. As an upper middle class student I will still have to take out a ton of loans even for the most generous colleges in the country since our income is very deceiving. Undergrad is the least important so why would I drown myself in debt, especially when I have to worry about funding medical school lol.

Is anyone under medical or international student hold rn??

For those who have experience with the international student hold can you tell us what your process was like? I know it’s about legalling getting you into your country but was it a stressful process and when did the hold get released?

Howard did not raise the scholarship criteria because of the incoming freshman class. Because of financial difficulties, mostly due to the hospital bleeding money, administration decided they could no longer give out so many scholarships.

@partyof5 I also heard that they had far too many kids on the legacy scholarship and wanted to focus the $ on presidential and founders level students. I actually think that makes sense, but that perhaps capstone non-need based could have stayed with a bit higher act/sat and with it being 3.3 or 3.5 to maintain it.
To give out the legacy full tuition to so many students at a private college and only require a 3.0 to keep it was financial bad management. If my next one up wants $ from Howard he will have to up his game a bit and ACT score to get a scholarship and put forth a lot of effort once there to keep it.
We won’t get need dollars out of capstone and I’m not sure he can make the ACT score for Founders. But those who can should get offered the $ first. Sadly, my next might not be one of them. :frowning:

I have a question about accepting the scholarship: I signed the edoc and got sent email confirmation of signing it but in the “student requirements” part of the bison portal it says I still need to complete those forms. Is that a problem or just slow updating?

Also, this is a different topic but does anyone here know Howard’s IB credit policies? Do they award credit for IB standard level courses? I called to ask but got mixed responses

@cookiestar is there a way to accept and decline the scholarship on bison web under financial aid: student requirements? If so, accept there as well.
Sorry, no info on IB. If you’re bond I think their adviser will address that with you.

@ReturningFavor

It just says status: needs to submit/ no file status , even though I have done it.

I would think the esign would be fine, but perhaps call tomorrow and direct message on of the other posters on this site (who has mentioned receiving a scholarship) to see what theirs says regarding accepting the scholarship. You may want to print your esign document if you have not yet.

Howard is really slow in processing. How long does updating the Bisonweb take normally? I have esigned since April 22nd and because they still had not updated it, I faxed them on April 30th too. Today I checked the Bisonweb and it still has not been updated. I called them and they have variety of answers. Also, I have paid the enrollment fee since April 21st along with a housing fee app deposit. I still have not received confirmation mail about them. Although I have no information on the enrollment fee deposit, for the housing app I have checked on the Bisonweb and it is written that I do not have a housing app yet. How long does all this normally take? I am getting worried since it’s already past May 1st and I’ve already dismissed all my other school options. I hope I am not making a very wrong choice here.

I was told updating to bisonweb would occur after graduation, May 7th along with housing assignments. Once I submitted my daughter’s housing fee I emailed residence life and asked them to confirm that they had received the fee and the housing application and they got back to me right away and confirmed that they did. Then told me they wouldn’t be releasing more housing assignments until after the 7th.

Thank you so much for reassuring @mtjones1 . I feel alittle better now knowing that the housing part is ok. What about the scholarship acceptance contract? Also, when do we have to start enrolling for classes and pay for the semester?
