Howard University Class of 2020!

@ReturningFavor there is no option for me in Bisonweb to accept further? As of now it’s saying under the ‘accept award offer’ page: Fund
HUFS-Capstone Scholarship

Status
Web Accepted

Term
Unscheduled

Amount
$24,173.00

Fund Total:
$24,173.00

Should I be worried or anything? :frowning:

housing application on the bison website finally update!

Mine has not updated yet.

@JustinPon you can call financial aid and confirm that you have done all you need to on your end and explain what you are seeing on Bison Web. I think you are okay.

As for housing…I guess most freshman will be in Quad and CHN for ladies and Drew for men (and maybe Carver??). Not sure about Annex. Lots of change with Annex in the last couple of years.

Move in for us was crazy. We were not use to an urban campus and so that made it a bit stressful for me. Sometimes everyone in the family is excited and wants to be present. However I would advise that you not bring elderly relatives…it is hot and there might be a good bit of walking at times. Younger siblings are fine if they don’t mind times of waiting and sitting. Coming alone is fine too if you are comfortable with it. My D’s roommate flew in alone with a few suitcases and then went and bought a pillow and extra bedding and towels once there when they made their first foray to Walmart.

You’ll be able to walk to a CVS for last minute things you forget and will soon enough learn the metro and buses to get to Walmart, best buy, etc. Our D did not bring her car for freshman or sophomore year, and likely will not even as a junior. She gets around just fine without it and freshman are not provided parking.

Is HU doing summer freshman orientation (optional) sessions or just orientation after move in only?

HU is indeed doing 2 Summer sessions along with the free orientation in August. @ReturningFavor

What is the minimum score on the math SATs you have to get not to take the placement test? I got a 650 on the math section of the SATs, will I have to take it?

I dont think anything can exempt anyone from answering the placement tests. From yesterday’s webinar, I heard sth like Ap calculus is the only way. But then again, another admin says there is no way. So I dont think we can avoid the test just with SATs. @joyfuljoy

http://coas.howard.edu/placement.html#mp
http://undergraduatestudies.howard.edu/osst/new-student-orientation#summer-orientation

@joyfuljoy The above links read in part:
Students meeting the following criteria are exempt from the Math Placement Exam:

Score of 3 on the Advanced Placement (AP) Calculus AB exam eligible to enroll in Calculus I
Score of 4 or higher on the Advanced Placement (AP) Calculus AB exam will earn credit for Calculus I
Score of 3 on the Advanced Placement (AP) Calculus BC exam will earn credit for Calculus I, eligible to enroll in Calculus II
Score of 4 or higher on Advanced Placement (AP) Calculus BC exam will earn credit for Calculus I and Calculus II

In reading on further, it seems as though the option to get a placement exemption based on ACT/SAT scores is no longer available, as @JustinPon stated. Still, I would bring copies of those scores (as well as of course AP scores) with you to summer and fall orientation.

I know I’m late to this discussion, but I was looking for the automatic scholarship page that used to list Presidential, Trustees, etc, with specific scores and GPA 's, and I can’t find it anymore. Has the scholarship program been discontinued or has it been moved to another part of the website ?
Thank you.

@MYOS1634 the scholarships are no longer automatic. As of this admissions cycle they have become competitive. You can find the scholarship information on this page: https://www2.howard.edu/admission/tuition

Than you.
Do they have a page about them ? I can’t find them. :frowning:

I just added a link to my post. You should see them if you scroll down to the heading: Freshman Scholarships @MYOS1634

Thank-you, couldn’t find that !! It’s changed a lot indeed.

Is the Presidential scholarship like a full ride? Or do you have to pay for other things too?

Presidential and Founders are ‘full rides’: tuition, fees, room, board and a book voucher. You’ll need only spending money and money to get to and from home on breaks. There is also one small fee that is not covered (and if you can’t squeeze all of your books under your voucher amount, you’ll need money for those). These scholarships are tough to get…high gpa and very high ACT/SAT to even be considered. Once there, you must maintain a 3.5/3.3 to keep it. No ‘coasting’ for 4 years. But my guess is that those of you who received these, or are hoping to, wouldn’t be inclined to coast anyway!

@ReturningFavor Thanks!

Have any of you all been accepted into the BSMD program?

@aspiringgirl As of today (though postmarked May 17th), I was officially accepted into Howard’s 6 year BS/MD program. So excited to not be swamped in student debt while becoming a doctor.

@ReturningFavor @partyof5
Thank you for the feedback. This is really stressful. I was recently awarded a few small scholarships, but I still feel I may be in a bind. My dad went on a two year scholarship and insists that I proceed with my choice. This, along with grad school… I may not ever be able to pay my loans. I don’t know what I’ve done

@PreDent101 have you checked the listing of schools that still have openings? There may be some merit opportunities.
