I got a likely letter

i had pretty similar to yrs...2220 SAT, 740, 730, 760 SAT II and 4.0 UW

i want a likely letter, I really want it.

Uh, yeah... I'm sure most people really want it too.

I agree with Byerly - sending likely letters despite a common reply date agreement does seem pretty unfair. But that said, I did get a likely letter in February.

Dartmouth is my top choice, and I'm incredibly excited and I'm 99% sure that I'll be attending (2010 yay!). I attend a large public school (1250 seniors this yr) in a suburb of Dallas. Unfortunately, I won't be going to Dimensions because of a scheduling conflict (and I've spent, collectively, seven weeks at Dartmouth for the past two summers at their debate camp, so I think I have some grasp of the campus/atmosphere/awesomeness) ... but I hope to meet everyone in the fall :)

I'm quite psyched.

So, because I want to procrastinate... My stats:

SAT I: 800 Critical Reading, 800 Writing, 660 Math (I can't count, honestly)
SAT IIs: 800 Spanish, 770 U.S. History, 740 Literature
Rank: 1 out of 124
APs: AP Scholar with Distinction; by the end of the year, I'll have completed eleven courses.
Teacher Recs: We're not allowed to see them, but I assume they were stellar. Pre-slacker days, I was a favorite.
Counselor Rec: Again, we're not allowed to read recommendations. Nevertheless, I hope it was pretty good.
Interview: Excellent.
Extracurriculars: I'm a member of a number of clubs, and I'm captain of the school's Knowledge Bowl team, as well as Chief Editor and co-founder of the school's newspaper. I do a lot of swimming in my free time.
Hook: I'm passionate about journalism-- I was an intern at La Prensa, my country's largest newspaper, and I worked with a USA Today correspondent on a feature story about Daniel Ortega. I'm currently hammering out a story on female convicts, again for La Prensa.
Essays: I wrote one about being an odd duckling in my AP English Lit. class (I was a fourteen-year-old sophomore who had been accelerated into a previously all-senior class.) The other essay was about my experiences with the USA Today correspondent-- following Ortega's campaign trail, the interview itself, etc. My father was jailed by Ortega during the Sandinista regime, so meeting Ortega was a strong emotional and intellectual experience.
Location: In case it wasn't obvious-- Managua, Nicaragua, of Iran-Contra infamy.
Other Thoughts: I have a really wry sense of humor, and I can be obnoxiously cheery.

(I know I´ve reused this post, but... I´m lazy. I´m sorry, I really am.)

Three of my friends at my school got likelies. One is a legacy, one is a URM, and one is Asian. :P

I think i was the only one in my school to get one. I am a URM...but my SAT score was a 2350.so that might have helped

hate you all.

as nicely as possible.

I received a likely letter from Dartmouth a couple of weeks ago, but how likely am I to get in? What sort of things would not allow you to be admitted after getting a likely letter?

1amongmany...i think there is definitely a 99.9% chance of your getting in. I got mine on my birthday(3/13)...the way I see it, why would they waste time, paper, and ink sending you a likely letter if they weren't going to accept you! Don't worry;I really think you're in!!! :)

WASUP!!!!! I am so excited!

so with such a deluge of people getting likely letters, does it mean that those who don't stand a much lower chance of admission? i don't like to be kept in the dark.

Current, this is an 06 thread, except for you and the previous poster.
But 60-70% of acceptees DO NOT get liklies...you figure 300 people got in ED, then 500 get liklies, with an overall accept rate of 15% (guesstimate)
on a pool of 15,700 leaves 69% who haven't heard. I'm not worried, esp. since the liklies are people they def. wanna attract away from HYP.

You live in Singapore? I don't think international applicants get likely letters.

finally someone is honest here.

All of you sound so incredibly desperate and pretentious. Is anyone here normal? All of the posted stats are the same. Hopefully, these schools are looking for some diversity, and not just walking brains. There's a lot to be said for those who are socially aware. Anybody out there?

that would be me zxcvbnm1 I have nowhere near those stats and I got a likely letter

Congrats! Is Dartmouth your first choice? And where else are you considering?

Dartmouth is definitely my first choice! I applied to Yale, Harvard, Stanford, Emory, and Davidson but I'm pretty set on going to Dartmouth. There's definitely hope for you though, one of my counselors at school told me I wouldn't make it into any of the ivies since I didn't have straight A's or a perfect SAT score, and now I'm holding a likely letter and thanking my parents for pushing me to become an Eagle Scout haha

Hey sxcvbnm1:

I'm no where near the SAT range.... I'm just a social person with global ideas and I think that's what Dartmouth seen in me. =) And I'm glad to see (LukasLunacy) that I am not the only one because I have been intimidated by other people's scores... but then again, the scores only matter until the first week of April and then once decisions are final, we are all on the same playing field as our prospective class =)

I'm loving this experience =)
