I got a likely letter

Congratulations to you Deadhead!!

are these still coming or can i at least stop being even a tiny bit curious whenever i open the mailbox?

thanks sybbie; i think they're still coming bc i just got mine today.

to deadhead06: "today" as 3/9 or 3/8?

I got one too.

today as in 3/9, but i got a phone call about dimensions on 3/8 lol

They may be poppin up in mailboxes up until Tuesday. But, I think it will only be a handful more.

YAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Came home from the gym and there it was!!!!!!!

Congrats to all of you who have gotten letters, but this thread is literally making me sick!

Dartmouth was my first choice. I haven't gotten a letter and now I feel really weird about Dartmouth. I can understand why Dartmouth sends them out, but I'm not sure it is really a good idea -- the applicants who receive them are probably the ones most likely to go to HYPS instead of Dartmouth letter or nor letter, and the applicants who don't receive one feel badly towards Dartmouth.

sorry coldcomfort, i felt the same way but it's only a few more weeks, and who knows, your mailbox might surprise you tomorrow (mine was dated only 2 days ago)

-- and I didn't apply to HYPS :)

I wish you the best of luck

I think it's particularly tough for those who read this discussion board, otherwise you wouldn't even know about it.
I would hope that you wouldn't become bitter towards Dartmouth b/c of this. They don't send likelies to offend people. Once official decisions have been mailed, I would hope that this temporary annoyance towards the college will dissipate. B/c in the end it doesn't matter if you received a likely or not, if you get in..you get in.

I received a letter today. 3/10.

I think it's just a bit disheartening. It gives you a bit of the "everyone's special but me" feeling, which is not one that would exactly be described as warm and fuzzy. You want to be happy for everyone who has recieved one, but you also know that you have another three weeks ahead of you before you'll know anything about your own situation.

I certainly understand where coldcomfort is coming from. It's not fun to feel like you're in limbo. But Former SI is right. Most of us never would have known about the whole process if we hadn't read about it here, and the majority of acceptees never get a likely anyway. It's certainly not that Dartmouth has anything against us. We just know a little bit too much for our own good...

Oh well. Indeed, ignorance is bliss.

"I would hope that you wouldn't become bitter towards Dartmouth b/c of this. They don't send likelies to offend people."

while this is true, i cant help but agree with the ill feelings that coldcomfort feels. i got accepted as an AMS to colgate, and didnt get a likely to dartmouth. its almost as if i wouldnt mind going to colgate over the dart because colgate has like recognized my "academic excellence" or whatever, and awarded me with this awesome opportunity. whereas with dartmouth, while they couldve sent me something to recognize said excellence, they didnt send it to me, but to others who apparently they felt were more 'qualified' than me.

whatever.

Wooohooo Got One Today!

I got a likely letter. Yay

who wants to be second choice?
if they don't send flowers they don't deserve you.

I can definitely understand the feelings expresse. But, some people are at the top of the pile, but they don't get a likely b/c their application is read later.
I would hope that you would make the decision based on what's the best fit for you for 4 years. Not the 6 weeks of waiting for a likely letter.

then Dartmouth should abandon the practice. It is no secret and implies a ranking within the accepted pool. And while disguised as a salve for the long wait, is only a sales pitch based on their own insecurity within the ivies. Those who hear early are of course liberated, those who hear nothing will feel like beggars,..I say throw back their coins! Better to be loved by an ugly woman with a good heart than by a spoiled beauty(in the long run)

Yay, I got mine today too. After kind of a depressing day at school. I've been walking around thinking it a dream. LoL
