They send likely letters as they come to applications of people who are guaranteed to be admitted. I don't know if applying early would mean you are read earlier or not. Heck, if they only start reading them after Jan 1, maybe they do it by region, or by alphabetical order, or by no order at all ^_^ Yeah, that's probably it.

No order's better...maybe then they'll get my update before reviewing my app :) or not :(

...... sounds like they send out likely letters without considering mid-year report? Am I right?

I think someone posted that they the call the school just to do a quick check. At least for me, it seems as if the interview didn't really count, because I got my likey letter from Dartmouth two days after I had my interview.

"I think someone posted that they the call the school just to do a quick check."

tchaikovsky, what are you referring to? Congrats!

Oh, I was talking about how someone said on the thread that Dartmouth calls the high school to check an applicant's grades just to make sure nothing is amiss before sending out the likely letter.

Thanks, tchaikovsky!

tell me why I feel like an oldhead....and Im a 09 dang...good luck to the ten's and enjoy it....

Whooo I got a lilkely Letter

congratulations

how many likely letters will they send out?

Oh well... no likely letter here--- I guess the 34 ACT, 8 AP classes, 780 Math 2 C, 740 Physics and 4.0 GPA was not impressive.... I just wish my d's guidance dept had told her not to put energy into ACT...

I feel sure she could have upped her 2160 SAT on a second sitting.., but we wasted time prepping for ACT ... It's so hard to know what to do..... We tried our best.

My contratulations to everyone here who received likely letters... you have wonderful futures ahead !! :)

If both ACT and SAT are submitted, and the SAT is equivalently higher than the ACT, would the adcom ever see the ACT scores (esp, when the sci. is low!)? And what were your ecs for those who got likelies?

They most likely see all the scores. A 34 ACT is roughly equivalent to a 1510 old SAT. If an ACT score is lower than the SAT, you probably should not send it (look at the equivalency chart...). My d's ECs were strong but not outstanding-- she spent a lot of time on art projects, art volunteer work and teaching the mentally retarded-- very time consuming but probably not what they were looking for in terms of sports or politics.
Well,-- perhaps a regular decison envelope will appear in the mail .... we still love Dartmouth...

I had sent in both my ACT and SAT, because I was under the assumption that Dartmouth would only take into consideration the scores that best reflect the applicant. (I filled in the "send scores to these schools" bubbles when I signed up for the ACT so I didn't know at the time what my score would be anyway) fingers crossed

hey what state are you from...so there's still a chance for us to get one i suppose

I'm from PA. Unless the postman is playing an evil joke on me, i think i'll be waiting until the end of March/early April. Where are you from?

im from florida and whenever things are mailed out like report cards and things like that I'm always the LAST person to receive them so idk I shouldn't get my hopes up but I think there's still time...probably until middle of next week or so.

hey guys i just talked to the admissions office and a woman told me that a lot of students that are qualified enough for a likely letter won't get one because some applications still have yet to be completely processed...especially if anything was sent in late. she said don't stress if you don't receive a likely letter so don't worrrry we'll all be fine.

I just got a likely letter! I can't believe it!...I live in south texas btw
