I Got Admitted to UT today!

depends on when you applied. if you applied early admission then you should be hearing back December 15. If not, then you should be hearing back in April.

S applied in early October and was accepted about a week later. He is OOS and in top 10%, 33ACT, 3.9 GPA. He is still waiting to hear about acceptance into business school.

What is his class rank? That is the kicker for the business school. They start at 1% and work their way down until they fill 75% of the class with instate kids (usually around 3% or so). Your son, oos, will be part of the 25%, and his class rank will be a huge factor in whether he gets in the business school or not.

If he doesn't, he shouldn't have a problem doing an inschool transfer after his freshman year. With his gpa and ACT score, he is obviously a good student, and if he makes mostly A's, he can get into McCombs pretty easily.

i applied for dec 1 deadline, is that early? and would i hear on dec 15? I'm in top 10 percent and this is the message I got:

We've received all the items that are required to review and process your application. The Admissions Committee is currently reviewing your application for admission. Once we reach a decision you'll be notified by mail and your decision will be posted on this page.

Because you're a leading applicant, we have good news about your admission to The University of Texas at Austin. Your excellent record allows us to guarantee your admission to UT Austin so that you can begin making plans for your enrollment. Learn more about your admission and find out what to do next to begin your Longhorn experience.

So I'm in? and when will I found out what major I got accepted to?

You'll get a letter from the college that you are admitted to when they decide. It will depend on which one you're trying to get into and what their admission procedures are. In my son's case, he was top 1% so he heard from the business school pretty quickly. If you are around 4% and up, it may be a while until they determine who is in the 75% of the incoming class (business school). If it is another college (Communications, Engineering, etc.) they will have their own admission procedures. Look on their webpages regarding admissions, it may be spelled out.

woo hoo, I just found out I'm accepted. First choice - Biochem. :]

Congratulations to you acolombianp28...hope you enjoy your college life as a Longhorn!

thanks! now I have to decide on housing.

Has anyone received a UT shirt? I've already ben accepted and today received a shirt in the mail with a congratulations card from my admissions counselor. I thought it was a nice touch...

Did he apply for a special, early program?

MidwestMom2Kids_

He applied to McCombs and the BHP. S is in a very competitive public school with many people with 4.0 GPA. He is around the 8-9% class rank range! Applied early Oct!

That is a great ACT score, but his rank is kind of low for BHP. From what I've heard, it will really help if his activities are "business related" like Finance Club or summer sessions/interning in business related activity.

Just to give you some background on my reasoning. My son was a valedictorian with a 31 ACT, with tons of leadership and extracurriculars but was rejected from BHP, but is in the business school applying for the MPA. His good friend was also ranked #1, with the same exact ACT, but was involved in business heavy extracurriculars (National Academy of Finance and did a summer college program in investment banking), and she was accepted. His roommate, who is OOS, was a valedictorian, NMF, and was rejected, he's now working on an MIS major.

From talking to her recently (she's a sophomores), most of the people that are in BHP with her were ranked really high up there and had a shown "marked interest" in business related things during high school, whether it be as a member of Academy of Finance, an investment club, or the like.

This is all purely anecdotal though with kids who entered in '07, so your son's situation may be totally different.

UHSdebater..you got a shirt? lucky..

I only got a letter saying i was accepted

yeah, same with me. I want to feel loved...the closest I get is students calling my house asking me if I have any questions about UT...

i was accepted to the Cockrell school for mechanical engineering, Honors program hasn't sent me a decision yet. any estimates on when they will do so?

Anyone know when the NON top-10% will find out if they got accepted?
I'm top 14% and I sent in my app for Liberal Arts in early September.

non top-10% should be hearing a decision around march

i don't think honors decisions come out until march (for engineering)

if you applied early september you should be hearing back by december 15th

that sounds about right....

in november i got admitted to a college i applied for in august...
and it has the same % acceptance rate as ut...
