I think they accept all the top 10% people first. I got my decision in early December. And I got my admission to Plan II about a week ago. But usually you don't find out who gets in where until April...

No, they are right on time--mid March to late March.

Timing doesn't matter because no matter when you apply you are still considered equally and still get notification by April 1.

However, if they are certain you will get in or certain you won't, they could and will inform you early.

Also, Plan II has apparently sent out denials now, so I'm assuming all Plan II applicants should get some kind of a decision very soon.

is it bad if i applied on november 25th and havent heard back yet?

btw 3.6/4.4 770 M, 700 R, 730 W
good ecs good essays good recs

well I don't know what 3.6/4.4 means since you haven't given any rank. UT DOES NOT LOOK AT YOUR GPA! They only care about what your class rank is.

Your SAT score is very good for UT. Good ECs and Good essays will help you if you've evaluated yourself accurately. UT does not care about good recs. They don't enter them into the formula as far as I know. Some honors programs look at them, but general freshman admissions does not.

But no, don't be worried. If you don't hear by April 1, then I'd be worried.

is that true, that they only look at class rank? mine is not exactly the best, i'm in the top 12% out of 656 students. my school isn't supposed to be doing class rank this year but according to my status on ut's website my rank is 73/656. my uw gpa is 3.4 though. do you think i still have a chance?

If your school doesn't do class rank then they calculate one based on your GPA. However, that sounds like an exact rank so you may want to talk to your guidance counselor about that.

12% is a little low for OOS, but if your other stats are decent you should do fine.

I'm glad you said, "However, if they are ...certain you won't, they could and will inform you early."
Because I was beginning to think that if they know you won't get in, they'll wait until the last few weeks to reject you.

So I guess I still have a chance of getting in...?

Btw, do you think the admissions people have spring breaks? so like no body will hear this week or whatever? lol.. just curious

My school does not rank. Could that be a reason why it is taking this long?

Their admissions format means that they usually must wait until the very end for rejections.

I do not know anyone who is obviously unqualified who applied to UT, so I can't say whether they would get a faster rejection letter or not.

If you school doesn't rank, it can take longer to process as they have to look at your grades and school profile and determine where you should rank. That is likely a big cause of the delay.

hey loneranger..
does UT reject people at the last minute?? I'm starting to get worried, especially since we have like a week left..
I don't think my being unranked would cuz a delay this long.. TT__TT

Well I've heard that some OOS people have already got rejections. I'm assuming they are just working through as fast as they can. They say you aren't guaranteed to hear until April 1.

I believe that if you are unranked they do ALL the other applications first and then process yours, but I'm not sure. For this reason, Texas public schools are the only schools my high school releases rank for. For all others, we don't rank.

I'm OOS and I haven't heard of anything yet. hopefully I don't get rejected and hopefully I hear by the weekend :/

So if they did do what you said,
does that mean that OOS unranked students are at a huge disadvantage?

No, it just means that you must wait until the end of the period to hear.

They take all of the info and plug it in on a graph. But if they can tell from your position that you will be in, they let you know. It's really only borderline kids that have to wait.

But if they process you last, then you will be notified last.

My school doesn't rank and I am OOS; I heard back relatively quickly, about 2.5-3 weeks after the application deadline.

So no, OOS unranked students are not at a "huge disadvantage."

Hang in there, less than 2 weeks till April 1!

Did you apply for honors and/or have an amazing resume?

theloneranger--I don't know if you're asking me or another poster, but yes, I applied for LAH, Plan II, and BHP. I got into Plan II in late February, but have yet to hear from LAH (assuming I'm in) and BHP (had an interview 2 weeks ago).

I wouldn't say my resume was AMAZING but I'd say it was good. I think my overall application, not just my resume, was all around strong, seeing that I was accepted in the time frame that I was.

If you got in to Plan II in late February, that is the reason you heard back early.

They fast track the applications for the kids who get in honors because they know they will get in to the university.

The resume meant resume+grades for OOS, but as you were accepted to honors that wasn't the reason.

Applying to Honors is a good way to hear back early...

Maybe, but I think I heard back from Plan II much earlier than when the "wave" of Plan II decisions went out.

Also, I'm not sure if this is true, but I think that it's quite possible for an applicant to be admitted into Plan II but not into UT? I don't know, I find that very interesting.

I think overall the stronger you are as an applicant, the faster they will be able to reach a decision and let you know.

But bottom line everyone will know by April 1st UT's decisions.

It is possible if you have such a low class rank that UT can't accept you. I know someone who is 30/41 at his school, which is an amazing school and very competitive, who has already gotten in to Plan II but has not actually heard back from UT. This is contradictory to almost all applicants, so he thinks he got CAPped or Summer Admission at UT>. If he doesn't get in, he's planning on appealing saying that if he got in to Plan II he should be qualified enough to succeed at UT.

But as a general rule, if you are accepted to honors, you hear back very soon after getting in to honors.
