i have a 4.5 cuz they already started weighted courses in freshman year, but i suspect it will be going down because i'm almost sure my spanish grade will end up as a B :( ah well. u get to take latin? lucky, i wish i could. our language department is a mess these days, we only have two spanish teachers and two french teachers! next year i'll be taking chemistry honors, trig/precalc honors, AP US history honors, english II honors, and spanish IV. how's latin? i've always wanted to try

Latin stinks. I have a 96 average, god knows how though =]. Our anguage department is insane idk why its odd. Ahh I'm psyched for weighted courses next year they'll be a huge help especially APs. I have an A+ in spanish so if you ever need any help its like my god given gift lol I like it almost as much as I love English, they're my Two A+s lol
What kind of school do you go to? Public, private, catholic, anything like that?

i got to a public school. Gahhh how are your teachers? I always do well in spanish, but my teacher is just god awful. She says that she'll give us 10 points of extra credit for every bag of candy we bring in to her. it's ridiculous. i know a girl who has a 110% because she brings a bag of candy in every day. and it doesn't help that my teacher only gives us busy work that we barely comprehend. ugh. i really like the rest of my teachers thoug, how are yours?

I go to a private school. its kind of like Hotchkiss, but not quite as good. My teacher was amazing but she had to leave for the rest of the year because she had a baby. So we have this man that always wears tweed and his name is Mr. Cassetori that sounds so much like Chicken Catchetori and its really embarassing to think that in class. I like most of my teachers, some of them are pretty odd. My bio teacher is British and hes absolutely insane. And 110%? Thats crazy. We aren't allowed to have more than 100% averages in class its stupid.

exactly, that's what i said. my public school is like a jail, nobody cares about college and most of the teachers don't care either. i'm desperate to get out and find a new escape, the only reason i'm thinking of staying behind is because of my friends who've been with me since elementary school. but hotchkiss was just so amazing i knew i had to go u know? is your private school boarding?

a question for a hotchkiss student-
would you recommend a single or double room for prep year?

Preps are almost entirely in doubles, so that's what you're most likely to have. Luckily, it's also what I would recommend. Having a room mate means that for the first few weeks when you're trying to meet new people, you have a built-in friend which makes socializing and leaving the room a lot easier :)

Its half boarding and half day, because our campus is surrounded by a town. I switched here in seventh grade to the lower school, and then continued on to the high school, so my ties aren't nearly as tight. Its not as hard as you might think. I was at my old school for eight years, until sixth grade, and the switch was only tough the last week of school and the first week of new school. And I totally get the whole 'had to go' thing. I feel the same way, like I'll be wasting an opportunity if I dont go.

o wow, that's cool. so are you boarding?

Yeah but my mom/dad make me come home on weekends because its so close. Another reason I'm looking forward to Hotchkiss: not having to go home. Do you think class president would help me in being accepted? Because I'm running an I'm in the top four, so all we have left is the final vote to see who gets what position. I'm scared!!

good luck knealon :D

right, coming home on the weekends must be pain, not seeing your parents i mean, but having to move back and forth. i recently won Sophmore Class President against five others but that's because i was class prez for freshman class. i dunno, it can't hurt in putting it on your app! i'm sure you'll win!:)

Thanks NMH =]. Jin, I was wayy to afraid to run for freshman class president because I only knew the kids from the lower school. THe class size more than doubled with people I didn't know so there was no way I was going to get up there lol And the seeing my parents is definitely a pain, theyre getting divorced right now so its just a constant blah blah blah your mother this blah blah blah. I dont even listen anymore =D. And congrats on Sophomore class President! Ohh and everyone who sees this can just call me Katie because knealon sounds like the most ridiculous thing ever.

To the question about prep dorm rooms:

a lot of preps do have roommates this year. not majority but still a lot.
they send you a roommate form before you arrive so if you request one they'll probably give you a roommate, or you could get a day student roommate, which is completely different....

honestly, you probably won't want to request a roommate- you're not guaranteed to get a long and also, later in your prep year when your settled down, the privacy will be worth it.

would it be best to have a day student for a roommate?

4square... I don't think day students have dorms... that wouldn't make much sense. They sleep at home. Well, maybe at Hotchkiss they do, but it seems kind of bizarre. I know it is possible for a day student to sleep over though.

I think a day student roommate is when A day student roommate just keeps their stuff in the room because there are no lockers at Hotchkiss, Cookie.

A few questions:

How tough is the Prep English course at Hotchkiss? English is a second language for my son, so... He is interested in taking English/History combined course but I am not sure whether it will be too tough for him.

He has completed Honors Pre-Calculus from EPGY, and AP Calculus AB & AP Chemistry from CTY distance education courses. Do they accept course credits from EPGY/CTY? If so, he can focus more on English, Sports and Club activities for the Prep year.

Thanks!

didn't hotchkiss erect two new dorm buildings?

Not sure, actually. I know they have twelve, right?
