Interviews

Im getting an interview sometime this week, and I was wondering how much it really counts towards admission.

who cares, just do you're best like you did the last four years (I'm assuming....)

who cares? I care man...I want to know how much the interview makes a difference. Duh im not gonna screw it up, but i just needed some info

then don't screw it up.

ok, it doesn't count THAT much. but a HORRIBLE interview will keep you out, while the absolute BEST one the interviewer's had in his entire carrer will get you in, maybe. so it counts....there, is that what you wanted?

i was just saying, do your best. you know what they want, a young intellectual that can express his ideas with sounds, not just words. be affable, be confident, be talkative, look at them in the face, joke with them, ask about their kids. it should be just like any conversation you've ever had with an educated adult. so if you've had that experience, you know what to do.

yeah thats what i wanted...

Has anyone noticed that Princeton interviews are about ten times longer than other colleges'? Mine was two and a half hours!

I was just wondering if it was a trend...?

2.5 hours????!!!!!!!!!!????!??!?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!???!?!! thats insane! thats almost as long as LOTR

yeah, its almost as long as HALF of LOTR...that movie was so long (but so good)

A well-regarded alum's good word could probably help a bit more. In general, interviews are there to help the applicant. It's not a life-or-death thing in the college process like writing good essays or taking the SATs.

actually, my P-ton interview was pretty short--about 1/2 hour to 45 minutes. I think it depends on the interviewer, because mine specifically said before we even started talking that it would only take about 30 minutes or so. I guess other interviewers like to spend more time, so it's different for each applicant. I think this variation indicates that the interviews are probably not crucial to the application--just another way for the student and school to learn more about each other.

I think I read somewhere that they are usually 1.5 hrs in length. Mine was about an hour but then I got nervous and kind of dragged it out a little.... awkward silences :p anyway. I'm sure everybody else have the senses to not do that ;)

Oh, and I think they want get to know you a little better from the interviews. They provide informations that the application may not cover. So show your passions, enthusiasm, social graces, etc.

God, mine was terrible!! My interviewer was just a jackass, no offense, but he just walked in, told me it'd take twenty minutes or less, and started typing up the reflection form (that he's supposed to fill out afterwards) as I was talking. Way to put me at ease! His first out of, oh, only three questions was where else I was applying, and what my first choice was. What the heck?!?! Then he ended the interview with a self-righteous and really wierd, contradictory speech about snobby people and the ivies.

It was horrible.

And he graduated from Princeton? LOL

omg that dude has problems.... going against the book in every possible eh? hmm... excuse me while I go Freud on him...... ;)

I have my interview this week, too. I'm having it at the person's home in the evening.
So far, the interview lengths for various colleges have been:
20 min, 30 min, 45 min, 60 min, 90 min. and princeton supposed to be 30 min.

I absolutely LOVED my Princeton interviewer. She was so~ AMAZING and wonderful. She asked me what I like to do during my free time, and I told her I loved cooking and eating Croatian food. Just happens, she's Croatian!

She gave me a good idea of what Princeton is like, and I'm beginning to fall even deeper in love... <3 <3 <3

that is one HELLUVA coincedence...darn u were lucky...btw croatian girls are supposed to be the hottest in the world ;)

My interviewer was cool. I told him that I listen to underground extreme metal and he went on about how he spent a year in Germany travelling around and going to hardcore/punk festivals.
