Is UCI so much to ask?

dasher...are u fricking serious?? you're like the only person i know that thinks uci is better than ucsd...

wow this little debate is getting interesting, maybe just maybe itll keep me entertained until i get my results. someone should keep scores haha

Do enlighten me on what this "The California Public Education" is?

I would contend that simply because most people are more familiar with San Diego than Irvine, California, most would simply choose UCSD because it's in the bigger city, irrespective of the actuality that UCSD is generally superior to UCI by all accounts.

And refrain from using definitive statements; it makes you seem really unintelligent.

Nobody agrees with your ****tard ideology, except for ucsd students, former and current, and community college students.

If this is your premise, I am sure that I can find at least one other human being who is:

a.) Not a UCSD student

b.) Not a UCSD alumnus

c.) Not a community college student

Who believes UCSD is better than UCI.

This in and of itself concludes the argumentation.

Good day sir.

(To those who are interested in empirics, I'm conducting a survey right now at a website that shall remain nameless as to ensure that solely "mainstream society" people may participate in it and will have the results in twenty minutes as to the percentage who think UCSD is better than UCI.)

You'd be hard pressed to find anyone that thinks UCI is better than UCSD at anything...

As far public institutions go, we only rank behind Berkeley and LA (I'd argue this one). Have one of the best bio programs in the country, and are right smack in the center of the burgeoning bio tech field. One of our professors (Roger Tsien) recently received the nobel prize... UCSD is a science focused school. If you're majoring in most any kind of science, there's really no better place to be...

I'm not really sure what UCI is known for (apart from having a 99% asian student body) but I'm sure you'll enlighten us. :)

if you were able to read, you would know already jacka$$
i already said in what ways irvine is alot better than ucsd, but i didnt say uci is overall a better school

I already said in what ways the sky is blue, but I never said the sky was blue.

cmon guys lets restrict the name calling...we are all adults here, well we are all legal..

Funny, I'm not legal and yet I haven't uttered a bad word. Rather interesting.

dasherwinator,

Have you ever attended a CC? NO. What gives you the right to downplay a 3.8 GPA from a CC? Get off your high horse before you humiliate yourself. Science students are bad at arguing.

okay, sorry to resort to USNEWS, but here are their engineering rankings. I'd rather take their word as a proxy for the "general public" instead of... you know who.

Berkeley

UCSD

UCLA

UCSB

UC Davis
37. UC Irvine

Search - Engineering - Best Graduate Schools - Education - US News and World Report

Am I missing something here?

UCI is far, far better in the humanities, especially in English lit and writing.

I can cite rankings, if you want.

Medicine:

UCSF

UCLA

UCSD
43. UC Irvine

Search - Medical - Best Graduate Schools - Education - US News and World Report

Anyway, it doesn't really matter. UCSD's location alone blows UCI out of the water. I'm not going to argue with you, just don't be so obtuse. Why would you come to the transfer forum and pull this

You guys sound like community college students! oh wait......oops

[/quote]

???

Shouldn't you be studying?

I see you're not going to respond to what I just wrote. However, I too can list other things in which Irvine surpasses SD.

Did you know that UCI is opening a law school next fall which has already been ranked among the top 10 law schools in the country in terms of scholarly impact?

Have you happened to hear about the stem cell research going at UCI? The first FDA approved treatment stem cell treatment was created by a UCI researcher.

How is the location better?

Wasn't the original point that UCI is just as difficult to get into as UCSD? I thought that's what it was. For some reason I was curious. Considering the statistics I found over the past few years UCI has accepted on average 7-13% more of those applied than UCSD. It is likely that UCI assumes they will retain less applicants than UCSD (maybe because of their location). Either way, it appears it is easier to be accepted at UCI. Additionally, of all the people I have heard talk about UCI and UCSD, I have never heard anyone argue that UCI is "better" than UCSD.

That being said, even with all that I have heard one way or the other, I cannot say which school is "better." It is not within my direct experience. Nor are you likely to get any information that is useful about such an idea from a person who has attended either one or the other, but not both.

sndebrosse's ( or dasherwinator, same person) motives are all too clear when you look at the stats. From "the Official Countdown and Acceptances Thread UCSD 2012"

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-california-san-diego/474043-official-countdown-acceptances-thread-ucsd-2012-a-15.html#post1059955319

Just let it go.

sndebrosse,

I will acknowledge the fact that UCI surpasses UCSD in several departments. But dasherwinator claimed that UCSD is only better than UCI in Biology and Biotechnology. The rankings that I posted are to prove THAT otherwise, not that UCSD is a better school.

And yes, La Jolla is exponentially more pleasant than Irvine. gasp

Criminology:

UC Irvine, #4 nationally

Psychology:

UC Irvine and SD tied at #16

English:

UC Berkeley

UCLA
16. UC Irvine

UCD

UCSB

UCSD

Creative Writing:

UC Irvine is consistently in the top 5. Last year, I believe it ranked #2. The MFA program has proved a number of highly successful and well known writers.

My point is simply that, as an overall school, UCSD is not far ahead.

Note: I posted this before seeing your last post.
