D will be attending a school which doesn't register for freshman term until late Aug. But many of her friends have already registered for their freshman classes and "that's all they now talk about". This was making my D a bit anxious that she had "missed something" and should have already registered.

Just curious which schools register before students get on campus? Some even registered in June before hs graduation! And do you have a consultation with an advisor before you register? Future applicants might find this info helpful....

Yea i registered at the beginning of June. I went to one of the earliest orientations so i could get it over with. I graduated June 5 went to Orientation June 10-11.

Your D might be able to register online, try and see. Yes you do have an advisor helping you, at my orientation they only made sure we knew the process. We registered for 1 class and did the rest when we got home.

I didn’t have a clue as to what classes i wanted to take, So i followed the sample schedule.(pretty much all basics)

Yup upperclassmen usually register around March/April then freshmen register during their orientation or pre-orientation event which can be during the months of June and September. I know some freshmen at Purdue registered since late June/early July.

D got stuck in the last orientation session at the end of August, so has not registered yet, even though kids in the first four orientations already got to pick their classses. The orientation people assured us that they reserve classes for the last group, so hopefully she’ll still be able to get a decent schedule.

I can’t register for another 2.5 weeks. >< We have an allotted registration period. Before then, we can only pick out possible classes and hope they’re open when registration rolls around.

I registered in April for next year. Before freshman year, I registered during my orientation in June, and I think it’s the norm to register during orientation. But yes, they reserve seats for the last orientation groups so she shouldn’t miss out.

Current students (ie rising sophomores and up) register before the spring semester ends, with a system in place partly based on how many credits you have and partly random.

Freshmen at my school register in the summer based on what school they’re in. If artsci, they can either go to an artsci weekend during the summer or wait until orientation in august to register. Engineers register in late july from home (this year it’s split between 6 random groups and they’ll register on different days, because of how large the incoming class is). I don’t know how the art school and business school work, but they might register over the summer as well.

Edit: freshmen orientation is the few days before classes start.

Incoming frosh at my college register during orientation in August, a week before classes start. (Small school, so there’s a single orientation session for everyone.)

For us, upperclassmen register in April, and incoming freshmen register late May/all June (in allotted windows online–“orientation” is integrated with their first week at school), then come July 16, everyone can access it again to move around classes.

At my school I am pretty sure they run orientation through July and August, with some kids doing it right before move in. I got to register in the second week of July my first year. In order to register the first time I had to meet with an adviser, but I had already picked my classes and had them written down, my registration just wasn’t open until I got it approved.

If your D is worried, I am sure there is an adviser with his email address posted somewhere on the school’s website that she can ask, or some other contact info. I’d be worried too, I worried about everything up until classes started.
