Ivy applicants: how many subject tests are you taking?

Well I took one freshman year, one sophomore year and two yesterday, so my testing has been pretty spread out. Those four all coincided with academic topics that I was currently learning in school so it didn’t require excessive additional preparation to take the SAT IIs.

I’m planning on taking another 2 in June so I can study for them while studying for finals and possibly 2 more in October if I feel like it.

^^kameron: I don’t believe all schools acknowledge score choice for the SAT II. There are schools that require SAT II scores and also don’t acknowledge score choice. This includes some of the Ivies.

I was under the impression that almost all top tier schools let you select which SAT Subject Tests you want to send as long as the required amount is met.

@Jersey13: Either that’s true, or we’re both sharing the same delusion.

On a completely random topic, I can’t believe I won’t be graduating till 2012… I really should get off these forums.

not non-scorechoice schools like yale or upenn.

HAHA! i did not realize my account name is similar to another guy’s. actually, my first chocie was “newaccount” but they said no, so i added an extra t.

would 700s hurt? like 730s, 720s, 710s…if you already have 750+ on four, would you guys send the other lower ones?

I would only send the 3 highest.

Really? You noticed that they made you chose a different name, but didn’t think that someone else already had that name? Why did you think they made you change it? XD

Jersey, unfortunately you can’t use score choice for SATIIs either if the school doesn’t accept the policy.

[Yale Daily News - No choice on scores](http://www.yaledailynews.com/news/university-news/2009/01/16/no-choice-on-scores/)

(Sorry I’m jumping in the middle of this thread, but I just logged in, went to the “lastest posts” link, and this one happened to be on top :P)

@xrCalico23: I wasn’t aware of that. I’m guessing it actually varies from school to school (I cited Stanford).

Perhaps this would be a useful list/thread to make…

^haha, that may be a great idea, except I’m way too lazy tonight.

Aw, Yale may see a 790 and an 800 on the same subject test then :(

Well, I’m sure they’ll see a huge difference between a 790 and a 800.

(I’m sure they would love to see either of these scores, but idk how they’ll feel about seeing both).

Obviously. Studies have shown that two zeros in a three digit number are infinitely more aesthetically pleasing than one, especially to adcoms.

Also depends on on which digits the zeros are placed, I guess…

^^Of course, that’s why a 600>>790.

Failed attempts at jokes aside, a friend of mine who intends to apply to some of the top tier colleges (HYPSM, etc.) was wondering how 770s and 780s look. Should she retake them?

Seriously, I know this is CC, but let’s not retake 750+ on subject tests. I can’t see adcoms liking a retake of a 770 or 780. It’s a question or two, which is definitely within the margin of error. Spend your morning doing something better :)

And this is coming from someone who retook a 2250 for a 2330.

Taking 3. Done with them now. I wouldn’t retake if I got over a 700.
I mean honestly lol. It’s a one hour subject test. Retaking them just seems neurotic.

That’s what I told her as well; however, as a USNCO and USPhO Semifinalist who received a 780 and 770 respectively on the corresponding subject tests, she seemed rather concerned. That said, she has three 800’s (math, ush, lit), so I don’t see any reason for her to retake.

I took 3: World History, Bio, and Lit. But thank God Harvard only needs two!

Question: If I suck at math, and I take Math I and do well, but don’t take Math II, will that be frowned upon at top schools? I’m taking Math I as a soph this year, as well as World History. Next year, I am surely taking Biology and US History SAT II’s and MAYBE math II if I’m up for the task. I don’t think 3 will be good though, especially math II being the 3rd. I don’t want to completely bomb it.
