*January 2010 SAT Thread*

I’d take a look at the “featured” thread in the SAT Section about Critical Reading. It’s kind of a compilation of basic techniques, might be helpful.

Quick question: If your scores in all 3 sections are in the low 700’s (May '09 SAT breakdown - 690 CR + 700 M + 730 W = 2120 total; Oct. '09 PSAT breakdown - 72 CR + 71 M + 73 W = 216 total), how difficult would it be to raise them all to at least mid-700’s? :/

Has everyone got your exam ticket yet? You know exactly where to go and when to go and all that for the SAT? I just got a confirmation from College board right after i signed up which is some time ago, nothing since then. should i be worried?

^ I haven’t gotten anything except a confirmation either. I think it should come soon. I hope. :)

did anyone get the exam ticket? Let me know if you did.
Also, i have another questions - are SATs computerized??? I didn’t think so but someone told me they are. very confused.

Haven’t had an admission ticket emailed to me yet. But you can print your admission ticket from their website.

No, SATs are not computerized. It is a paper-based test. Thank god. I think I’d fail if it was computer based.

What’s this “Practice the SAT”? They pay you money if you get the highest score?

Thanks for answering my q.
another urgent one - do you know if we need a graphic calculator for the sat, or a simple one will do? how do the proctors work? do they remind you a few min. before the time is up?.. I’m getting very jittery here.

I would wholeheartedly recommend a graphing calculator, but nothing says you need one. The entire test can be done with a calculator, but keep in mind, you will make less mistakes with a calculator than without one.

yeah sure. Thanks.
How do you guys feel when you think about Jan.23???

I’m taking it. The goal is a 2300+

shmluza- i get terrified!
but i guess i need to calm down :S

my aim’s to reach 2000

same ^ first and only time taking it. Terrified.

u guys, how’s ur mental state at the moment?
the 23rd’s nearing! ugh, i’m so nervous, its not even funny.
it’s my first time, and i reallyyy wanna reach 2000. i’d be euphoric if i do.
but im just so nervous right now.

how are you guys feeling?

and, do u guys have any valuable tips for me?

i took the SAT on 7 November 2009

so about two months ago

got 2230, which was quite lower than what I expected

So, two months later, I’m aiming for 2350+,

although I don’t seem to have improved at all

anyway,

good luck to everyone!

Please let me know of you can send it to me. You can also benefit from what I got too in terms of gift exchange for other exams.

^Oooh, I’m looking for that QAS as well.

On another note, I’m hecka nervous and feeling not ready at all. I’m afraid I’m going to get a 10 on the essay and then miss one/two on the Writing and not get an 800 . . . thus crushing my goal of 2400. : \ And I’m also afraid of the freaking vocabulary of CritRead, because I always fail at vocab.

I’m just hoping that everything’s easy, and an average curve would be good too. That’s how I got a 240 on my PSAT.

After I finish all of my official SAT practice tests, which company’s practice tests do you guys suggest I do? PR/Kaplan/Barron/etc?

I’m sooo nervous and I have very little time to study this week and next week bc it’s finals week luckily last finals on wensday so I plan on taking a practice test we’d Thursday andfriday I’m a junior aiming for 1500/1600 as a dream grrrr how do I not make the two or or careless mistakes in math tht keeps me from an 800 I’d still b happy with anything 1450+ though

I am sooooo nervous too, and there’s so much school work to do that there’s very little time for studying. My math section is reallyy holding my score down, and I can’t seem to bring it up (just a whole bunch of stupid errors, every single time. grrrr).

Should we do the “three score-prediction” thing? (ideal score; probable score; low-end score)

relax, people!

I think it’s very important to sleep well before the exam. don’t drink coffee if you’re not used to it. what else should we be reminding everyone? Snacks? calculator? pencils? should we bring pencil sharpner?

Good luck, everyone!!!
