Just got a large envelope out of the mail -

Sorry, just realized my confusion. W&M Admissions person clearly stated all remaining decisions are sent via email. Panicked too soon re possible snail mail notification. Sorry. Back to regularly scheduled programme.

Thanks Skydancer  I’m rather superstitious, so I haven’t been able to wear the really comfortable William and Mary sweatshirt my dad got me for Christmas yet. I’m wearing it now and its so cozy  I’m just so grateful for the timing of it all as well-- I’m playing for the pit band for my high school musical “Merrily We Roll Along” tonight, and there’s this song with a terrific piccolo solo that I love to play called “Opening Doors.” And… well… doors have been opened for me today

Re VAMom: Monroe is wonderful, but W&M Scholars is equally terrific because of the money involved.

I totally agree! She’s happy & very excited. Don’t want to make it sound like she is not grateful. My husband and I are beyond thrilled because our FAFSA EFC= $26k

She said today that this is like a dream. She was just praying that she would be accepted, this is awesome!

Wish we could cancel the other apps with the decisions that do not come out until April 1st. The super reach schools for her.

I got the envelope today! I wasn’t expecting to get one let alone both of the scholars designations. This makes me a little less wary of the rest of the decisions coming out in April. Congrats to everyone else who got the envelope too!

Got in out of state(TX) W&M scholar, probably helped that my teacher who wrote my rec went to W&M

I’m a W&M scholar as well (from VA). I received the packet yesterday. When I read the letter, I didn’t even know a W&M Scholar Award existed. When I looked it up, I was so surprised. Wow, free tuition… receiving the scholarship definitely makes W&M a strong contender. I’ll have to see how much FA other schools are willing to offer, esp. my current top choice school.

I got a letter too! Monroe Scholar from Georgia

There was a typo in my W&M essay, and it’s driven me crazy all year. I guess they forgave me haha

2011VAMom,

Congratulations to your daughter, and her parents for the great award. You really are very fortunate and should be very proud.

We have a similar EFC to your own. My DD is in the top 5% of her class, and top 2% for test scores. She has received no Monroe Scholarship, and no W&M Scholarship (she is not a minority and hasn’t endured any special significant hardship, although we do think she is special in her own way!). We will be taking out loans, increasing our debt-load and scrimping and saving to help her make it through college. And we are happy to do it, because our daughter is thrilled to be going to W&M and we are confident that she will be getting a great education.

Anyway, best of luck to you, all scholarship recipients and all W&M15ers, and Go Tribe!

D applied for the Wm & Mary/St Andrews programme. Anyone here apply for that and get a response yet?

got the Monroe Scholar and William&Mary Scholar. Woot

Congrats yoceyo! Out of curiosity, what are your academic stats?

Thanks Tribeparent. All the best to your daughter as well! She certainly sounds impressive.

I totally agree that W&M would be worth the $ either way. It’s a great school.

2011VAMom: Thanks, and we’re In state…

Yoceyo: Wow, congrats on all your great accomplishments! Hopefully you will decide to definitely attend W&M.

Does anyone have the exact dates for the scholar weekend? Letter indicates weekend of April 16th, which is the admitted student day. If the Monroe Scholars have opportunity to attend classes, I assume it will include either Friday or Monday.

If the exact dates are available, it would really help us so we can plan our visit!

Daughter was accepted (Monroe Scholarship) by snail mail today. We live in Los Angeles. Happy Saturday – what a wonderful surprise!

I’ve been reading this while I was away all weekend hoping there was something waiting for me in the mail when I get home, and there was! Monroe Scholar.

Whew. This thread has doubled since Friday morning. Again, congrats to everyone who has received the big envelope! As it said, “you’re cool” and we know it! Will try to address some of the more recent questions.

2011VAMom: yes, students not admitted into the Monroe Program as incoming freshman could become Monroes. Certain freshman (normally the top students in the freshman class) are invited to apply for the program and can become Monroes as sophomores. Keep in mind that non Monroes have access to research money through the Charles Center.

As for Monroe Weekend, it begins at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 16 at the conclusion of Day for Admitted Students and ends at noon on Sunday, April 17. There are mock lectures for students and parents on Sunday and there are mock lectures as part of Day for Admitted Students. If a student wants to come early on Friday they can sit in on an actual class but that’s not a formal part of either program.

Classof2015: St Andrews decisions will not be released until after W&M decisions are released. They will be released about one week after all W&M decisions are released (so likely second week of April).

W&M Admission, is there anywhere online where I could access the information about Monroe weekend? I thought I wouldn’t be able to come because my high school generally does not excuse absences for college visits, but if it starts at 4:30 Sat. and ends on noon Sunday I could take the train down on Sat and back to NJ on Sunday without missing a full day of school.

bandgeek, if there is not information about it in your admission letter then you will receive information in a separate mailing sent this week from the Monroe Program’s direct. We cannot put the website here because this is a public forum and we don’t want to publicize the site to those not invited. If you want you can private message me and I can give you the program’s website.

Note that you will have to find overnight accommodations for the weekend at a hotel. Some hotels in the area require you to be 18 to check-in so just keep that in mind.

Believe we forgot to answer a question about how international applicants are notified. If you currently live abroad, we will email you about your Monroe or W&M Scholar award. Those emails either went out late last week or will early this week. That way you don’t have to wait on snail mail (although your admit pac was sent as well).
