Hi
So I just applied to The Lead program a couple weeks ago I am extremely excited and nervous about getting accepted.

Is there anyone else out there that has applied or has been that can tell me what it is like for them?

I applied this year too, cant wait to see If I get in!

I guess this makes this the first LEAD 2012 thread. anyways, i think it’s probably best that we share a little about ourselves and what choice we selected to kinda see where we stand.
3.6 UW 5.0 W GPA
206 PSAT
Hispanic
had 2 great recs
wrote essays on a bank and how i won an award at a national fbla competition
and i chose the penn and umich option category

Well my preferred was Wharton but I would be happy anywhere. Snappy you seem like a shoe in.

Ivygolfer where did you prefer?

Where on the app was there an option to prefer a particular school? I only saw four bundles based on dates, each with 3 diff colleges.

Stats:
GPA: Awful (3.7W)
PSAT: 200, might try to send in Jan SAT scores though because I feel they will be much better.
Rec: I think they were very well written.
ECs: My main selling point; President of FBLA, state level award winner, paid contributor to finance website, small business with multiple thousands in profit, varsity golf captain, jr golf instructor, trade stocks with the profits from my business/cash from writing articles.

Essays: Wrote about how I am passionate about business and how I have learned through my successes and failures, by starting by own business and getting blown out in the stock market when I first started trading. My other one was about fear in the economy being the biggest problem, I used an article that I wrote as the attached peice of news so that may either look good or back fire completely.

I applied to the Wharton/Michigan one

GREATEST WEAKNESS: race: Indian

I would absolutely love to attend this program, but I understand that I have no chance whatsoever due to my ORM ethnicity. Good luck to the rest of you guys and I hope you have fun!

I meant the I preferred the July dates not just Wharton(but definitely my school of choice).
Haha “GREATEST WEAKNESS: race: Indian” - Although the program is tailored to minorities they do accept several other races.

menglish2,
I hope I get in, but I know that they only have 1-2 Asians per school and apparently half of the applicants are Asian so its almost 30 people gunning for every spot. Does anyone know what they look for most, stats or ec’s/interest in business

I do not know for sure, but since the program is so selective and they have many great students applying I would assume that they look at each applicant holistically.

Is the program really tailored to minorities?? How do you know that?? And does anyone know acceptance rate stats?

I think that most of the students who attend are minorities, but they’ll def consider every applicant regardless of his or her background. And idk, I’ve heard that it’s in the ballpark of 30%, but can’t say for certain.

The program is catered to minorities. Take a look at the picture on the LEAD Wharton website, I’d estimate 85% black 15% other. I really wish there was more of an opportunity for non URMs to take part in the program. I really loved the look of LEAD SBI but as a caucasian I really have no chance.

^ ehh, that’s a bit premature. Long as you applied, you have a chance. When do decisions come out anyways, late March?

I was lucky enough to participate in LEAD awhile back ago. My advice to everyone is to relax since your application has already been submitted. LEAD is an incredible program, and if you get accepted, you should be proud of your achievement. I fyou don’t get in, you shouldn’t worry for long, because one program does not determine what you will do in the future. Good luck to all!

^ Thanks a lot for sharing, I’m sure it was a lot of fun…decisions are supposed to come out saturday, so all we gotta do now is wait haha, GL everyone!

Decisions are out today!!

Have anyone received your results yet?

Nope not yet : ( but im checking ever hour now : ).

It’s in my inbox but im afraid of opening it and be disappointed.

Are you serious? I haven’t gotten anything yet.
