I added you to my buddy list so ill chat with you whenever you come online.

Oh I got mine today WW. I'm so excited, but I can't tell anyone at school because they will crucify me because none of my friends have gotten in anywhere yet. They were all deferred, and I feel bad for them so I'm not going to tell them my great news.

hahahaa WW, I just read that you're going to Wash and Lee in two weeks. ME TOO! My dad doesn't want me to go now because he's basically urging me to go to D or Yale, or a UC. Is anyone else going to the GWS at W&L?

Awesome! I said in another thread just now that my parents felt the same way about D vs. W&L now that I've gotten in, but I still really like W&L too. I'm pretty sure that I'm going to go to Dartmouth, but I think the GWH Scholarship thing will be really fun and worthwhile.

Hello everyone,., I got my Dartmouth "likely letter" on Feb. 11th, and I was wondering a few things... first of all, how "likely" am I to actually get accepted? Also, are there different versions of the "likely letter?" mine reads........

"Dartmouth College extends its warmest greetings and hearty congratulations for your outstanding academic achievements!
I was also wondering... is dartmouth,,,, famous/infamous for anything?... what do you guys think about the school...?....
Is that Dimmensions of Dartmouth thing ONLY for admitted students?? (I heard it was)

- Thanks - -

Congratulations Michael! Getting in is a big honor, and I'm still a little surprised about my own likely-letter reception. I guess that kind of answers your first question-- a "likely letter" means you're in, barring anything that would cause them to rescind any normal acceptance.

Yes, Dimensions is only for admitted students, and only regular decision applicants are officially given a place to stay, but ED applicants won't find it hard to find themselves somewhere to sleep.

I don't remember my likely letter being that long. To be honest, though, I didn't even read it all the way through. When I saw a letter on the table from Dartmouth, I wasn't sure if it was a likely letter or another piece of junk mail or maybe even a "missing information" letter. So, when I got to the part about it being a likely letter, I kind of just freaked, threw it back in the envelope, etc. Now I'm curious, though, and since I already typed all of that out, I won't erase it. Let me go check.

Back. Our letters, actually, are vastly different. Mine doesn't even mention the word "likely." It actually says "there is no doubt..." I'm not sure if the different versions mean anything, but yours was concluded with "congratulations," so I wouldn't worry about it.

What do I think about the school? Oh man, <3. I love everything about it, and even though I have in the past put school on par with D in my "personal preference ranking," it was mostly just a defense to help myself cope with rejection later. Almost a year ago, everything about Dartmouth clicked with me and I'm just absolutely thrilled. So thrilled that I'm home on Friday night looking at the housing options.

hmm... im wondering,, cause it says... "our review process is not yet entirely complete".... I just sent my mid year report about 3 days ago... had your application already been completed... including the mid year report?

what do you think campus life is like at Dartmouth... do you think its one of the more socially active of the Ivy League?

I bet the girls are hot... ( ! )

My mid-year report is still sitting in my guidance counselor's office. We have a very late term, apparently. I figured I wouldn't get a letter if I hadn't sent it (I hadn't seen the post proving otherwise a few pages back), so it was an even more pleasant surprise.

I think it's the premiere Ivy for social life, honestly. And I don't just mean drinking, but there seems to be plenty of that, too. A lot of my impression comes from the spirit of noncompetition and laidbackness that most current students swear by on CC.

It seems odd that they would send out different versions of the likely letter. Do the differences mean anything? Mine is closer to willy's I guess; it says "there is no question . . ." which was assuring. It was also pretty short and didn't mention Dimensions or finaid at all. I think I interviewed the same day the letter was postmarked so that didn't matter much either (which is what everyone says but still I didn't know that for sure when I was interviewing)

Michael,

Don't panic.. Congratulations. You're in. My daughter got your version of the letter last year. The official letter did come on April 1, with the e-mail on April 2 and she is now a very happy 08. Contact them, take advantage of going to Dimensions and see for your self. You will have an amazing time,.

I guess there is still a chance I can get a letter for this wave. My mail seems to come much later than everyone else's. I just recieved a scholarship from Tulane that was sent out 2 weeks ago. My friend whos letter was addressed the same day got it about 4 days after it was mailed. And also I got my Cornell fee waiver from minority admissions about 3 weeks after the deadline to join their early indentification program. Is there anything I can do about this? Its really nerve racking to get everything after my friends get them so im not really sure if anything can be done for it. Any ideas?

Congratulations on the scholarship from Tulane. One of my daughter's good friends is there and he is havig the tme of his life. My daughter did not get a likely in the first wave either (submitted app on dec 30, interview late february). It came in March.

Stan you are going to end up at a really great place. The next wave will be coming out soon.

Thanks for the encouragment. The people on this forum are so nice ans supportive. I really hope we all get into the schools of our choice because we all deserve it!!!!!

Nickleby, you've gotta be so stressed...keep remembering that the Yale deferral means just that...there's nothing bad in your apps. Hang in there.

Wait a minute now, these 2/17 receivers...when is the letter dated? (Is this a second wave we're seing???) All we got today was mail from Tuck asking my dad to give more money...(kind of disappinting to see the Dartmouth return address and have it be that!)

Nope, my letter wasn't part of the second wave. It was dated and postmarked February 11th, same as everyone else's. I guess the mail's just really slow getting out here.

micheal, thats how my likely from yale read, and my counselor believes it was because they didn't have my mid year or my alumni interview in yet. It still carries the same meaning unless you somehow bombed your first semester.

WW, my dad might not let me go to W&L because he doesn't want me missing school...Who are you staying with? My guy doesn't sound exciting.
