Looking for a good gluten free dessert

I’ll check that one out. I have several I’ve tried and they are all good. So far I’ve enjoyed the one I linked the most. We don’t have any celiacs, but we do have a lot of chocolate lovers in my family!

Key lime pie with gluten free graham cracker crust.

If you like cheesecake substitute ground pecans for the graham cracker crust. The rest of the cheesecake should be gluten free. I was a co-hostess for a bridal shower for a bride that had celiac. I made a chocolate mousse, a trifle recipe that I used a gluten free cake mix, and the cheesecake. They all were a hit.

They do sell gf graham crusts, and I’ve made my own with gf graham crackers.

I made Pavlova the last time I had to serve a gluten-free dessert, festive and delicious.

My nephew has celiac and we have a dedicated waffle iron for him. He’s coming for Thanksgiving and I need to check with him just what we need to do. I know that minuscule amounts of gluten are extremely harmful, but I think in the past we’ve used new sponges and cleaned things really well rather than buy new pots. Haven’t seen him since before the pandemic.

New sponges is a good idea. I think it depends on the cleaning! My kid has separate pots, bowls and dishes with roommates. She brings her own food to holidays so noone has to worry about it (or not understand).

She is so sick right now from a protein bar that may have had traces of wheat. She was literally having trouble leaving the house/bathroom for work. She is so careful and almost never makes a mistake. It also causes headache.

Sorry for the tangent!

I don’t have a specific recipe because I always just Google it but have found one of my favorite GF desserts is a fruit crumble. So long as they can tolerate corn starch or almond flour/GF flour blend and buy certified GF oats it’s not a dessert that screams GF or other. If fact I had a party where everything was GF except the typical sandwich rolls (had GF ones too) and nobody was the wiser except my dear friend who is GF knew.

We have a friend with a kid with significant celiac. They have dedicated pans, mixer, even serving pieces and utensils.

My suggestion…buy something from a gluten free place, and get disposable utensils and plates.

Ask them what precautions you need to take!

Thank you, everyone! I need to ponder on these. I will write them all down for future use. No one with celiac in the family.

DH and S2 are both celiac since the dark ages of calling 1-800 numbers for info.

We prefer non-celiac hosts to buy something (UDIs food, Glutino or Schaars) rather than attempt to bake it themselves, bless them for the attempt. If you make KAF brownies and then make regukar ones, the flour airborne settling on the GF brownies is enough to make them sick. DH licked a stamp once and was throwing up in the driveway before he could mail the letter 30 sec later.

Anyway, just ask the guest what you should do.

I will double check with him. We have tons of disposable silverware because we never remember to tell them not to include it when we get takeout! Most grocery stores have extensive gluten free sections these days, but I don’t trust any of the restaurants and bakeries who sell both to be trustworthy.

Almond orange cake? I use honey to taste in mine instead of sugar, and it comes out great.

Pavlova is my celiac daughter’s fave!

I make this GF dessert several times per year. I particularly like the texture of this when it’s frozen. I cut out individual slices for myself and put them in the freezer since some folks just prefer it chilled.

I love the crust so much I’ve used it in cheesecakes as well. It stays nice and crisp.

I have a niece who is GF. One of the most popular GF desserts I made was Rice Krispie treats with potato chips mixed in. Adults and kids loved them.

I was just going to suggest Rice Krispie treats! Have not had with Potato chips…will try!

I actually was thinking of a clementine cake! My son in law is on a FOD diet and he could eat this.

They’re really good. I added a little more chips and didn’t frost.

You need to be careful about the ingredients. Kelloggs Rice Krispies are not gluten free (because they contain malt flavoring, like a lot of cereals). Even some brands of marshmallows contain gluten. In general, if something isn’t labelled GF, there is a good chance it isn’t.
