Master List of Music School Acceptances, Fall 2012

Just recieved notification via e-mail that DS was accepted into the music industry program at the Frost School/U Miami. Info on scholarship, if any, to follow.

D received UNCG Scholar academic scholarship yesterday (BM Vocal Performance) for $14950 per year!

My D2 was admitted today to U Miami/Frost for BM in VP- scholarship, if any, tba. Also today she was admitted to Lawrence U for a double degree with an $18,000 per year scholarship- BM in VP and BA in ? (possibly Biology)- extremely happy!

Delighted to report son accepted at Lawrence Conservatory for cello performance and composition. He got a very generous scholarship for composition for all 4 years at Lawrence. Waiting to hear from Oberlin and Eastman now. Also found out how he got music scholarship from SUNY Fredonia but am waiting to hear results of merit aid for Ithaca College. At Indiana he is also a finalist for composition scholarship but will not know until April about that one. Now it is getting interesting. And stressful!

Congratulations to you all! My D got into Baldwin-Wallace College Conservatory, Frost at UM (icing on the cake), Nazareth College of Rochester and SUNY Fredonia all for Music Therapy with Bassoon concentration. We are ecstatic about Frost which was her first choice!

Accepted to umass Amherst, cu boulder, and Lawrence conservatory with 15 k / yr scholarship for BM viola !

Congratulations Cellocompmom - you’re right about the ‘interesting’ part. I always think the choosing from all the wonderful options the hardest part of all.

Wow - been away a few days since posting my D’s decision to accept an offer from University of Delaware and boy the board has exploded with posts. Congrats to everyone on acceptances & scholarships. It’s so great once they make a decision! Non-arts applicants/participants do not realize the stress of additonal paperwork, auditions, etc. Best of luck to your Ss/Ds!

My son was accepted at CSULB Bob Cole Conservatory for the “Music Major” which is not called a BM in Composition (Piano) only because they don’t officially make you a comp major until after a year or two. Sorry BassDad, that’s a confusing one  I’d go ahead & call it BM Composition, myself. (Apparently it has to do with being a state school & various unit & other requirements during the first year.) Also, though, he was admitted to Lawrence Conservatory for BM Composition (Piano) with a large amount of yearly scholarships including a piano accompanying fellowship, which is kinda nifty - basically work-study playing piano. (Never expected such a thing from a regional audition.) So with IU Jacobs, as noted before, and aside from last financial details, that is that. Very few applications, each one for a somewhat different specific reason, and only one denial (CU Boulder), which is very nice. However, these schools are so vastly different from one another, it’s hard to imagine how the decision will be made. (Quick note, looking at the master list, cellocompmom’s s was accepted to IU Jacobs I think for composition, not performance.) Cheers all! Look for me stressing out among the decision-making threads.

It’s very difficult to read about everybody else getting their Lawrence envelopes today, when S’s didn’t come. :(. Stupid Chicago mail. Maybe tomorrow.

Momophony, Thank for noticing the error. My s was accepted to Indiana Jacobs School for composition-not performance but with cello study. Thanks for keeping the massive list BassDad.

S accepted U. Miami/Frost School of Music, BM Studio Music/Jazz Guitar, on Jazz guitar. Scholarship notice pending

Trumpetguysmom, I’m so sorry, how frustrating! I’m sitting here feeling envious because my adorable DS missed applying for a major scholarship, and decided a couple of applications were just too much to do at the last minute, etc. Sigh. This whole thing is so ridiculously out of our control, and it’s so impersonal, yet it feels so personal. Your son has some great acceptances. Crossing fingers for the next one!

I haven’t been here in awhile, as it has been a crazy year. But wanted to update on my daughter’s college adventures. She has gotten three of four acceptances so far: Duquesne University, Westminster Choir College, and Eastman. All are for BM in organ performance. Just got the Eastman acceptance, and she is in heaven. We’ll see what she chooses as financial packages continue to arrive!

Trumpetguysmom,

My Lawrence letter hasn’t come yet and neither has my friend’s and we’re both just north of Milwaukee, so I’m assuming they’ve mailed out to further distances first. But then again, my friend is voice with a jazz emphasis on guitar, I’m piano and your son is trumpet, and I don’t think any of the reported acceptances came from those instruments minus the regular voice people so it could be location or instrument.

BassDad - just to clarify, I didn’t mean required by you but for the schools that required a performance as part of their audition. Sorry for being unclear! Thanks for all you do! I respect your contribution to all of us as we sort things out!

Acceptances vary from instrument to instrument. My friend’s son auditioned at Eastman two weeks before my daughter, and he has heard nothing back yet. All the organists we know who auditioned all got their acceptances with email last night.

go figure.

we are still waiting on Oberlin, who said they would let us know mid-March. We are still waiting, tho!

@Lmw586: Son was accepted into the music programs at FSU, UCF, USF, Stetson, UF and S. Carolina (we are FL residents). Thus far, have received one firm scholarship offer from UF for $2K, Stetson sent an email saying their offer would be here this week or next, and S. Carolina the first week of April…

I’m not sure how much stock I put in private school offers - Stetson publishes their tuition as $36K per year, but offered him $21K for academics right off the bat. With the music offer pending, that’s still $15K per year. UF on the other hand offered $2K music scholarship off a tuition of $5K, and he gets Bright Futures…so while $21K SOUNDS like a huge offer amount, it still doesn’t come close to the financial situation at a strong public university. I feel some private schools inflate their tuition so they can offer large-sounding amounts, which really don’t add up to such a great deal.

Son accepted at Lawrence University for B.Mus. Performance, Emphasis in Jazz and Improvisational Music [trumpet].

$20,000/yr. scholarship: $18K music + $2K academic.

The long awaited floodgates have opened. Hang on to your hats, folks, it is going to be one heck of a ride for the next month or so.

Congratulations to umlegacy and son, Rosie26 and daughter, electricbassmom and son, GS707 and daughter, showgirlsmomma and daughter, cellocompmom and son, bassckmomma and daughter, lovetheviola, momophony and son (also thanks for the correction), suzukimom and daughter, and TrumpetDad and son.

For those who received scholarships and did not mention amounts, I understand why you may not want to go public with that information. If you are willing to have me add the amounts into the overall statistics but without associating them with your screen name, please send me the information via PM. For those who have found my PM box full, I just cleaned it out.
