Yes, same here for my application. I’ve been waiting so long for this. Hope everyone will get in
I really hope it’s sooner then the end of February, I’m just ready to know :-<
Called MSU and they said it should take 4 to 6 weeks from here, that puts you from the Feb 16th to March 2nd. Just letting you guys know :)>-
Atleast it’s faster than it says hopefully the start even earlier
Literally passing by East Lansing tomorrow, I wish I could just visit the admissions office to discuss more about my application in person rather than on the phone
Does admission for the summer semester allow you to return in the fall? I always thought Summer transfers were different since they host a lot of guest students during that time.
Yeah since you’re taking it this Spring semester they’ll just wait until the end of April (or early May) to see you post your grades. After that you’ll probably receive a 2nd notification within 2-4 weeks about their review of your spring semester grades.
I’m in a similar boat, but i’m taking the Math requirement now but the English (WRA 101) requirement in my schools first summer semester which ends 6/28/17. So i’m in a bit of a tougher spot, wondering if they’ll tell me my grades are good enough but they’re waiting for that English grade or if they’ll deny me because of it.
It seems like the admissions office has about 2-4 people that typically answer the phone at all times… And they all give me answers on a variety of things, so I thought I might ask for an opinion or chance here. So i’ll start with my situation, I am currently attending OCC this Winter semester taking 14 credits. I did not attend in the fall as my parents thought it might be good to take a small break and just work and save up money and then maybe attend a CC (as I am now) and transfer somewhere else in the next fall. So by the end of this Winter semester I’ll have 14 credits and I’m taking 15 over the course of the summer. I am currently taking the equivalent to MTH 103 (College Algebra) which is the minimum for admission at MSU. My main problem is that the highest you could be placed in ENG at OCC is Comp 1, MSU recommends Comp 2 (WRA 101) on the transfer site. I’m taking Comp 2 in my first summer semester which ends 6/28/17. I know most Fall transfer applicants hear a decision by mid-April. SO, I would like to know if you think they’ll deny me because of that? Or wait to see that grade? Or anything else they might do because of that Comp 2 class. I’ll give my current credentials as it may put weight on my process as well:
HS GPA
2.7
21 ACT
College GPA
3.6, and planning to attend / take part in some E.C’s during this spring.
If anyone has any thoughts on what might happen given my current situation please feel free to voice your opinion based on what you know about the transfer admissions process. Thanks and best of luck to all the rest of you Fall 2017 applicants! I know I read the 2015 as well as the 2016 threads of the transfer applicants before us and they had many of the same recurring issues as we do. And most of them eventually replied as they were accepted!
Of course, Summer is just another semester. If you are a guest student or an LLL student then its different app. I applied for Summer 2017 and filled the same app as you, when I finished I contacted them to change my semester. I had consent to do it and approval from a manger in MSU’s transfer admissions. They said it is a thing, but very few students apply for it. My situation is different, I am trying to finish college a semester early and start studying for the med school entrance exam.
I was accepted Friday!! They didn’t email me or anything but I went on the portal as a distraction from studying today, and the letter had posted. It was only about a week, maybe two since it went to “under review”.
As far as stats, here is what I posted earlier:
"22YO white male from Michigan
Also applied: Michigan, Cornell, Stanford, Harvard, Brown, UPenn, Columbia, NYU, Vanderbilt
Major: Psychology
Objective
Currently Attending: Community College in Michigan
Credits: will finish with 88, which includes 12 from APs… I expect somewhere around 50 to transfer due a semi-difficult social work program I am completing that is nontransferable, as well as the APs being taken out. Will have MTA and MACROE endorsements as well
College GPA: 3.95 (UW), 1 W in Fall of 2013
College course load: Sporadic courses from fall of '13 to winter '15. 17 CH’s in fall '15, 21 CH’s in fall '16, 22 this semester (never received lower than an A-, haven’t received A- since winter of '14)
Two gap semesters in winter '15 and winter '16, explained well
HS: Public School in MI
HS GPA: 3.2ish
ACT: 28 (one and only sitting in March 2011)
Did not apply out of high school
Subjective
EC’s: Work as a “full time” school bus driver in addition to the 22 CH’s I’m taking, internship at residential juvenile delinquency rehabilitation program, another job in leadership role, the gap semester jobs and travel, serve on board of directors of local youth baseball league, run umpires program for the league for last three years. Passionate about them all.
Essay: I’m a perfectionist, and I felt like there was something still to be said, but I know I’m a really good writer, so shrug"
I didn’t mention it originally but my sister attends MSU right now, which may have helped.
Good luck to all!
Maybe/hopefully they will start releasing decisions this week
So my friend applied as a transfer on Jan. 22. They found out on Jan. 27 that they would have to submit this terms grades before MSU makes a final decision. Anyhow, over the weekend after the decision was made they changed their major to “No Preference”. And looking at the student portal today, the application switched back to saying it’s “currently being reviewed”. Anyone know anything about this?
Hi there! I applied back in November, but my app has been in review since mid January. I’m wanting to go into communications at msu. I have a current gpa of a 3.45 and have all my required classes for msu completed (the math/English credits). Will be transferring as a junior with 60 credits. Hoping we hear back soon!
@CurrentSparty25 Wait so was your friend accepted already then it changed to under review?
@hmn1997 They were told they would have to submit this terms grades in May (basically meaning deferred). And then she changed her major. Now it says “app is under review” again. Very odd.
Hello, I am looking to transfer for fall 2017. I applied back in November that day it opened. 2 Weeks ago my status changed to under reviewed. Transferring from a community college with a gpa of 3.36 with 62 credits and all pre reqs completed. I am a supply chain major and I hope that I will get admitted directly into the broad school since I have all pre reqs completed but I really just want to know if I’m accepted into MSU. I just called the admissions office and they said that it takes 8-12 weeks after your application goes under reviewed. Hopefully we find out soon!
@SpartyGirl19 3.45 College GPA? You’re in for sure! Stop stressing you got it!
@CurrentSparty25 Them wanting this terms grades doesn’t mean deferred. Deferred means they would push their admission back until spring or if they denied them altogether. Your friend still has the same chance as everyone else for Fall admission, they literally just want to make sure they do just as well as they have in the past before making a decision.
@bgfog068 With a 3.3 you’re almost certainly in! I just worry about admission to Broad. They may deny you from Broad and make you take a semester of courses there at MSU before giving you admission for which you would have to apply again.
@CCmsu20 Ok but do you know why they got their decision back saying they want to see their grades after this term? And then once the major was changed the portal went back to saying “being reviewed”. That threw us off a little.
