Michigan State Fall 2017 Transfer

@bgfog068 To make you feel better my brother who applied to msu in fall 2015 had a 3.3 from the CC we went to and he got into Broad. He was going into hospitality business so I’m not sure if it matters within the college but as long as it’s not like accounting (the most competitive in Broad) then I think you should be fine!!

For those who were curious about having to wait because of uncompleted required credits, my brother didn’t have his math credit completed until the spring, so he was not officially accepted until mid May. I think they’re pretty strict with those required courses so I don’t think they’ll budge until they see you’ve passed and completed them!

@CurrentSparty25 Like I said, they usually want to see your grades after the term because their grades might be borderline admissable and the admissions committee wants to make sure they don’t accept them and have them flunk out their last semester. As to your major change question, some majors have different requirements for transfers, so they’ll need to make sure your friend meets those requirements before sending another review. If your friend DOES meet those requirements, you’ll most likely get the same message that they’ll want to see post-semester grades again. Although it depends, if they changed from a major like Engineering into something like Mathematics, it’ll be a-lot easier to get in as a Math major as Mathematics is an unlimited enrollment major and not competitive. So, depending on what major they changed from, they might even get an acceptance decision.

@CCmsu20 Thank you for clarifying! Makes us feel a lot better. They had changed their major from “media and information” to “no preference”. I honestly don’t think it’ll affect anything. Will most likely get the same message after they look it over again I’m guessing.

Accepted 02/10. GPA 3.75. Cheers!

Accepted on 2/14! Best Valentine’s Day gift! Gpa 3.5, best of luck to you all!

Anybody hearing anything? Almost 10 days with no posts i’m surprised

Yes same as me…I applied for Accounting since Nov 15th and my status had been sitting as being reviewed until this point.

If anyone is interested, I’ve started an iMessage groupchat of people transferring for next year. It’s just for those of us who are super anxious and would like to share about our experience and our process. Just private message me with your iMessage e-mail or phone number and I’ll add you into it. I’ve already gotten 4 people from reddit to join into it and I would like to be able to hear from more of the other transfers. Hope to talk to you guys soon!

Hi Myl171993, when you say you got rejected for Fall 2016… was that when you applied as a senior in high school? Or you got rejected as a transfer student?

Hi, I’m looking for someone to discuss applying to MSU as a transfer. If you are available please just message me or like this post!

I’ll safely assume no one else has heard back?

@mcngalle I’m guessing that or just the fact that when people DO get accepted their first thought is probably not to come back to this site, but I wish people would just to share their GPA and amount of credits as well as major etc etc

Right, well they basically told me that I need to wait until my grades for this semester are posted.

credits completed: 40, 12 more in the process
major: transfer studies, applying for international relations
GPA including two courses that don’t transfer: 3.75
Highschool: homeschool
year: sophomore

I thought this was the case for me, but was told that I’d have nothing to worry about as long as I maintained above a 3.5. haven’t recieved anything worse, but they still want to wait before making a decision. Interesting.

Hey, I know I’m late to the party but I was just wondering if anyone could help me out here.

I’m a freshman at Illinois State right now, looking to transfer as a sophomore as an education major.
-3.0 by the end of this year
-Involved on campus (sorority, volunteering, various clubs)
-I was also previously accepted last year. I had a 4.0, 24 on my ACT, AP credit, crazy involved, all that jazz.

If I send in my transfer app on Monday, do you think it’s not too late to lose hope? I know it usually takes about 8-12 weeks and it’s kind of pushing it (I know I’m super late here, but a lot of stuff was going on and it was a big decision to make). Thanks in advance and good luck to everyone waiting on their decisions!

@hanrosey It’s not too late at all! They actually accept and review transfer applications well into the summer, as late as Mid-June. And they make decisions I’ve heard even into early August, so it’s not too late at all. There will probably be another wave of transfer applications sent in around early May as students start getting their spring grades back and start applying with all of their grades in full. Depending on if you have over 28 transferrable credits by the end of this year, they will not review your high school information at all, your review will solely depend on your college performance so far. If you have anymore questions feel free to message me or comment below so others can see!

Hi CCmsu20, it seems like you know a lot about the transfer admissions process. Are you familiar with admissions appeal process at MSU? I applied for fall 2017 but they rejected me because of my GPA (2.75)at the beginning of february even though I was still taking classes at my current university. Do you think appealing is worth trying?

@Myl171993 Appealing is definitely worth trying! I would finish taking your current classes, so that a new GPA is established, and then try the appeals process. And i’m not sure if this works but i’ve heard of it doing so: If you change major to something close to your major, they will re-review your application completely. So if you report those Spring grades and then change major you might not even have to appeal at all.
P.S. - Just get that 2.5 to a 3.0!

CCmsu20. I have a question! I was admitted into the MSU fall 2017 school year. Do I still have to send in my transcript for the spring semester or are they all set with my fall. And if so, do they look strongly at my second semester grades?
