Michigan State Fall 2017 Transfer

@dsith94 well, to be considered transferrable, a course has to be completed with a 2.0 or higher. As far as I know, no D+ is a 2.0, so if you don’t have above 28 transferrable credits (not counting the D+) they would take your decision away. Apart from that, as long as your cumulative stacks up to a 3.0 you should still be in good shape.

thanks, I have about 50 transferable credits and it was a photography class (something i thought i could be good at lol) so does that play a part or no?

@dsith94 Nope! If that’s the D+, then it will be calculated into your GPA but it won’t transfer as a credit.

thank you! i’ve just been waiting and it’s been getting pretty nerve-wrecking haha. thanks so much! i feel a little more at ease now

Has anybody that was accepted with a contingency for Fall 2017 had their spring semester grades processed yet and been fully admitted? My transcript was received weeks ago and still nothing as well as inputting the grades on the online portal.

After you submit spring semester grades, how long does it take MSU to respond back to you?

@winter507 Took me about 5 business days. But it might take longer if you’re getting accepted. They just told me they wanted half of my summer grades. So unless you meet all the requirements as of right now it should be pretty quick

Hi All! Just one last check to see how everyone did for transferring for this coming fall! I didn’t see a whole lot of resolutions or replies for most of you so I just wanted to check one more time. Hope to hear back from some of you guys! If you do happen to see this, can you just leave if you were accepted or not along with how many credits you have and what your GPA was? Would love to see some feedback, Thanks!

@CCmsu20 I submitted my grade for WRA 101 last week and I am still waiting for an admissions decision. After you submitted your WRA 101 grade, how long did it take MSU to give you a final admissions decision?

@winter507 Still waiting lmaooo

@CCmsu20 I was accepted to Michigan State, then a week and a half later accepted to Michigan. I planned to attend Michigan for about three or four months (Feb-May) to study BioPsych, Cognition, and Neuroscience, but was accepted to Stanford as a transfer in May. I will be attending Stanford this fall for a Human Biology degree, possibly a double major between HumBio and Psych.

@mjr2013 Oh, so you had been basically getting a 4.0 in every single class

@CCmsu20 this is what I posted back in mid-January. I had a 3.95, finished at OCC with a 3.92.

"Applied to MSU as a transfer student for Fall of 2017. Posting this on all the transfer forums I applied to (that exist) for reference. Will report back come decision day, maybe even live in the suspense as it approaches.

22YO white male from Michigan
Also applied: Michigan, Cornell, Stanford, Harvard, Brown, UPenn, Columbia, NYU, Vanderbilt
Major: Psychology

Objective
Currently Attending: Community College in Michigan
Credits: will finish with 88, which includes 12 from APs… I expect somewhere around 50 to transfer due a semi-difficult social work program I am completing that is nontransferable, as well as the APs being taken out. Will have MTA and MACROE endorsements as well
College GPA: 3.95 (UW), 1 W in Fall of 2013
College course load: Sporadic courses from fall of '13 to winter '15. 17 CH’s in fall '15, 21 CH’s in fall '16, 22 this semester (never received lower than an A-, haven’t received A- since winter of '14)
Two gap semesters in winter '15 and winter '16, explained well
HS: Public School in MI
HS GPA: 3.2ish
ACT: 28 (one and only sitting in March 2011)
Did not apply out of high school

Subjective
EC’s: Work as a “full time” school bus driver in addition to the 22 CH’s I’m taking, internship at residential juvenile delinquency rehabilitation program, another job in leadership role, the gap semester jobs and travel, serve on board of directors of local youth baseball league, run umpires program for the league for last three years. Passionate about them all.
Essay: I’m a perfectionist, and I felt like there was something still to be said, but I know I’m a really good writer, so shrug

@CCmsu20 I called the admissions office and they were not able to give me an exact date as to when a final decision on my application will be made.However, they did say MSU is still accepting transfer students at this time. Do you have any news on the final decision process?

@winter507 I called today as well, they said their usual “4-6 weeks” shpeal and asked how much longer since it’s late in the summer and there probably aren’t as many applicants this late. The guy still said 4-6 no matter what. He looked up my application and said it went under review July 3rd (which I already knew) giving me anywhere from 1.5 weeks to another 3.5 weeks. My biggest worry is financial aid and still being able to pay even though it would be impossible to still take out loans this late and still have them to pay for the 2017-2018 school year. So, I called the financial aid office as well, and they said for students that are admitted this late, they will put a hold on your bill until you can start taking action on your financial aid. But if you don’t make reasonable progress towards completing your loan disbursement form and whatnot, they’ll kick you out pretty much. So that’s all the information i gathered today and I’m actually slightly relieved. Now we just wait for our decisions which should come in the next 1.5 to 3 weeks.

@winter507 I was denied this morning with a 3.0 GPA. I’ll be doing an appeal letter and if that doesn’t work I’ll apply for spring semester.

@CCmsu20 really? what was their reasoning behind you getting rejected even with a 3.0 GPA?

@Myl171993 They didn’t say. Just told me that I was not chosen for admission and gave me steps to change to spring semester

i’m in the same boat. i’m taking my math credit (writing requirements are done) in the spring semester. so, did your brother get deferred until May? or did he just not hear anything until May?

@Shirtsleeves I took the writing over the summer and still got accepted. You will have absolutely no issues whatsoever.
