@Nobody426 I’d like to major in chemical engineering and minor or possibly double major in computer science.

@Nobody426 Maybe chemistry or biology. I’m not sure yet because I want to go into medicine.

@Nobody426 Astrobiology might be a possible route for you. I’m considering electrical engineering with a minor in computer science since my dream is to work in robotics :D

@JRez96 Are you on a robotics team right now?

@Mathmaticious School doesn’t have one unfortunately. There will be one next year though Even better, my school is adding a few engineering classes next year: STEM engineering, IB Design Technology, and (my favorite) STEM advanced electronics and robotics.

That sounds cool. Does your school have a computer science class? @JRez96

@Mathmaticious Nah, nothing specifically programming. Although we have classes in computer hardware called Cisco and A+.

O ok

Hey guys! I started this thread and was super pumped to apply to MITES. Unfortunately, I chickened out by all the competition I just wanted to wish you guys the best of luck! You all seem like really good, inspired candidates.

@engineering2015 Aww man There’s no reason to ever be intimidated by anyone… Who knows what could happen if you applied. As cliche as this sounds, this quote is so applicable to both summer program admissions and college admissions, but “you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.”

@engineering2015 I’m so sorry to hear that! Just don’t repeat that with college admissions! The first elimination step is always the people who are too intimidated to apply ;)

@Existentialized No but when I was little I was really interested in aliens and whatnot. (Even right now. Doctor Who fan right here!) I never really thought about incorporating genetics and astrophysics together though, it’s always one or the other for me. If only I could double major in both…

@Mathmaticious I’m not very familiar with chemical engineering, but CS is amazing! My dad doesn’t really want me to go into that, but I’m definitely looking to take more classes in that field in collage. It opens up soooo much more career opportunities.

@emywemy610 Are you thinking of any specific subcategories in Chem/Bio? Either way, it’d be really fun to study both together and biochemistry is seriously cool. (I think I’m really the kind of ‘GO SCIENCE!’ girl, haha.)

@JRez96 I wish you would join a Robotics team! We do a bunch of EE and CS stuff in there. Maybe you can look into staring one by yourself? You don’t have to do FIRST Robotics FRC necessary, maybe even VEX and FTC would work? EE’s really cool to work in, that’s my dad’s field. :)

Ahhhhh you guys are all so amazing! We should definitely talk more, even if you did apply to MITES! We are all individuals who love science here, and it definitely makes for a good conversation. :)

@Nobody426 I’m not really sure haha I love both of them so it’s hard for me to pick out something specific from either one that I’d like to focus on. Same! I don’t care if it makes me a dork, but science is so flipping awesome to me.

Results are apparently coming out in mid-April - just in time to either make or ruin my spring break XD

Haha. I wish they’d give a specific date. I have spring break this week and of course my teachers all saw it as an opportunity to give us exorbitant amounts of work.

Ahhh I just had Spring Break last week and now I’m back to school… The stress of the upcoming ACT is really suffocating me along with these AP classes… Student Council presidential elections is tomorrow and I’m actually just so nervous right now!

I’d be pretty happy if I get E2@MIT or MOSTEC already, but MITES would definitely be a dream. Only about three more weeks to go!

I haven’t really thought about MITES. I’m treating it like I’ve already been rejected; I’m just going to go out and have a great summer and try to help out my community. And sell earrings :).

Hey guys I also applied this year! Is there a lot of people from your schools applying?

@ginnymills I’m the only one in my school that applied. I think I’m also the first in my school to ever apply.

@ginnymills I don’t think anyone else applied from my school. I know people have applied from my school in the past but none have gotten in.
