MIT MITES Summer 2014

Aps aren’t too bad. Just make sure to study and it’ll come easy.

“2014 admissions decisions will be released by April 25.” -
Why must they make us wait so long!! :frowning:

;-;

<a href=“MITES – MIT Introduction to Technology, Engineering and Science”>MITES – MIT Introduction to Technology, Engineering and Science;

I took the ACT on the 12th too, (first time) and I’m 36 hopeful. :slight_smile: @JRez96 It says the scores are getting released starting from April 21st on the student webpage…

I wanted to go to SSP beyond anything, but unfortunately, I was denied… I’m not too optimistic for MITES, but I already secured myself a paid internship in an university and a spot in girls state this summer so I’m not too worried!

Don’t worry guys–I didn’t write a word for the optional 6th essay. I think we already have pretty much all that we need to say in the five. :slight_smile: Seriously anxious about everything so far!

@Nobody426‌ wait you said you were from Northwest Indiana right? Oh my gosh I seriously think we are twins because if I don’t go to MITES I’m also going to Girls State!! Haha

And anyone take the SAT Chem or SAT math 2, or Ap Chem, ap gov tests last year or before? Any tips for me? My first time taking an SAT Subject test, so I’m crossing my fingers.

And so are MITES results coming in on the 25th? Or are we going with the “Wednesday Theory” so the 23rd?

Guys I believe those “Status updates” were the decisions.
I remember i editted it and appeared in my activity log.
I checked today and it read “---- editted Decision Status Available* for ----”
I clicked “Decision status available*” and it was a rejection letter directed to me.

I don’t think it was random after all…

Do you think the MITES and E2 offers come out so late so that students with other good summer opportunities accept those earlier, leaving MITES and E2 spots for students who don’t have other great summer opportunities?

Of course if a student only applies to MITES and E2 and finds out at the end of April that they weren’t accepted, their chances of finding other great summer experiences have fallen horribly by then. It would be really helpful to students if the selection committees could process all the applications and make decisions within a month or two.

I took ap chem and I’m taking 2nd level college Chem if you have any questions @luckystar888 :). (I’m also taking subject tests for the first time in May)

@kmichelle where did you see that you had a rejection letter? This was today?

Did anyone else get an acceptance or rejection letter today?

I still have nothing…
Don’t fret, I think it’s a glitch (as discussed earlier).

@Ginnymills-that would be problematic… you don’t have a computer?
@luckystar888-I’m not as familiar with it either, as I am mostly friends with E2 and MITES kids. MOSTEC does have its own website(google it). I believe you work on a six-month project and come to MIT for a week for a conference to present it(the same week as E2 last year).
@theorist-Most people don’t withdraw their apps after getting into programs(or colleges!) so I can’t see how that would work…MITES results come out late because they get so many applications. Of course, it’s up to the students to come up with something to do during the summer in the 96% chance they aren’t admitted to MITES.

My son applied for the MITES 2014 summer program, and we’re hoping to hear about his acceptance / rejection by April 25th. He’s an Hispanic minority, straight A’s (top of his H.S. class) in an early college high school program, enrolled full time at UNC Wilmington (finishing second semester, loves Calc & Chemistry, tops in his classes) and should have good recs and essays in his application. So, we’re really hoping he gets in. Only 80 will be selected.

@kmichelle Um what? When did that happen? I checked mine and there’s nothing there…

yeah, my MITES account looks the same, just that I can’t edit any of my submitted things anymore…

And I just got my confirmation for Girl’s State, so that means I have something to do over the summer if I don’t get into MITES. ONLY A LITTLE OVER ONE WEEK LEFT TIL RESULTS. And I’m betting on the 23rd, since it’s a Wednesday.

@Ginnymills‌ You don’t have a computer? Did you do the MITES application at the library or on your phone?

In other news I finally beat 2048 :smiley:

@luckystar888 @AmaranthineD‌ yeah my little brother spilled water on it a couple months back so I used my phone and the library to do my application. My family has an old one with good ol windows xp, but it’s almost useless.

@emywemy610‌ Did you “edit” the “Status update” while it was there? Cuz I somehow did and well it appeared in my Activity log
And today it changed name to “Decision --something-- Available*” and I clicked it and it was a rejection letter directed to me

@kmichelle‌ what exatly did the letter say? can you take a screenshot or post it here?
