MIT MITES Summer 2014

Where’s it say status update? Has it disappeared? And is it possible some people don’t have it since they haven’t finished looking at all the applications? Because I remember I submitted my application on the very last day, at like 10:40pm, so it would make sense if they are looking at the applications in order.

@luckystar, i saw the original “Standard Denial” thing and I literally turned it in like 2 minutes before the submission date line lol. That status update was taken down for anybody who had it, but kmichelle edited it so it stayed in her activity history, so that’s where she saw the change from.

I’m afraid to check mine again in case there’s another rejection letter lolol

Unless you edited it, it doesn’t show up

@‌kmichelle Yeah, I didn’t edit it and nothing shows up for me.

Is there anyone else who has this on their account?

@luckstar888 I turned in my application a couple of days before the deadline and I had it, but I don’t know if a couple of days would make much of a difference. I think it was just random, or at least I hope it was.

Ohh I see. Thanks for telling me you guys. UGH, now I wish I edited so I could see if I got a denial letter.

@emywemy610‌ I haven’t edited the status thing, so my account look totally normal.

I got it because I edited the thing. I wish I hadn’t. I don’t like seeing it.
“[NAME] completed Decision Status Available* for [NAME]” is what shows up on mine.

I edited it but I’m not seeing anything different, just the “Standard denial letter” that I thought we had debunked to be a “glitch” :o

I’m assuming you clicked on it lol?

@ubermika, maybe they’re in the process of putting results in. Maybe it was just a glitch but as they make decisions they’re putting the real ones in, if your decision was already made (and you got the denial letter thing), then I’d assume that the notification of everyone who already had the standard denial letter thing would be changed at the same time for the real denial letter. Since yours wasn’t changed, that makes me think the first wave of notifications weren’t real and they’re still very much making decisions.

Okay, I just clicked on a couple more things and this came up. I clicked on the second “edit” after opening up the “standard denial letter” and this came up…
Dear ****:

Thank you for applying to the Office of Engineering Outreach Program’s summer programs, MITES, E2@MIT, and MOSTEC. After careful review and consideration, we are unable to offer you admission.

We did not make this decision easily. We appreciate the time and effort you spent preparing your application and your interest in MITES, E2@MIT and MOSTEC. While it is never pleasant to receive disappointing news, we hope that you will find other ways to achieve your academic goals.

If you are considering applying to MIT please do not let this decision discourage you. MIT Admissions decisions are completely separate from the MITES application process. Many students who are not admitted to the MITES Program are accepted to MIT as freshmen.

Despite this decision, we encourage you to continue to seek out enrichment opportunities in preparation for a career in engineering or the sciences. You may wish to visit our website: <a href=“MITES – MIT Introduction to Technology, Engineering and Science”>MITES – MIT Introduction to Technology, Engineering and Science; to inquire about other national and regional programs for high school students.

Thank you so much for applying to the MITES 2014 Program. We wish you much success in your future academic and personal endeavors.

Sincerely,
MITES App Team

Definitely makes me a little relieved to have a final answer  Summer classes it is! xD

This means that the original denial letters were probably accurate since people who saved them seem to all have gotten the letter at about the same time.

I wonder if anyone on this thread got accepted then :O

everyone on this thread DESERVES to be accepted, however. :D

So only one person has an actual denial letter…?

What about everyone else that got one before?

Do you remember if you had to click edit to see the “Standard denial thing”? I remember I had to click on a couple things to see the message. I’m just wondering because if you did have to, it never saved into activity history.

Apparently you had to click “edit” so it would save in your activity. Those who did saw a change and got linked to te letter. I think 3 people on here have reported that they clicked edit and saw the change/letter

@luckystar888 Ahhhhh we have been doing everything identical (in IN!!) and probably going to meet this summer at Girls State! Potential roommate? (hahaha, I’m just dreaming right now.) This is awesome–I actually wonder if we really know each other. Guess we’ll find out. :)

I submitted my app early February and I don’t have anything yet, if any of you is wondering… Makes me kind of anxious–I need to rsvp a couple of events for this summer so I hope I’d know soon! Maybe it would have been a good idea for me to ‘edit’ the app. Mine literally just shows my old ‘activity status’ and doesn’t have anything else…

Yes, I first clicked “edited” and then when the “Standard denial” option came up, I clicked in the upper right hand corner where there was another button allowing the viewer to “edit”.

I’m so confused. So the people that edited it have access to a real denial letter now? Isn’t that just part of the glitch? I really think the admissions representative was telling the truth when she said that it was totally irrelevant.
