@angelwings0137 How exactly do they choose who gets into which program? Do the most competitive students get into MITES?
YES I AGREE WITH YOU!! @solarsystem
And @CIRCUITDEBATER That is a good question. I wonder the same.
@CIRCUITDEBATER @minimango I’m pretty sure that they just choose from a variety of backgrounds. And I’m pretty sure they don’t only choose competitive students. Like I think someone on this thread said earlier that their friend had a 36 ACT and great grades and didn’t get into any of the programs. I would think it is based on how genuine you make your application, and they take that into account when selecting you for a specific program.
@solarsystem Yes I definitely agree with everything you said. UGH the essays are killing me…
@minimango SAME!! I really do not know what I want to do when I get older so that career goal essay is killing me
my neck. my back. my anxiety attack
it’s rough my dudes. keep pushing through guys!!!
Hey guys, I actually got an email from OEOP and they gave a tip telling us to refrain from talking about one specific program in your emails.
The official dates for this summer are:
MITES: June 10-July 21
E2@MIT: July 23- July 30
MOSTEC: August 1- August 5
Short term pain, long term gain! @ramengodzz
@ramengodzz OH LORD I JUST LAUGHED SO HARD I CRIED.
That my friend, was by far the best parody song lyric I’ve heard in a long time.
I just found out about the programs and decided to apply, I hope it’s not too late! I don’t know much about the MITES program (or the other 2) though, so not sure how these next 3 days are going to be for me.
Hey, everyone. I feel terribly uninventive as I say this, but as I was cruising along the TASP thread, I noticed that they had a google drive folder to share their essays. Who else thinks that’s a wonderful idea we should copy for our essays after we submit our applications and the window closes?
Yes I would love to do that. @arinuma
I’d be down with that, but It would have to super secure. Only people who share their essays should have access to the dropbox/google drive. Otherwise anyone can just copy/paste our essays and use them this year or next year. And if the dropbox is accessible by anyone, then if we try to recycle on of the MITES essay for our college apps, then it will look like we stole the essays because it would show up on the turnitin plagiarism checker.
Yeah that would be pretty cool, but as @CIRCUITDEBATER said, risking plagiarism for college/next year’s MITES might not be worth it…
Alright, we should make it private and only accessible if you ask for access. How does the turntin checker work?
So what we can do is this: I can create a sharable folder on Google Docs and only the people who email me at least one essay will have access. How does that sound or do you all have any other ideas?
Just another suggestion is that you could also take a screenshot of the essay instead of the actual text to avoid plagiarism checkers
So if we were to have a link i.e. www.docs.google.com/abcdefg and anyone with the link could access the document, and if that link were posted on College Confidential, then that would show up. But if we were to have it private and only shared with like a handful of people, then we good.
