Morrill Scholars Program 2015

I think it would be helpful having this :)

Does anyone know how many people receive this scholarship? and when we will know of the decision?

Decisions begin January 31st and end around March 31st, I believe. That’s what I’ve picked up from previous morrill scholar posts.

What are y’all’s angles for the essay?

@Texas2Ohio‌ My main topic was about my medical oddities and how it has impacted me and how I have promoted the medical field because of that. What was yours?

I wrote about how there’s so much hate in the world right now and that I could make the world a better place by bettering myself and my community first.

Mine was about the community I grew up in and how it has changed my views on diversity. I live in a diverse suburb area, which has been reported on by major news sources (I cited that in the essay).

I’m scared about this scholarship since I’m not top 10%…

My daughter was not top 10% of her class and she received the Morrill. It is more about your essay.

@OSUmom2018‌ what were your daughter’s stats/relationship with diversity? What did she write about in the essay?

Texas look for pm

I wrote mine about being Jewish and LGBTQ+, and the somewhat-unique experience that provides me, as well as the online activism I participate in for LGBTQ+ Jews. I also wrote about how in life I hope to work participate in real-life activism for either the LGBTQ+ or Jewish community.

Did anyone receive this scholarship yet? The first batch was sent out today

^ I believe it was sent out Friday of last week. A user on another thread got an a award! @Jalaquan‌ @Jay2631‌

@Texas2Ohio‌ Thank you!

@Jalaquan‌ Sorry for botheribg but I have a few questions. When did send in your application to OSU? For the Morrill Scholars did you send in any additional supplements other than selecting it on the common app and writing the essay? And congrats btw! :)>-

@Jay2631‌ , how did you know they sent out notifications today?

@Texas2Ohio I apologize, I meant to say December 12th. On the Morrill Scholars website, they provide the dates of which the notifications will be sent. According to the list, the next batch will be sent on the 23rd of this month. Good luck to everyone

So I just checked the Morrill Scholars website and I’m very confused… Their website had a link to a pdf to fill out AFTER submitting the common app but the only thing on the pdf was a spot to fill out your name and essay? I filled out the morrill essay on the common app already so was that all I needed to do or no?

@shelbsss8‌ I’m confused also. I emailed the MSP right now and I’ll let you know when I get a response

But for now I am guessing the pdf is for those who did not select it on the common app but would like to apply. Correct me if I’m wrong

@shelbsss8‌, that link is for people who submitted the common app and then realized they wanted to apply for MSP. As long as you wrote the essay in the common app, you should be good to go.

@Jay2631‌ No problem at all! I submitted my app on October 22nd and my status changed from “evaluation” to “admitted” around the 23rd I believe. I received notification that I was received the Morrill Excellence Scholarship(full tuition) last Friday around 6:00 in the evening. It came as a surprise because I didn’t think we would hear back until around January.

I didn’t send any additional supplements. I only selected it on the common app and wrote the essay! I have a question for you. Do you know that since I received the Excellence scholarship if that means I’m out of the running for the Distinction scholarship? I am grateful for the full tuition, but the Distinction would be amazing.

I wouldn’t be worried if you haven’t heard back yet. If it means anything, there was only one other person on twitter posted that they also received it. I know not all high school students get on twitter, but you see the point I’m trying to make lol.

@Jalaquan Thank you for sharing! I believe you don’t qualify for the Distinction if you recieved the Excellence. Anyone could correct me if I’m wrong.
