For future Distinction Scholars: They basically asked me to tell them about myself, why I deserved the award, who I thought was someone pushing for social justice, how I could be an ambassador for diversity, and some other broad questions. Very relaxed overall. It was a phone interview and concluded in 15 min like they said. There was also time for you to ask questions to them, as well. Good luck to everyone in the future!
When is the last date they notify students of this award? Also, I submitted the common app on November 1 but submitted my SAT scores later in the month… does this mean that I’m not eligible for this scholarship? I’ve already been accepted to the Honors Program…PLEASE HELP.
@Rambo98 March 28th is the last notification date, and you had to submit your app for priority consideration by Nov.30, so I would say that you’re good.
@mrice1519 Phew…Thanks a lot.
Also, if students have rejected their financial aid offers and choose to go somewhere else, will the scholarship offers be re-assigned to different students?
Has anyone gotten a call back for Distinction yet? The website says “by March 20,” so does that mean there won’t be any calls tomorrow?
Notifications have been sent out! I just got mine in the email
I was told yesterday that notifications would be sent out via telephone call around the 27th.
Do they respond to people who do get it differently than those who don’t?
She said that those who don’t will get a letter in the mail detailing the scholarship they did get-- either prominence or excellence
I agree with @SOsu2015, and my source is credible. Not sure what @FriendlyNerd888 is referring to, probably Excellence or Prominence? Don’t fret finalists. Remember that even without Distinction, you still have free tuition.
@SOsu2015 and @OneOf5 thanks for posting I am sure there were several of us that were wondering about the Distinction notification. You made us all feel better!
Someone in the Facebook page said that she was informed today that she received the distinction scholarship.
Do you know if all the calls went out yesterday or if they’re releasing throughout the week? @OneOf5
i got a call yesterday in the afternoon- I received the distinction scholarship. I live in Texas and am going to tour in April! Very excited
@SOsu2015 throughout the week is what they wrote, but did not expect them to work overtime on a Sunday :). Good that it has started. Can’t wait for this to be over so my daughter can move on. You might also want to join the Facebook group if you haven’t already. There’s more info on that side. Easy enough to search for the group. Good-luck!
@oneof5 we are in the same boat here…just want to know…thanks for posting.
@Oneof5 which Facebook page is it?
@OneOf5 thank you so much for all the information! It is wonderful to have some help through this process! I don’t believe I will be receiving the award as a girl from the same school I go to already got it and I can’t see them giving it to two people from the same school. I’m already in the FB group so I’ll be looking to see who all gets it! As you said, I’ll be grateful when all of this is finalized so I can move on! Best of luck to your daughter!
@rjpeck I’ll send you a PM for the FB. @SOsu2015 you are still special for being a finalist, don’t ever forget that. By the way, the exact wording on the email was “Phone calls will take place next week, and letters will be going out as well.” As for my daughter, I saw most of the finalists during that Distinction dinner (or at least spoke to the parents) and EVERYBODY is deserving. Hard to compete with that.
