Northeastern University Early Action / Early Decision for Fall 2023 Admission

Same! Applied to 16 schools, deferred to 4 and admitted to 4. Fortunately one of the admitted is one of his favorites. It’s still disappointing to get so many deferrals. Seems like more colleges are using deferrals these days.

Here is what Northeastern says (emphasis mine) from this page Early Decision Benefits | Undergraduate Admissions

Fall 2023 Early Decision applicants will be bound to their first-choice preference if they are admitted into that program. This is a new policy for this admissions cycle and will be true for preferences of any of our five enrollment options. ED applicants will not be bound to an enrollment program if they are admitted into a program that was not their first-choice preference—a non-binding decision would be issued. All applicants are asked for their program preferences in the institution specific section of the application; however, ED applicants will be sent a communication clarifying this policy and with the option to confirm or adjust their preference. The Early Decision Agreement will be applied for Boston enrollment in the instance of applicants who do not indicate a preferred program.

Does anyone know if there is a separate chat for NU.in?

Does not seem likely. Why post rejection when you’ve been deferred?

Well… my son texted me that everyone he knew at school had been rejected. I asked him, “rejected, or deferred?” He said actually they were deferred. So I think it is possible that some other kids on Reddit might make the same substitution.

For ED1 it was explained that it was only binding if you got your first choice. (My daughter picked Boston so if she would have gotten anything else it would have been non-binding).

Deferred

Can NU see student acceptance in umass amherst , and therefore reject the student because most likely ,student choose amherst with much lower in state tuition ?

No, they can not see other school’s acceptances.

Deferred, CS + Econ, 1560 SAT, 4.0uw, Boston only

My DD got $4,500 dean scholarship and $27,400 grant. Is this a good number? How about other people here?

Can I use Cal Grant for the Oakland campus?

No. But they could have developed statistical models to predict who will.

what is the difference between deferred and wait listed ?

It is a good question. I think you should ask them.

I think deferred means your decision will be put with the regular pool. Waiting list will come out after regular decision is announced.
