Accepted. 3.98uw gpa,1600SAT many ECs and leadership. Didn’t hear her talking about Scholarship though. Grateful.
I wonder which one has better chance , deferred or wait list ?
I guess it depends maybe. if the wait list is the first line , it’s probably better ??
Deferred means that your application has been moved to the regular decision pool and I think will be reevaluated with the regular decision applications. Schools don’t waitlist during the early cycles to my knowledge. If you are put on the waitlist as ur rd decision it’s like a waiting list to get into the school. They are completely different and neither one is better, maybe deferred cuz u get a second chance.
Honestly it feels like rejection not deferral, the portal status now shows “decided”
Deferred to Northeastern and accepted to University of Michigan. Crazy times.
For those deferred, keep positive. My daughter (fall 2022) was originally deferred to Northeastern, then accepted to Honors Business with significant merit scholarship.
Congratulations!!!
From an earlier post, it looks like you can request to transfer from Oakland after one year if the Oakland campus does not have your major or after two years if the Oakland campus does have your major.
Deferred means you still have a chance in regular cycle, while waitlist means you have been considered in regular cycle but still is not accepted andis put in waitlist until a spot available.
Thank you. Deferral doesn’t mean rejection at NU. It just drags out the wait and emotional weight on the students. Last year there were almost 91k applicants.
I am worried because there seems to be no rejection for this EA only deferral
Is that 4 years in London or 3 in London and one in Boston for a dual degree? I believe my son just received the same.
You cannot compare the two–they are apples and oranges. At this stage of admissions Deferred simply means they are postponing a decision until they can compare you with the rest of the candidates from the Regular Decision pool. Waitlist usually comes after Regular Decision is out in March–candidates are accepted, rejected or waitlisted. A common misconception is that the waitlist is ranked and those at the top of the waitlist will have higher chances. The reality is it really depends on the instution’s needs–e.g. if their Econ commits are lower than targeted by May 1 and if you’re on the waitlist as an Econ major your chances just went way up. Or if all the offers that went to Alaska candidates got declined and you’re an Alaska student on the waitlist, your number may get called.
My kid got acceptance from Northeastern London. The acceptance is signed by London school. They will receive 2 degrees it says from London School and From Boston school. Any idea if this is a good thing?
The deferrals put so much pressure on students last year. Many said “why do early applications, with all the pressure and focus, when in the end it is dragged out and we have to wait until end of March”. We counseled out second daughter this year about the possibility of having to wait until end of March for final decision.
Good question. I don’t think so as they are not currently on the eligible list, but I would ask the FA office, because maybe they can get Northeastern at Mills/Oakland on the list!
My daughter also got an acceptance from NE London. Have similar questions about possibly doing 1 year in London and then moving to Boston. How easy is it to do that… not sure. Fees seems lower for London.
In recent years, they have only been offering perhaps an additional $5k more than originally (if any) offered via merit and then they just change the name of the scholarship. Congrats on the accomplishments!
Looks like they based your need at around $32k. The NU Promise will mean that the $27,400 will increase by the same % as tuition each year so that is a good thing. The merit amount will not change.
A good question on the CalGrant and worth asking them to look into adding NU-Oakland to the list of eligible schools. Not sure if that would be stackable however or if it would replace either of these FA offerings.
Northeastern has not gone to its waitlist for several years. They were overenrolled.
My DD was also accepted to London. Giant surprise for all of us, as I didn’t even realize that was an option. It looks very interesting though and if you look at the academic schedule, their fall break will be Thanksgiving, which means they can still come home (if that’s affordable) and see their friends. The more I think about it, the more I am excited for her.
