Northeastern University Early Action / Early Decision for Fall 2023 Admission

It sounds like an interesting option of a 3-year full degree from UK with the option for a final year in Boston and a second degree from NU. Worth considering.

I agree. I love the option of two degrees. And they can study abroad in Boston for a semester or maybe year, which is nice as well.

My daughter would have totally jumped on the NU London option if it had fit with her major. Three years to a degree is a fantastic opportunity, and a huge cost savings too! Plus if I remember correctly, the campus is in a very vibrant part of London. That experience could be life changing for your D, and at the very least will make her stand out in the applicant pool when applying for jobs after graduation.

Haven’t been able to follow all these posts but how’s merit & financial aid looking? Is COA lining up with NPC? A friend said her daughter got in with Dean’s scholarship but it was only $2500. Do you think it was a typo and should be $25,000?

Another poster reported receiving a Dean’s scholarship for less than 2k, so I do not think that was a typo.

Deferred means your application will be reviewed again with the regular decision applicants. Waitlist means after all student decisions are finalized May 1, if there are open seats they notify off the waitlist. I don’t know how the waitlist is determined other than particular college within the school.

I was just reading about this online. UK degree after 3 years and then NU degree after 4. I’d say that’s a very good thing, especially if your student eventually wants to work internationally (Expat, etc).

I am pretty sure I told you this, but our FA was better than the pre-read. I believe that merit aid does not stance on top of financial aid. He got no merit aid which was surprising but I don’t think it mattered because it would have lowered the financial aid and been a wash.

yay

Got into NU London even tho they do not offer my major. Wonder if I can take generic Business the first year and then transfer to Boston to complete there?

Deferred means that you can roll your application into RD or ED2 and then they’ll make a decision. If wait listed you n eD to wait until after the mAy 1 deadline and see if there are any open spots. Then they’ll take people off the wait list.

Got deferred with the option to pick either ED2 or RD. This feels a little like arm twisting.

Deferred w/ Option for ED2 or RD (He’ll do RD)
Son’s (Colorado) stats were strong - 1490 SAT, 3.97UW, 4.7W; 15 AP Classes; strong letters of rec, good ECs, national level awards

I thought everyone deferred had ED2 or RD option.

Only ED2 if you are 1000000% sure that NU is your first choice. Otherwise, you risk attending a school that you don’t really love.

Ok, I am officially not paying attention to things like that email SNAFU on Saturday anymore!

D23 admitted to Boston campus with University Honors for Computer Science + Music Technology with 20k/year merit scholarship.

She did submit a portfolio of digital music compositions and her Common App essay also focused on her love of music composition and how she has used computers and tech as tools, so even though we didn’t have the chance to visit campus, the program fit might have been a sufficient show of interest.

97.6 UW / 102.7 W gpa, 8 APs (12 by graduation), 1510 SAT (submitted) and ECs, paid work, and volunteering heavily weighted towards both CS and music.

She’s over the moon!

If I go to Application Management this URL, it’s showing TWO applications. One was created on 1/19 for Spring 2024, which was NOT created by me. one original application for fall 2023. The spring application shows admitted and Fall application shows “awaiting”?

Nope, some got deferred to RD directly.

How do you request a pre-read? Is that possible before ED2?

Yes, that is what it looks like for my son as well who was admitted to NUin. I think it’s normal and just how they coded it in the system.
