Northeastern University Early Action / Early Decision for Fall 2023 Admission

Do you think there would be a significant enough amount of people switching to EDII after deferrals to impact somebody’s chances who applied EDII forever ago? I am very passionate about Northeastern but now I’m really scared that my chances are ruined now.

Absolutely agree. So many amazing kids w incredible stats. Was just trying to think of any reason they would not be accepted over someone else. My myth was completely false, as seen by the posts after. Not trying to offend AT ALL. My daughter was deferred by two of her favorite schools so I absolutely understand the frustration.

For any uni admissions team, its all about the yield. Number of people who joined/number of people accepted. The ultimate goal is to get a higher yield. That is what drives the entire process.
Its all about the numbers.
What are the chances of the student actually showing up at the university. A 1560 SAT student more than likely will get through other universities and hence chances of him joining are lesser.

Deferred in NEU seems to be either an exercise in cynical yield management or if the student needs to be considered in RD because their quals are not fully complete for acceptance level yet and mid-year grades are needed. Based on our student and few others here, we know there is a primary yield management objective to defer some top students lest they are using NEU as safety and will most likely matriculate at T20.

My son’s stats 1520 SAT (800 math) 8 APs (5s) 4.0 GPA Deferred. Asked to do some additional steps to be conisdered.

Actually I am happy this happened.
A debt free CS degree from the top state school vs same degree from NU with a parent plus loan that takes years to pay off. I will stick with the former.

We are not even going to bother with the additional steps.

may I ask what additional steps?

I don’t know we did’t bother to click on the link.

Same here. Do you think the NMerit scholarship is larger than the dean’s scholarship? I’m not sure The NM scholarship I understand it’s not guaranteed, if they don’t get it, can they stay with the Deans scholarship? The National merit is confusing, you designate the schools as your first cover by April 2, but you know know if you get the scholarship until May.
Anyone got an invitation for Stamps Scholarship?

I heard the earlier ED acceptance rate is 50% and now at EA, the acceptance rate went down to 30% ? Where can we see stat of ED vs EA acceptance rate for this year ?

I was deferred, and I had two jobs as ECs, including one that was actually a co-op situation (working as a lube tech as an auto voc-tech kid).

Same with my son. To be honest I was expecting deferrals from both Michigan and Northeastern since he’d already been deferred from 3 other selective colleges. So Michigan was a nice surprise. And after hearing of so many others being deferred by Purdue, he’s beginning to appreciate his acceptance there. Crazy times for sure.

My DD never received any email from Northeastern, but found out about admission thru the portal. Did everyone receive the email to claim their account?

She was admitted to the Oakland campus but still did not receive any single email.

My son received the email over an hour after decision was available on portal. Also, the email went to his spam folder.

And opposite for my daughter. Postponed at Michigan. Accepted at Northeastern. So many qualified candidates. It’s tough, for sure. Congrats on the Michigan acceptance!

You are correct, my mistake!
She is not satisfied as the major she applied to is not offered in London.
So we have a hard NO…

At least last year the NMF deal was that if you designated them as your first choice then your merit scholarship was “advanced” up to the next level dollar amount. If you were at the highest level dollar amount (last year this was the $35k/yr honors scholarship) then you got an additional $5k per year merit scholarship. My daughter shared that a friend had a $28k/yr scholarship and then with NMF got bumped to the $35k/yr level.
Suspect the merit dollar amounts are different this year.

DS was deferred. NU is his first choice but we didn’t apply ED 1 because we weren’t sure we would get any aid. We’re not eligible for need-based financial aid but would need merit aid to make NU possible from a financial standpoint. Can you apply ED 2 and back out if accepted for financial reasons, even if the estimated tuition calculator says you don’t have financial need?
