NU will calculate your need based on the fafsa/css info you provided. They will make a combo of merit/aid to meet this. Merit is offered by the admissions dept, FA gives the rest. If you have questions, call FA.
Def wait to learn more from FA. They may add a bit more to your package if you post them as your top choice. See the national scholarship info attached.
NU did not make a mistake on fall 2021ā¦ they followed their normal process but has an incredibly high yield for Boston and NUIN etc. NU and all campuses in Boston are permitted by the city and have to manage their yield. Therefore, in fall, 2022 they had to decrease their enrollment and closely manage their yield, which they they did successfully. That overenrollment has had major housing and classroom impacts and they are righting that course. This happened in a few popular schools post covid. Purdue had even greater impacts from a super high yield as I recall.
The published rate is what is required by the CDS for all schools. It is just how the American universities are tracked.
Any word about ED2 decision date?
My S was deferred by NEU and Villanova;
Engineering
So far accepted to Drexel, U of Cincinnati, RPI, UVM, Miami U at Ohio and waiting on RIT, U of Rochester, Syracuse.
U of Cincinnati was actually the first University to start Coop program; I didnāt know much about it but college counselor encouraged as more affordable. I am hoping he might end up there as so much more affordable and pretty neat city. I love Philly and Boston; and am a New Yorker living in VT so all upstate schools will open up lots of opportunities in NYC;
I would be psyched if S27 got spot abroad even though he isnāt sure if was open to this.
There are a lot of options for Coops and an amazing education. I am confident my son will do fine where ever he ends up; and definitely more than a few options.
Does anyone know when in February n.u.in locations r released? Or like when they have been announced in the past?
The email said āmid-Februaryā for that info.
But if you look at the admitted student events you can register for (through the portal) there is also a āWelcome to the NU in programā event that you can sign up for, on Wednesday, February 8. They may talk about locations at that event.
This interactive session, designed for students admitted to The N.U.in Program for Fall 2023, will feature staff from The N.U.in Program and The Office of Undergraduate Admissions. Join us for an in-depth look at the student experience in the program, life at Northeastern, and more details on next steps. There will be time for Q+A, so please bring any questions you have!
I did the one that was after ed and I think it was the same. They didnāt talk about locations for the most part.
My daughter applied to Cincinnati last-minute bc of the co-ops. Did you visit? Weāve never been to the city. Still waiting for a decision.
True. Apart from yield, its also about getting more students to their other campuses. There are other motives at play too.
Philly is awesome!
Indeed, we do get carried away in the herd mentality ourselves. How does Penn State CS compare to RIT or Northeastern?
You would have to research outcomes for CS majors at those schools. I know nothing about CS at Northeastern. Anecdotally one of my closest friends has a son who just graduated Penn State CS and he had an excellent post-graduation job lined up with an employer who will pay for his masters degree since the summer after his junior year. We also toured RIT and were impressed with the co-ops. My daughter intends to be an art/physics major but I do remember the tour guide stating that some CS majors were making $50+/hour during their co-ops. That said Iām sure there are other CS majors at Penn State and RIT who didnāt have those great opportunities. Just like any school, itās what the student puts into it that matters most.
My oldest daughter went to school in Philly and absolutely loved it!!
My DD was Deferred for Fall 2023. This is her top school and was so hopeful to get in. She accepted the Regular Decision deferment, but we are just worried that she will not get a good merit scholarship because she is not in early action. We are considering uploading her MP1 Report Card to the portal, as well as writing a letter. What has been your experience with NEU Deferment process? Is there a good chance that she will get in with a scholarship?
I can only speak to one case I am aware of but my friendās daughter was deferred from EA last year and was accepted with a $25K scholarship so there is some hope.
Does anyone know if ED2 is coming out today or soon?
