Northeastern University Early Action / Early Decision for Fall 2023 Admission

Well last year it was 2/2 and the website still said by March 1st so I’m wondering if the trend will be the same. I believe someone called the admissions office and they said by 2/15 so I’m just eager to know the exact date lol

Many CS and Engineering coop students at NU receive $45-50k for 6 mo. I know many of my Ds friend easily made that, received corporate housing on top (in Silicon Valley) and some even got a shared company car to use! These that I know of first hand were in at least 2019 pre covid, so I am not sure what has changed now. These were for top students, first and second coops – Google, Tesla, SpaceX, Intel, Apple, etc.

Context matters. That was during the peak times of CS. Now most places are laying off people.

My husband has hired and supervised lots of interns / co-op students (at a big name bay area company). With all the recent layoffs, he has advised S23 not to expect or depend on the same kind of big salaries and extra perks that interns have been getting in previous years. Co-op placements will continue to be valuable for our kids’ careers, but he feels they won’t necessarily be as lucrative or luxurious, and we shouldn’t expect the salaries earned during co-op terms to make much of a dent in total college cost over the course of the degree. That’s just his opinion though.

Personally I’m just hoping that these internships help these kids get jobs once they have graduated! It’s hard getting a first job without real work experience.

Does Northeastern send out an admission package with cool merch?

Of course, that is why I noted the timeframe pre covid in 2019. Many coops did not happen or were fully remote in early COVID, and some are having downturns now and may likely for a cycle or two… but different industries rebound and new changes occur.

Totally agree… and for many coops, they don’t pay more than enough to make ends meet. For some fields, the coops are unpaid, but the experience is invaluable. My older D was CSSH and had amazing coops, but were unpaid (one global coop provided housing and NU provides a scholarship to assist with global coops.) (She had paid coop offers but turned those down for the opportunities she took.) However, she was totally employable and had a couple of great offers upon graduation with folks amazed at all she had done by the time she was 23. Younger D in CAMD made around $22 in each coop and got a great job upon graduation and could negotiate a higher salary because she had a solid year plus under her belt. This was enough to cover her living expenses and save a little for travel during coop times, but certainly not enough to cover future tuition etc. That was not our goal for coops and NU however.

Compared to their peers who did not have coop and coop coaching, and all that work experience gained, they were miles ahead in confidence, in resume, in interview skills, etc.

Hi everyone! My son was admitted early action to the Boston campus. He’s thrilled! However, we were wondering if someone could help us interpret this sentence in today’s email called “What to expect next”: “Your admission to our Boston campus is binding. An enrollment deposit is required and is due by May 1, 2023”. Does this mean that he has to go to Boston if/when he enrolls, or is this a mistake indicating that his application was binding ED rather than EA? He definitely wants to assess all his options before he decides, which is why he chose EA. Thank you for the guidance!

I think what they are saying is that if he chooses NU he must go to the Boston campus and not London or Oakland. But you can call admissions to confirm.

Update: she got into the honors program, so there is merit based scholarship for her, generous amount. Appreciate !

If you were deferred, you should have received this email tonight. Good luck everyone!

Greetings from Northeastern! We are writing to share a copy of a communication which will be sent to deferred applicants this evening.

Students who were deferred at Early Action have the opportunity to opt-in for consideration at Early Decision II or Regular Decision, or withdraw their application.

We encourage your family to discuss these options together before your student confirms their decision, as Early Decision II applicants may receive a binding admissions decision to one of our enrollment opportunities. While we consider students’ responses from their initial application, all students are considered for all avenues for admission.

We will continue to share information regarding the deferred applicant process over the coming days.

Dear Students,

Thank you for your application to Northeastern University.

We are writing to remind you that the deadline to confirm your interest in either deferring your application to a later round or withdrawing it from consideration is February 6, 2023. If you’ve already submitted your response and have requested to change it, you may do so through the same form linked below.

You have until 11:59 p.m. EST on February 6, 2023 to submit your final decision through this form. After the deadline this form will become inactive—no further changes will be allowed.

We’ve received a number of requests from applicants who wish to review their deferred decision letter. A copy of this letter may be viewed here, along with our deferred student FAQ.

Should you choose to defer your application to a later round, you may submit a letter of interest, mid-year grades, and/or an updated résumé. Mid-year grades should be added to your Common Application or Coalition Application record by a school official. All other documents should be uploaded directly to your Application Status Check with a material type of “Deferred New Information”. Please ensure documents are provided in the next week.

Finally, please note that students who choose to move to Early Decision II will be required submit their Early Decision agreement via the Application Status Check once it becomes available.

Sincerely,

The Office of Undergraduate Admissions

Just curious, did most people who were deferred specify boston only?

Yes we did; lovely campus, neat architecture and feel; love the old outdoor stadium and enjoyed dinner in artsy downtown area; may go back for bearcat day for admitted students.

Where did you find information for bearcat day? Thanks.

Did he just receive the acceptance in the last few days? If he received it a few weeks ago, that was the ED round. Call admissions and ask for clarification.

Sounds like their system has him flagged as an ED1 applicant. I’d call admissions.

Considering that they are giving the deferred EA kids until midnight on Feb 6th to switch to ED2, it’s safe to assume ED2 decisions will not be released until at least a week after that … unless of course they have software (not humans) making admissions decisions … which actually seems entirely possible at this point.
