On the bright side, the waitlist stats are pretty encouraging (except 05-06). :)

Yikes, I can’t imagine getting waitlisted four times (knock on wood, I have 3 decisions left).

I’ve just gotted waitlisted by NU and UChicago so far. I don’t think I want to get on NU’s waitlist though, as of yet.

I’m not making any decisions yet, though. Since both of my waitlists are unranked, I’m waiting for all my decisions and aid before making the decision to get on or off.

weird i got flatout rejected by u of chicago but accepted into NU… seems like the pattern is waitlist for both or rejected altogether… this really is a crapshoot :(

I agree, i was rejected by both UChicago and Northwestern. But I have friends who were accepted to UChicago but not to Northwestern. It’s either you get in one, or rejected by both.

I got waitlisted too! If I get rejected at the three Ivies I applied to then I’m gonna accept WUSTL’s offer of admission and take a spot on Northwestern’s waitlist… > <

The bad thing is… what if I got waitlisted at, say, UPenn? Can I take both spots on UPenn and NW’s waitlists? But I heard that if you want to sound convincing to the schools you need to insist that you’ll attend their school if they take you off the waitlist… So what to do if UPenn and NW both took me off their waitlist? I’d feel I was a jerk to reject one of their offers.

I’m hating this whole college admissions process…

You guys can have another spot–I got in, but I got in to Duke too and I’d go there first… barring any unlikely development at 5 PM today.

After being rejected by Penn (really disappointed about that one) and Harvard (knew this one was coming), I think I’m going to take the spot on the wait list. I haven’t visited Northwestern yet, so I’ll do that at the end of the month to see what it’s like. I’ll also stop by the admissions office to let them know of my continued interest. Also going to visit Michigan (where I’ve already gotten in), and check that school out. Its pretty much down to these two.

does the waitlist pertain to separate schools (bienen, wcas, medill)?

Hey everyone! I got waitlisted too.
NU is my top choice (still).
Do you guys think they’ll give financial aid to waitlisted people if they get in?

Definitely. Yes, you’ll get financial aid still (and I’m guessing one that’s very close to what it would’ve looked like had you gotten in).

do you guys know if waitlist is need-aware?

also how soon after may 1 do waitlist people get offered? and how much time do you have to accept the deal?

Accepted by Wash U and waitlisted by NU…sigh…Really hope it’s the other way around…
I’m gonna send my deposit to Wash U while waiting for NU to hopefully take me off of their waitlist.

I think I just realized how much I love Northwestern…
I chased the mailman around my neighborhood with my waitlist response letter because I missed him by five minutes!

Something in me was saying no, this can’t wait until tomorrow. Do it now.

Chasing my dream, literally.

^ lol
How long was your letter? I’m write wait-list letters too, and I can’t find enough material to make quite make it to a full page.
Ugh, just when I thought college stuff is done, I have more wait-list letters to write

How much will a wait-list letter actually help for Northwestern specifically? I heard only academic updates are encouraged

mouse9020, you’ll be fine at WashU. It’s an excellent school. In fact, many people choose it over NU.

I wrote about a page, short and sweet, no page flipping required.

I looked into last year’s waitlist threads and found that those who send updates are more successful at getting off the waitlist. I was accepted at Cornell yesterday so I’m using that and the fact that I’m a full fare student to hopefully cajol the adcoms in my favor. I won’t be sending any more letters–just a grade update/call from my counselor.

I sent back the card without a letter. I’m going to do a separate letter.

Is this a faux pas?

^ better not be. I’m going the same thing.

But I don’t think you’re really supposed to send a letter with it. Keeping in mind that it’s still just a POSTCARD, the purpose of it should be to be sent via snailmail as a stand-alone. But I’m sending a letter too. Possibly via email because that’s what my guidance counselor suggested.
